It's not really until Minds that Dave and Ger leap forward again, so after a while, you can only find so many ways to say "the art looks really good in this volume."Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06201770039225794681noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2837001751311078781.post-81795621461013707262016-06-29T17:44:25.883-05:002016-06-29T17:44:25.883-05:00This comment has been removed by the author.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06201770039225794681noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2837001751311078781.post-14411958204763348092016-06-28T06:57:01.384-05:002016-06-28T06:57:01.384-05:00That said, I've always been on the fence with ...That said, I've always been on the fence with the voiceovers. I'm particularly fond of Badlands, The Thin Red Line, The New World, and The Tree of Life. The latter reminds me somewhat of the cosmogony of Cerebus 289/290 (if I remember the number correctly). Ready-to-hand perception vs. Ready-at-hand (if I remember the terms correctly. Been driving all day so memory is shot) and then Merleau Ponty's embedded conceptions of perception. I call them Use-Value/Iconic, Flat Screen and Embodied to make it easier for the students.

He did claim the Futurama guy is half based on him. Also, apparently the film director Terrence Malick (sp?) was a top student of Dreyfus, focusing on Heidegger's notion of "worlds." Malick quit doing philosophy because he felt that film made the arguments in a way prose could not. He just had a film come out, Knight of Wands (or some knight out of the tarot deck). Heidegger's infernally Teutonic prose is such a pain. (Infernal, get it? Heh. Pat's self on back.) I understand he's also the inspiration for Hubert J. Farnsworth from Futurama.
