Thank you for having the courage to post that. Two months ago the cowardly US Secretary of State John Kerry-Heinz tried to justify the murders by stating "There was a sort of particularized focus and perhaps even a legitimacy in terms of–not a legitimacy, but a rationale that you could attach yourself to somehow and say, okay, they’re really angry because of this and that."

Last night a Muslim man ambushed a Philadelphia police officer, firing 13 shots at him "in the name of Islam". He told police he had pledged allegiance to the Islamic State. Our new Mayor quickly assured us it has "nothing to do with being a Muslim or the Islamic faith".

Let's all sing along now:

"And so this is ISIS
And what have they done
In San Bernadino
And at Le Bataclan.

And so this is ISIS
But don't be afraid
We'll fight global warming
Until the caliphate fades.

War is over if they say so......."

How did global warming come into it?

Our President has taught us that global warming is the greatest threat we face and that it is also one of the root causes of Islamic terrorism.

Even before the Hebdo murders, Dave Sim had shifted his support for First Amendment speech rights, which is an American rather than French civil liberties protection. He said in a CerebusTV segment that since his religious conversion, he was "no longer a First Amendment absolutist."

In any case, the situation in France is not now one of free speech being tolerated that is offensive to majorities, as free speech activist and journalist Glenn Greenwald writes here:

Cartoonist Joe Sacco's take:

Culpa, I infer a sarcastic tone and a disagreement with those claims. Correct?

CTV, I'm interested in what Dave's viewpoint changed to. Is there a link or quotation you can supply? Thanks!

From this blog:

From CerebusTV #85:

"In response to an American cartoonist being arrested at the Canadian border for having what is alleged to be Manga child pornography on his laptop computer Dave Sim then offers his person take as a reformed First Amendment Absolutist, now a First Amendment Purist."

What he said in the episode goes into much more detail than either of the above. He also had more to say in our faxed discussions, which remain n the CerebusTV Archive.
