Concerning one reason I came down off the mountain again (And, it's more like this musical cue Matt https://youtu.be/EFt_HJ1Fr7I), is that I knew you CIH? creators are kind of like diamonds formed out of coal, when it comes to how Dave has been a big supporter of self-publishing, and helped form much of its success at one time or the other in the last 40 years.
Therefore, if one wants to know what the future holds for it, I already see all of you are doing what will become the new way of doing comics after this virus causes the stock market to crash, Diamond not to reopen, comic stores to close, and the internet to go out of business for most of us. It will be like all of you are doing off the fly. The crisis has even helped you do it quicker. Soon, the medium will return to where it began out of houses and mailed to one's door.
It says in scriptures that God would finish his house of Israel in one day. Impossible some said. How can you raise a house in a day? Like the Amish. The last thing lifted up is a flag on a pole. Likewise, Jesus was lifted up on the cross and that spiritual house was finished in a day. Reminds me of Dr. Carol Marcus in Star Trek 2, when Admiral Kirk asks her concerning the Genesis Cave, "You did all this in a day?" And, she said, "Can I cook or can't I?" Jesus sure does know how to do a living graphic novel, with a beginning and end.
Similarly, what does anyone think about Larry Hama making it to G.I. Joe #300? He's at #275 right now and otherwise would've made it, but the virus has put a stop to that. Yet, like some creators are moving to online publishing or mailing out their works by mail themselves, and not through Diamond or such, Larry could make it or pass 300 issues.
I'm not comparing it to how Dave did 300 issues writing and drawing it, and how he has the Guinness Book of World Records for longest back to back issues by the same creative team. But, if Dave at all thought Todd McFarlane reaching 300 issues on Spawn was worth mentioning, I think he'd think more so of Larry who has written almost all of his issues even though there was a 15 year gap in it.
That was because the sales got too (I almost left an "o" out Matt. You would've gotten me wouldn't you?) small and Marvel cancelled it. GI Joe is owned and so he couldn't keep doing it on his own. He could've made up a similar spin off so to speak, and had it self published and kept doing it no matter if it sold. Now, with GI Joe being with the people that Dave worked with, it seems the same problem.
I don't think Erik Larsen will make it now with Savage Dragon, which is also I think at #275. Yet, he has written and drawn all of them. Yet, he wouldn't break Dave's record would he if he went past 300 issues, because his haven't been consistent, right?
If Dave considered McFarlane worth mentioning, what about others in that vein? How long was Denny O'Neill involved with Batman in some way? Is there anyone else that nears or passes that 300 issue involvement? Denny pretty much controlled the direction of Batman more so than McFarlane did with Spawn I'd say. McFarlane pretty much hasn't had anything to do with Spawn really does he, except for signing off on each new issue. I've heard stories about Denny having directly coming up with or putting a stop to many numerous Batman stories and such, way after he'd had an even direct influence on them himself.
Back to my point, what does anyone here think about our future concerning this virus? I just checked out where China was 2 months ago, and they were like total lock down. Stores were closed. Food was delivered by the government to near your neighborhood or such. Anyone violating the stay home order was punished.
Here it looks like the people in Exodus, when they threw a party and Moses got mad and threw the commandments down and broke them. Our government's too scared to crack down because they know the gangs have more power. I mean, eventually they'll have to act and they'll just use some tanks on the gangs and that will be that for awhile.
But, I live in the hood and people want to pretend this will be over by next week and they'll be back to work. That's not going to happen. This is going to be like this until at least the beginning of June before the stay home ban is lifted. I'm not allowed to leave the state. In India they're using the rod for punishment for people not staying at home. Here, they keep saying please stay home.
People are upset now they've been asked nicely and they're anxious. What will they do when it gets worse before it gets better? When I say all these things will happen, I mean the fallout after the virus has gone away. This has tipped the scales too much. One can think that everything will be back to normal in two weeks, and that's good faith. But, I'm saying, even Dave is saying that everyone needs to get their houses in order with God.
Matt, David, and whoever else, yes, I like humor and especially in times like these, but this is a wake up call and we need to be humbled and thankful that we're going to make it, if we have our refuge in Christ.
Thanks for this latest Cerebus #1 CIH? Team. At least somebody still has a sense of humor during this pandemic. Also, it's neat to see The Amicable Spider-Vark in the flesh.
Maybe there's a Batwoman parody in the making here. Combine the Whore of Babylon with the mythic "Wuhan Bat" and then Presto! You have WHORES OF PREY #1.
David, don't forget that there were a couple of short periods when Dave 'n' Ger went off the monthly schedule and then caught up by publishing them twice a month. And, no, I'm not referring to the "Cerebus Bi-Weekly" reprints.
Thanks, guys. That made me LOL almost as much as the binge-watching of "The Office" does.
Jeff: the US or British (original) "Office?" I've got both seasons of the BBC version on DVD, and I've tried watching Series 2 recently & just can't...David Brent has become such an awful person by the second episode that I have to leave the room.
Other than the pilot, I've never watched the US version. I mean, what's the point?
Class, refresh my memory: Is this David J. guy the same one who used to go off about how "Star Wars" fulfilled some kind of Biblical prophecy, or was that a different...person?
Awesome work CiH? Team.
Jeff, thanks. Yes, Ger and Dave did a great job catching up on Cerebus in that way. Whatever anyone thought about such and such, I don't think many more will reach the level of continuity that they had. Thanks again.
Tony, thanks, no, I didn't mean Star Wars meant anything. It doesn't. I was using it during the Vark Wars time only as a way to convey the gospel of Christ. Thanks again.
