Wilf Jenkins Week!: That time Dave made Wilf punch him...

Hi, Everybody!

WILF JENKINS WEEK JUST KEEPS ON TRUCKIN'!!!

In case you missed yesterday's post, Wilf Jenkins the lawyer for Aardvark/Vanaheim from 1982 to 2014, received comp copies of every book Aardvark/Vanaheim published, and saved them all. Now, he (and Dave Sim) have signed all the books and they are being sold through Looking For Heroes, for $10 (CAD) plus $4 dollars shipping to Canada and $5 dollars shipping to the USA. All the money goes to the Food Bank of the Waterloo Region.

***UPDATE: the books haven't been processed by Looking For Heroes yet, so they aren't available for purchase, but soon. As soon as I hear they're ready, I'll let you know.***

Everything in the Wilf Jenkins Collection will have a Certificate of Authenticity:

Anyway, one of the things Dave sent me for Wilf Jenkins Week is a Secret from the Archive:
That strip is here.

And the out takes are here:

See, the title doesn't lie... And remember, Dave PAID Wilf to do this... (them hours were all billable...)

Okay, Wilf and I are doing Please Hold For Wilf Jenkins, so if you have a question for Mr. Jenkins that you'd like me to ask him, email momentofcerebus@gmail.com. Or leave a stupid comment here. Whatever. (You guys ARE aware that I collate the questions, and send them to Wilf (or Dave for Please Hold For Dave Sim,) beforehand, so idiotic questions/comments can be weeded out...)

Tomorrow: Wilf Jenkins Week continues as Oliver rounds up all the mentions of Wilf Jenkins around the internet!
________________________________
The latest Cerebus in Hell? one-shot: Spider-Whore available to order wherever those kinds of things are sold.

The Amicable Spider-Vark is in stores, which is the lead in to Spider-Whore, which was SUPPOSED to be the immediate sequel, but Batvark: PENIS ended up taking Spider-Whore's slot when COVID-19 threw everything up into the air.

Cerebus masks and whatnots with all the money going to Dave. New product will be added to the store when I get around to it.

If you missed the Kickstarter for Dave and Carson Grubaugh's You Don't Know Jack, well you're kinda F'ed in the A... The Indiegogo is over, but the books are:
Marquis informed Sean and I today that they had an issue with their press, so our books will now be shipping to me on Sept 18th rather than Sept 11th. I am sure this still leaves plenty of time to get all of the books to everyone before the election, which is my target "latest-date" for delivery.
If you missed the Waverly Press Kickstarter for the Remastered Cerebus #1, limited overflow of the rewards are available at cerebusoverload.com
There were extras of the Platinum cover, so there are a 100 signed and numbered copies available for $50. But:

This weekend there is a 30% sitewide sale. The discount code is CEREBUS30 (Good through Sunday at Midnight). Also, the books have arrived and are being packed and shipped as I type and you read (unless you're reading this in a few months, in which case: WHY?)

And Signed copies of Vark Wars: Walt's Empire Strikes Back (Signed by Dave, Signed by Dave and me, Signed by me after I scribble out Dave's name, Pretty much available Signed only...)

Next Time: Oliver Simonsen and the Tweeters (Say, what was the name of their first Hit record?)

Hi, Wilf! Brian West here. Thank you and Matt for taking my question. How did you become Aardvark-Vanaheim’s attorney?

If this has been answered already just point it out:

Hi Wilf,

Hope these aren't too personal, though I'm sure Matt will cut them out if so:

1) Have you read any of Cerebus, if so what did you think?

2) I realize it was a job but did you find any particular joy or satisfaction in having a comic book writer/artist/self-publisher as a client? Something different from your regular clientele. If so, could you expound a bit on that?

3) Is there anything interesting that you can share, some anecdote about Dave and/or Cerebus, something none of us here would ever think to ask?

Thank you for taking the time to answer my questions and I hope you are enjoying your retirement.

A Fake Name

Admire Wilf's humility in not insisting that QC go after everyreference to his name (if it was me, I'd be telling Starbucks baristas to stick WILF JENKINS QC TO YOU on my cup) :) ;)

No questions for Wilf unless he knows someone who can get me out of this Turkish prison

I do have one for....

Dave:

Did you ever have a chance to meet fellow Canadian cartoonist Lynn Johnson who wrote & drew the newspaper strip "For Better or For Worse"? The reason I'm asking is I've noticed both of you have a similar ability to draw body language in a small space that's so visual & can convey so much emotion. It's wonderful.

Matt:

Is it possible to release a podcast version of the "Please Hold for Dave Sim" YouTube videos? It's frustrating trying to click a dozen (or more) videos) to follow a conversation

I second that about the YouTube vids. It gets pretty tedious sorting through them. Interesting content though.

This has probably already been asked, but if not - QUESTION FOR MR. JENKINS THE BARRISTER: Did Marvel actually file a lawsuit regarding Wolveroach? At the time, Wolverine was (and still is) one of the most popular and marketable characters in all of comics. Dave sort of just put him on the cover of three issues in a row (#54 - 56). Love Dave and Cerebus , but even I think that’s really pushing the whole parody/fair use/intellectual property (or whatever the lawyers call it) envelope. I imagine that was a time you really earned your salary (or “retainer” or whatever the lawyers call it). Thanks for your time.

Actually Brian, Glen wants the OLD PHFDSs uploaded as podcasts. I'm into 2019 for ripping the Audio from the Video.

So, maybe later today...

I take your meaning there, Matt. Thank you for correcting me here.

You've reminded me of an old friend who used to work at the Houses of Parliament here in London. She took us for an after-hours tour soon after getting the job, using her new "Officer of the House" pass to get us into all the various chambers past the security guys and cops.

When one of the guards stopped us for a second, she flashed her pass and said, "It's OK - I'm an officer of the House", and then chuckled in self-reproach at how often she'd been saying that in the past few days and how much she loved doing so. I told her I'd have been saying it every ten minutes if it was me - sometimes to strangers in the street.
