My Visit To Escape Pod Comics

302 Main Street, Huntington, NY 11743

MICHAEL RAGIEL:
On Friday, September 29 I was able to visit Escape Pod Comics comics store for the first time. If it wasn't for Dave or Gerhard mentioning the store I would have never even thought about coming here. It also happened to be by chance. We live in Pennsylvania. My wife and I were going to a wedding in Huntington, Long Island, New York.

It was discussed that she would go shopping and I would go visit. It worked out perfectly. It was about 20 minutes from the hotel we were staying. When I arrived at the shop, I took a few photos outside and went in. I recognized Menachem immediately. I flubbed my introduction trying to explain who I was and why I came. I think he sorta recognized me. If you go to Gerhard's Blog and search at the end of April/May when Gerhard visited Escape Pod Comics and his trip to the East Coast Comic Con, I was the one with a beard with Gerhard.

The store is small and we walked around a couple of times focusing on the Cerebus wall. Even though the store is small, it is super packed and has something for everyone. Even children. It was hard for me to focus on everything. Menachem is extremely knowledgeable on all things comics, books of comics, creators of comics and even comic book stores. He knew about some of the comic book stores where I'm from in Pennsylvania.

Despite our pleasant and rapid conversations and me possibly interrupting Menachem constantly. Sorry Menachem. I don't always get a chance to speak with someone about Dave/Gerhard/Cerebus. Menachem did give me a brief history how Dave came became involved with Escape Pod comics.

I couldn't stay as long as I would have like, but I am grateful that I did have the opportunity to go. If anybody does get a chance to go, do it. You won’t be disappointed. There really is something for everyone.

Does your local comics store go that 'extra mile' to support Cerebus?

I second Michael - if you are nearby, make a stop at Escape Pod Comics. If not for the excellent selection of comics, but for the Cerebus wall. Menachem has a vast knowledge of comics, so if you let him know what you've enjoyed in the past, he'll find you something you'll enjoy going forward.

Over the past few months I've been buying from Escape Pod Comics via mail order...I can't express enough how happy I've been as a customer. I've only spoken to Menachem via Facebook Messenger, but he's always been incredibly polite and helpful. My local stores could take a lesson or several from him.

"Incredibly polite and helpful"? A New Yahka?!? (JK)

Actually, I second that emotion: I ordered the digitally remastered edition of High Society from Escape Pod when my LCBS couldn't get it, for some weird reason. It arrived damaged. I called the store and Menachem answered. I told him what the damage was and he said that he would send out another copy the next day and that he would personally package it. It arrived a few days later in USPS-proof packaging, and in pristine condition. I told him that I would send back the damaged copy and he said that I didn't need to.

Fantastic customer service and an extremely nice guy. (Feel free to use that blurb in your advertising, Menachem.)

Also, if anyone is interested, Menachem has older Cerebus Archive's at his shop. If anyone remembers, Dave had/has personalized Archives for shop owners if they purchased 5 Cerebus Archives. It would be kinda cool to have a personalized Escape Pod Comics Cerebus Archive. Not sure what he has in stock, just call or email him.

Hey, I can spot my Cerebus drawing on that wall! I am absurdly pleased by this.
