Tomorrow is Mother's Day (she'd like a Postcard From Hell, don't you think?)

Hi, Everybody!

If you got a couple of extra bucks and want to do a fellow Cerebus fan a solid, frequent commentator Mike Battaglia has a go fund me here.

The Green Dante/Green Virgil cover auction is still at $1277.00 US Dollars from: 高伯乐 (Gao BoLe)! If you want in on this action, just comment on this post, or e-mail momentofcerebus@gmail.com

Friend to the Blog, and the guy who becomes more powerful if you strike him down thanks to the Genesis Project: Steve Peters has another Kickstarter going. (I have a joke in one panel.)

The remastered Volume 1 is available digitally for $9.99.

Well looky here, the second Postcard From Hell Kickstarter is up. (The campaign video includes more video of Dave inking the Green Dante/Green Virgil cover, including inking Cerebus!) Won't you help keep the CiH? team employed and off the streets?

Hmm. Cerebus' mum. I think we may have seen her face once (a few times? As Missy? No, Missy was Nurse.), but IIRC, never did we see Cerebus' dad.

As it usually goes in fractured family stories, Mum tried to keep the peace, even as Dad and Junior were going at it.

I seem to remember Dave remembering (and writing about it) that his father, Ken, told Dave that he was too smart for his own good. Usually around the table, at which all family members would assemble (mandatory) and agree.

Been there, heard that, got the original Stars Wars t-shirt.

Dave *was* and has been, for a long time, too smart for his own good.

I think that he has joined the rather exclusive club, to which my father repeatedly assigned me. Or, perhaps, he founded it. Dunno; gotta check the records.

Sorry, Dave. That's just me, keepin' it real.

Thanks, Jeff, for that laugh. "Keepin' it real," -- hee hee hee!

The problem has never been that Dave isn't smart. It's that he doesn't know how to think. He doesn't know how logic and evidence work, his most frequent tactics are bald assertion ("it's self-evident"), gossip ("she enjoyed spanking"), and strawmen ("feminists say a doctor ..."). Couple that with his half-remembered 1970s-era popular science, and his misreadings of the Bible to comport with his prejudices. His "arguments" are largely self-justifications for his emotional reactions. That said, he can be pretty clever within his (considerable) limitations.

Cerebus remains worth of study by cartoonists and comics historians. As Allen Rubinstein said, "Cerebus contains some of the all-time best and some of the all-time worst comics I’ve ever read".

Hmm. For once, Damian, I lend some measured credence to what you wrote. An autodidact can, indeed become smart, intelligent, knowledgeable and, possibly, wise. But good, experienced teachers help a student to learn how to filter (and, eventually, apply) their "book-learnin'. In Dave's case, I think that it was his intense study of the comics field, as well as continued reading about many different disciplines, that made him smart and wise. Not to mention his many discussions with comic-book greats and his daily readings of the Qoran, the Torah, and most of the rest of the Bible.

Denigrate as you will; it is your wont. But Dave is a smart guy who also is a deep thinker.

Now I'm curious: How is Dave misreading the Bible?

Eddie K.: Over a year in, and now you're curious? Well, if you are interested, you can try comparing Dave's logorrhea with, y'know, actual Biblical scholarship such as is available at several bookstores (both general-audience and religious) in our city. Good luck!
