The Week in AMOC:
  • Saturday: I got caught up on the Faxes. As I do.
  • Sunday: I ran more High Society. Like when dinosaurs ruled the Earth...
  • Monday: Dave's computer died two weeks ago. The new one isn't set up and given to him. So, no Monday Report, so I posted more High Society (we are *this* close to being done after five years...
  • Tuesday: Jen mines the comments section for her post about The Strange Death of Alex Raymond Go Fund Me, and answers a question about the project.  Speaking of which, $200 until the next page is unlocked. 
  • Wednesday: Hobbs posts a painter panel from a new CiH? book.
  • Thursday: Margaret continued looking at the first Notebook AKA Albatross 1. $100 American will get YOU your own copy so she can move on to a different notebook. How that works: Send One hundred American dollars to Dave Sim, P.O. Box 1674, Station C, Kitchener, Ontario N2G 4R2, Canada. It can be a check, a money order, or just a Ben Franklin. (Make sure that your Money Order is international. Otherwise Dave can't get paid (It's why I'm just sending him a hundred dollar bill...).)

Please Hold For Dave Sim 9/2022

Hi, Everybody!

It's the first Saturday after the first Thursday, which means it's Please Hold For Dave Sim Time!

Part one: We remember Seiler by talking about the things he did when he was (probably) drunk:

My question is about Archbishop Posey. Did you consciously decide not include him in the double page spread in issue 300? I ask because you've said the reason Rick isn't there is that he's one of the most devout monotheists in the story. I couldn't help but notice some similarities between the two characters. They were both devout in their respective faiths, they were both martyred (though, maybe they killed Posey for simply stepping out of line), and they were both not in the spread in #300. Put another way: If Cerebus had a thought bubble of Posey with a question mark instead of Rick as he jumped into the light, would he have had a similar reaction to his absence? (Maybe not since Cerebus might associate Rick with his faith in God and Posey with his faith in Tarim.)

There's also the fact that in #160 Suenteus Po said Posey "died happily and at peace." At peace with God perhaps?

Question - Is Dave Sim the reason so many comics are printed in Canada? Cost of kindly labour? Quality of socialist paper? Canadian OCD persnickety-ness?

Hi Dave!

In your fax to Matt on "24 August 22" you wrote, "do I have to change to take the wrist stress down to zero and get everyone the same level of sketch? By the time I hit #26 - MICHAEL R. :) of EASTON PA, IS ALWAYS #26!!! - I pretty much had it figured out." My question is: Now that you "pretty much figured it out" does this mean you found that sweet spot in your penciling and inking where you are feeling more comfortable to increase your artistic workload?

Sorry I didn't get back to you earlier. I might have to change the copy on the Poison Elves panel, I forgot he was picked up by Siruis so wasn't self publishing at his death. I am thinking of adding some copy about online crowdfunding is making self publishing a viable option, for some. Drew Hayes was such a tragic figure, I remember meeting him in Seattle, it may have been Spirits, and how enthused he was over his goal of producing a page a day and more. The next time I saw, months later, he was a broken man. Very sad.

PS I am recovering from Covid but as I am fully vacced it's a mild case. Being vaccinated is no guarantee you won't catch Covid but most likely it won't kill you.

PSS I looked at faxing through my computer but I couldn't figure it out... besides being old I have learning disabilities.

Please Hold For Dave Sim 2/2022? Sorry, "please hold"...

I let Dave know that if he wasn't up to it, we wouldn't, and he said:

Sadly, our friend, the writer/artist Bill Messner-Loebs (Flash, Wonder Woman, The Maxx) has fallen on hard times again. He and his wife, who is not in the best of health, are currently residing in a temporary residence while Bill seeks work. At age 73, that isn't as easy as it should be. While I can only hope other publishers will have work for him, I've developed a project for Bill that will take time to unfold--in the meantime, we have some books that Aardwolf published in 2005, and a handful with bookplates SIGNED by Dave Cockrum, Bill, and myself. THREE TENORS OFF KEY features an introduction by Dave Sim and an Afterword by the late, splendid Tom Spurgeon. SIGNED books just are $25 each plus $3 for postage. Question for Dave: When you started mentally plotting out the course of Cerebus' life, did you envision that "in the end everybody dies", er, " no, in the end everybody is dead" (everybody being many major, influential characters), or was that more of a fluid plan as the series progressed? And, other than for structural expediency, why did Cerebus live so long when no one else did?

Can you ask Sim how his wrist is for me and if he's able to draw regularly again? Is this new artwork in this post?

Update on Dave's Wrist, Update on SDOAR, SAME ol' Bull$#!* I run every post...

Dave sent an update on his wrist:




The funny part (funny to me,)  is that Dave sent me a ten page fax of in-process Spawn art, which I guess he doesn't want me to run yet (or to use as "it'll look like this, but ya know, better..." instead.).

There's A LOT to unpack here, and I'll probably end up doing that in the comments, but the top of my list is: Has Dave had the same pair of glasses since High School? Or has he gotten his vision checked out in the past fifty years?
