WTF, a comic book jam (Dave's Weekly Update #390)/Frank Miller's Ronin (Dave's Weekly Update #391) (it's cool, it's like one of the double issues...)

Hi, Everybody!

Dave's Weekly Update...FROM LAST WEEK...(oooohh do you feel like a time traveler?)

Well Dave, you'll definitely see everybody next week, because it's this week. (Tiiiiiiiimmmmmmmeeee Travel...)

I found out what happened. Dave Fisher, who posts these on Dave's behalf, is taking care of his ill father, and scheduled these, but didn't get a chance to double check they went up. So, if you're into prayer, say one for Dave's dad. And Dave. And if you're more hippy-dippy, send Fisher and his dad some "positive vibes" or whatever. (Hippy.)

ANYWAY, the Nazi shithead is back...so, comments are "locked" and under my moderation until "Himmler Jr." fucks right the hell off back to whatever little spider-hole he went to last time. Which means if you post a comment, it might not show up until I can get to it. (Sorry, not sorry.)

Cerebus in Hell?
And Ben Hobb's Kickstarter is fully funded, and all initial rewards are all met (yeah, I was surprised too...) he's added a couple of new goals:
Hello Everyone! Thank you so much for your tremendous support!

The first three Stretch goals have been unlocked! That means that every book comes with 2 trading cards: Cerebus and Batvark! (The two volume sets come with two of each.) And every volume will include a bookplate! I'll post mock-ups of the book plates in the coming days.

I've added two new stretch goals!

$12,000 unlocks the Dante Trading card, which will be added to every book.

$15,000 unlocks the Jingles trading card, which will be added to every book.

(Art not final)

Additionally, I've added Trading Cards! as both a new tier and an Add-on (In case two sets just isn't cutting it for you.)

Thanks again for all your support!

Benjamin Hobbs

Latest Kickstarter Update (sorta, this is from yesterday):
Hello everyone!

Ever since the campaign's start, Dave and Carson and I have been discussing different possible add-ons to the campaign, the type of project extras that only Kickstarter really makes feasible. And boy howdy, do we have a doozy for you today.

We just added the following item as an add-on—

From the add-on description:

The Preliminary Strange Death is a 120-page oversized book, presenting for the first time in print the preliminary artwork of Dave Sim. This volume is stuffed with preliminary artwork for both STRANGE DEATH and the STRANGE DEATH-related sequences for glamourpuss, presented as close to at-size as possible. This is a limited-availability, supplemental book, the same dimensions as STRANGE DEATH — 8.25" x 12", so it will fit comfortably on the shelf next to the finished book. As Sim's artwork increased in compositional complexity, Sim's tracing paper work became increasingly vital to his process, enabling him to reposition figures and even parts of figures to adjust his compositions and body language without having to redraw each time. These images give critical insight into the artist's interlocking drawing and design processes.

You might notice that the description doesn't indicate if this will be a black and white or color book. That's because once someone has pledged for an item, the description for that item can't be edited, and in this case, the final format of the book depends on you!

If we sell more than 100 of these, The Preliminary Strange Death will be presented in full-color. If orders are less than that, the book will be black and white. But either way, you'll have a gorgeous tome of preliminary drawings to go along with your finished book.

Later today I'll also be adding this as its own tier, for anyone who wants to pick up this book, but has already ordered Strange Death from their local store.

Lastly, I wanted to mention for those of you still wanting to get a Signed/Numbered/Limited edition of Strange Death — although that tier is sold out at the moment, over the past 48 hours we've had several people switch tiers to the unsigned book, temporarily opening up a S/N/L book. So if you're on the hunt, keep your eyes peeled, and you just might snag one!

I hope you all are having a fantastic Thursday!

All the best,

Sean Robinson

Memento Mori: Blair Kitchen

Hi, Everybody!

Sigh...

So, looking through the AMOCave, I DON'T have what I thought I did regarding Blair Kitchen.

We'll get to that, but first:

Blair's Funeral details. (I thought it was the obituary, but that's not up.)

And articles from the web. (A tip of the shiny metal helmet to Oliver Simonsen for posting these on the Cerebus Facebook group.)

And I know I post a lot of links to various things the buy or support, but this one is a go fund me for Blair's family. If you can, please give a couple bucks if you're able.
______________________________

Okay, I met Blair at the S.P.A.C.E. Con (possibly in 2010, possibly earlier. This is where the AMOCave fails me.) At the 2010 show, he and his brother Mike (the creator of Spy Guy) drew me: The. Greatest. Damn. Thing. Ever!
Click to have your eyeballs melted with awesomeness!!!!!
(I coloured Iguana.)

I sent Dave a copy in 2014, and he responded:
Hey look, "A Moment of Cerebus" (this counts.)
I THOUGHT I had pictures of Blair and Mike at S.P.A.C.E., but all I got are two bad photos of Blair from when we went to the Sausage Haus:

That's Blair and Margaret. He didn't look that bad in Real Life...

And here he is with Margaret (who's taking my wife's picture,) and Steve Peters.
R.I.P. Blair.

Cerebus Around the World and Web #9 by Oliver Simonsen

Hi, Everybody.

Before we get into it, Blair Kitchen, creator of The Possum, Friend to the Blog, and all around nice guy, has passed away.

From his Facebook:
For our friends and family who have been concerned about Blair. He developed a blood clot in his brain last Monday and has been in ICU. Unfortunately it caused extensive damage and he passed away just before 3am Jan 5th. I will post funeral details when I have them. Rochelle
My deepest condolences go out to Blair's family. I expect I'll be talking about this more tomorrow.

Blair Kitchen RIP.
His wife Rochelle shared to facebook the extremely sad news of his passing this morning.

Blair Kitchen, who Dave Sim traditionally spends Christmas with, is the creator of the indie comic Possum. Blair's animation can currently be seen on the NetFlix show "Green Eggs and Ham" and he was working on a Possum animated film as well. He developed a blood clot last Monday. I posted about his incredible work just the day before at "A Moment of Cerebus"

I was thinking about doing a "Necross destroys the universe?" spin off long ago (Necross is only in issue #15, not counting when he appears as Thrunk). Here's a sketch that i posted in the Cerebus facebook group way back when

Cerebus remastered news:
Film critic and Editor at Comics Beat, Kyle Pinion, asks in his first Cerebus facebook group post:
Forgive me if this has been answered before, but is there a sense out there of when/if the High Society remastered edition is getting reprinted? I was angling to maybe replace all my phone books as I can.
https://www.facebook.com/groups/cerebus/permalink/2689700794430612/
The Cerebus remasterer himself, Sean Robinson, replies:
Working on the solicitation now! So it'll need a few months to go through the Diamond solicitation period. Will look super snazzy (20+ more pages of original art than previous edition, MUCH sharper printing w no dot gain, richer blacks, etc, just like the other new editions from the last two or three years).

Margaret Liss‎ shares Cerebus drawn by legend and fan Alex Toth. Toth is most known as Character Designer on shows like Scooby Doo, Space Ghost, Thundarr, Super Friends, Birdman etcetc
https://www.facebook.com/groups/cerebus/permalink/2677966178937407/

Also, see Toth's other drawing for Dave Sim where he writes: "We all love Cerebus ol' son" that appeared on the inside of the front cover of Swords of Cerebus volume 4. The link also features some panels of none other than Necross!
