A few years ago I scanned all of Dave Sim's notebooks. He had filled 36 notebooks during the years he created the monthly Cerebus series, covering issues #20 to 300, plus the other side items -- like the Epic stories, posters and prints, convention speeches etc. A total of 3,281 notebook pages detailing his creative process. I never really got the time to study the notebooks when I had them. Just did a quick look, scanned them in and sent them back to Dave as soon as possible. So this regular column is a chance for me to look through those scans and highlight some of the more interesting pages.
Dave Sim's notebook #28 covers Cerebus #224 to 230 and had 58 page scanned, 37 blank pages and six missing pages. We've only seen it three times, most recently in June of 2017's Blasphemous Lies. Since we haven't seen the front cover, here it is:

On page 20 we see some items from Rick's Story, but down the bottom of the page is a paragraph on the Going Home storyline.

That paragraph at the bottom of the page speaks volumes. I thoroughly enjoyed the first few issues of the "Going Home" storyline precisely because Cerebus and Jaka *finally* seemed to be happy together. No, not just "seemed;" I think they genuinely *were* happy. (SPOILER ALERT) Even though it didn't end well, how many of us really have even a short stint of that kind of happiness?
