Ya ever google something, and get an answer that chills ya to the bone? AND: Fan art on a wall in New Haven Connecticut 2026

Hi, Everybody!

On SATURDAY, JULY 4TH, the NEXT $25CAD 4 hour sale will be on at CerebusDownloads. From 10AM until 2PM (Eastern time AS FAR AS I KNOW!) Set an alarm. (It's Saturday or possibly Sunday morning depending on your time zone, you got nothing going on, set TWO alarms!)
10AM to 2PM Eastern time. Set three alarms.

Go nuts! Next sale is the $49CAD one on the 20th. (Then it's $25CAD again in August.)

As we do:

Mondays!

I had somebody ask about some of the earlier Monday Reports. I actually have a PDF of the first 238 Reports (I'm going to make a new version with the first 250, and start a second for the rest up until #500 (if Dave gets that far...).) If you're interested in a copy, lemme know at momentofcerebus@gmail.com... (ACTUALLY, I've just made one version which has all of them so far, so if you're interested, you can have that one...)

As you all should know by now (if you check A Moment of Cerebus more than once a month "to see if it's gotten good again..." (SPOLIER WARNING: still hasn't.).), Dave's CONTINUING the Please PAY For Dave Sim format. If you want more '82 Tour Book discussion, go HERE, and pay for "Dave Sim 82 Tour Book". But if you'd rather hear more stereotypical Please Hold (*shudder*) "content", go HERE and pay for "Please Hold For Dave Sim". Either way, I have to amuse myself in the Editing Suite assembling these things... (wanna find out how many of these I already own? Then you're gonna wanna pay for more '82...)

Until tomorrow night, you have a chance to swing the "vote" and donate for Please Hold. Otherwise '82 was winning, and I don't see that changing.

Which is a shame, because LAST month I thought Please Hold was winning, and sent the Faux to Dave which included this gem that we're NEVER gonna get answered because more money comes in from Debbie Gibson Fans:
About the Sim family of Kitchener
Hello,
Can you please forward this message to Mr Dave Sim ?

Hello Mr Sim,
I'm messaging you from France, and this message may sound a bit unusual to you — but please bear with me. I'm working with my father Bernard, who was born in a Normandy village called Tournai-sur-Dive. During World War II, this village lay at the very heart of the Falaise Pocket. As a child, my father was told that 2,000 Germans surrendered there to one Canadian soldier — and one alone. The Canadian's name was lost on the French side for decades. We have just discovered it: Major Gordon Drummond Sim of Kitchener, Ontario, who was killed near Boulogne-sur-Mer on 6 September 1944. So, you see me coming — are you by any chance related to this Gordon Sim?
His wife was Mildred Sybella Elizabeth Roedding. He died with no children. His father was David, his mother Cora. He had six brothers and one sister: William, David (Deputy Minister of National Revenue in Ottawa), Finlay (Secretary of Trade and Commerce), Charles (Salvation Army), Angus, Leslie. We have gathered many anecdotes about him and would be honoured to share them with his family.

With my warmest regards,

Ben Martin
I mean even if Dave isn't related, what's his reaction to the story gonna be? I guess we won't find out until he finishes his

I know Dave's dad was Ken Sim. I know he died. I wonder if I can find his obituary?

David SIM Obituary

SIM, David Alexander (Sandy)
BCom (Carleton University), CPA, CA
April 6, 1926
November 30, 2019

David Alexander (Sandy) Sim passed away on Saturday, November 30, 2019 in his 94th year. Dear husband and best friend of the late Dorothy Eleanor (Welch) Sim for 69 years. He was the son of the late David and Ada Sim and brother of the late Doris Sim. He was the proud father of Janet Sim (Ken Hood), Ellen (John Sheepway), Suzanne (James Stewart), David (Wendy Morton) and Elizabeth (Libby) (Louise Brewer). Loving grandpa of Scott (Meghan), Alison (Eric), Sarah (Brendan), Graham (Leslie), Julia, Andrew, Cameron (Shaylynn), Duncan, Andrew, Elizabeth and Isabelle, and great-grandpa of Angus, Mason, Miles, Camryn, James and Odin. Brother-in-law of Suzanne Welch, the late Marguerite McNally (Keith), and the late Lois Baker (Walter). Sandy was in the first Commerce graduating class of Carleton College (now University) in 1949. He then articled at Geo. A. Welch & Co. (now Welch LLP) and obtained his CA designation. He began his working career with Welch & Johnston Ltd. and then with Frontenac Auto Electric in Kingston. Returning to Ottawa, he was instrumental in the wind up of Welch & Johnston which had started business in 1920. After a brief retirement, he became Comptroller at Loch March Golf Club retiring after 25 years at age 85. Sandy and Dorothy were charter members and active volunteers at Kingsway United Church (now Kitchissippi United Church). He treasured his times with his pals at the Ottawa Hunt Club. The family would like to express heartfelt thanks to Dr. Lisa Cross for her tremendous care and compassion for Dad these last few months, Dr. Cindy Wang for her care and support in his final days and the wonderful care from the Carlingwood Retirement Community.

Apparently "Dave Sim" is like the Canadian "John Smith"...

I think I found Seiler...

Geez, this got depressing...

Fan art on a wall in New Haven Connecticut 2026
Greetings. This wall was painted by longtime fans of Sim and Gerhard. As I'm sure you're aware, the aardvark became a popular subject among graffiti artists in the 1980s. This mural is a tribute to the enduring power of Cerebus and the decades long legacy the character and its creators have forged.

That's a Square One Cerebus.

The one in front of Sophia is a TMNT #8 Cerebus, the eyes up is an early Cerebus. Somewhere in the first phonebook... And the "BLT" is in the style of the Church & State Cerebus Logo (like issue 90...)

Another early Cerebus. And "Mind The Void" is in the style of Church & State cover lettering (Talking With Tarim?)

Thanks for cheering us up "theo"...

Next Time: Jen's leaving on a jet plane. Last update until August...me and glamourpuss will still be here...

AMOC remembers Jim Shooter

Hi, Everybody!

Friend to the Blog and Home Office Head, Michael R. of Easton, PA sent in:
Hi Matt!
I just found that Jim Shooter passed away on June 30, 2025. This is from Wikipedia page.
Death
Shooter was diagnosed with esophageal cancer in 2024, and died of the disease at his home in Nyack, New York, on June 30, 2025.[30][70]
I sent you the video of me asking Jim about Wolverine/Wolveroach appearances in Cerebus 54, 55 and 56 with at the Lehigh Valley Comic Con back in April. I sent the video to Dave via Rolly, but Dave refused to watch the video.
Michael R.
Well, Dave won't watch it because he won't plug it in to his laptop (because that NEVER works...), but I'll see if I can get AMOC Special Friend, Jesse Herndon to transcribe it, and I'll send that up so Dave can read what Jim had to say.

Anyway, what Mike had to say "back in the day":
Hi Matt!
I was able to attend the Lehigh Valley Comic Convention on April 12, 2025 in Allentown, PA at the Ag Hall. It was packed. I had to wait over an hour to get in. I worked that morning and wasn't feeling well. I was going to back out and go home. I'm glad I toughed it out. Enclosed are some photos with Steve Peters, Scott Palochik's MARCVS #3 Lehigh Valley Comic Convention only copy, the creative team of MARCVS and the one and only, Jim Shooter.
I asked Jim to personalize Dave Sim on 2 copies. He stopped writing and looked up at me (which is funny because he's so tall LOL) and said, "You know Dave?" And I said, "Well, I've met him several times in the 80's and 90's, wrote letters and received letters back and even surprised me with phone calls." Right around here, I knew he was going to start talking about the Wolveroach/Wolverine parody covers. I quickly asked Jim if I could record his answer. He said, "Yes." It was 2 minutes and 20 seconds. He thought that there were 4 covers. I didn't want to correct him. LOL. He then signed my copies and I had someone on line which getting longer by the minute to snag a photo of us. The man can tell a story.

I edited Mike's video into AMOC A/V format:
Mr. Shooter mentioned the X-Men Crossover which has been documented on AMOC in the past. A few times. Like Dave's notes. And Marvel's contract.

Mr. Shooter has been quoted a few times on AMOC, like:
And probably most infamously,
Although that didn't stop Dave and Jim from being on friendly enough terms to get Dave work to shore up the A/V joint checking account by hiring Dave to do Original Sim, as recounted by Dave in the April 2025 Please Hold:
Chris W's comment on Please Hold for Dave Sim, January 2025, video 2. “I noticed the ‘marriage’ part of the contract too.” This is the contract that I was pitched for doing “Cerebus” through DC in 1985. “Am I misremembering? Or was Dave and Deni's divorce the reason he even started looking into working with Marvel or DC on this, just to bring in some extra money? Or am I thinking of the Epic stories or something else?” Uh, no. The only thing that Deni and I separating in 1983 that touched on Marvel and DC was, because Deni and I had a joint bank account and Deni was spending money from the joint bank account on family matters, helping out her older sister Adele who lives out in, I think it was Idaho? Yeah, I think it's Idaho. And I was going, I don't know how much this is going to happen, and I'm uncomfortable with these amounts of money flying out of here. So, I actually phoned Jim Shooter and said, can you give me a quick “here, I just have to do this” sort of thing for Marvel Comics and you can pay me your top page rate and pay me, actually, doing business as Aardvark-Vanaheim, as quickly as you can. And he said, "Uh, yeah, that's fine." He said, "Why don't you do a series of pin-ups for ‘Marvel Fanfare’?" So, that's where the original Sim portfolio that was in “Marvel Fanfare” came from. They paid a very generous page rate and “Marvel Fanfare” was one of their prestige titles where they could afford to pay more than they usually did. But, Adele got the cheque from Deni and said, “I really don't need this much” and just said, “I'll hang on to this much and you can keep the rest.” So that got reestablished in the Aardvark-Vanaheim joint account, and then that was the last time that Deni did that. So, it was one of those overreaction things, caution myself, don't you overreact to this! Just find a way to replace the money or some of the money and then let's see how do bad this problem gets before we start taking any other action. Like, don't do a stupid thing like, okay, I'm going to get a lawyer and sue you to prevent you from accessing the joint bank account. Then she would get a lawyer and just counter sue me for suing her, you know, inappropriately. And then you're in the situation where all of your money is disappearing and it's just going to lawyers, it's not doing any good for anybody else. So I think that's the part tha you're thinking of, Chris. But I did mention that at the time, I think, after the fact that this is what the original Sim portfolio was about, and I can certainly understand you going, “Okay, he was doing a multiple number of things at the time” but no, at the time it definitely wasn't “the divorce is making it necessary for me to get into bed with DC.” It was, is DC a possible viable alternative or side hustle that I can sign on to that'll do great things for me, great things for “Cerebus”, great things for the bank account, and hopefully great things for DC.
Our sympathies go out to Mr. Shooter's family, and thanks to Mike.

Please Hold For Dave Sim: 10/2021

Hi, Everybody!

It's the first Saturday after the first Thursday of the month.

Which means, IT'S Please Hold For Dave Sim TIME:

Don't worry, I KNOW I'm going to Hell for this...

First up, for you Audiophiles:

And if you want something visual, (that's not too abysmal):
Part one:
The app crashed. Twice. I've summarized what got cut out as best as I remember it.

But if you want a new one of these:

Sound off. If you don't tell us, we don't know.

(And I sort of explained what Dave said about me storing the extra 800 to my wife, and she DIDN'T say "no"... So if we order a thousand, I guess I'm the clearinghouse...)

And then in Part two, we begin:
I'ma miss you Shecky... (I honestly don't know what epitaph Jeff would have wanted, but I think I was close.)

Part three:
Michael R. (he of Easton, Pennsylvania fame) asked:
Hi Matt!
Hope all is well with you and yours. Here's my question for Dave.
Michael

Hi Dave!
I'm back. It's been a busy summer at work and Grace and I are getting A LOT of stuff done at home. While I was winding down last week I decided to rewatch the Cerebus: High Society - Audio/Visual "issues".

I am amazed and in awe with the work and effort that was made to get this done. From ALL your voices, the special effect backgrounds sounds and music make this over the top in production value REALLY good.

My questions are:
1- Was there any feedback from this Kickstarter? I can't remember.
2- The goal was to raise money to make Cerebus Digital 6000 a reality. What has changed on making this a reality?
3- Any plans on creating another one? …or you going Harpo with your response? HONK! HONK!
Michael
PS--- I heard about the passing of Jeff Seiler on Saturday's AMOC. R.I.P. Jeff. I hardly ever interacted with Jeff. I can't remember a time that Jeff did not come to your defense on AMOC.

1- I'm pretty sure he commented on a comment I made here and there on AMOC. He did so with practically everyone.
2- I did name his penguin, Pepe Lemieux, he had given to you.
3- In one of the CIH?s through on of the kickstarters, I believe, Jeff had pledged to have 4 pages drawn into an issue. I remember correcting a misspelling of a N.Y. Yankee, Graig (not Greg) Nettles. I can't remember the issue and I can't if he misspelled it or you. I'm guessing Jeff.
I, ah, I didn't edit the first answer from the second answer because that's more work than it's worth for me. (Maybe for next time. App willing...(The video editor app crashed three times making this video...).)

Well shit. I's wrong. High Society A/V WASN'T the start of the remastering. (What? At this point, I'm pretty sure the stuff I'm forgetting about Cerebus is starting to rival Dave's... *Sigh*) Mea Culpa. I'm faxing Dave after I post this...

And for the members of Little Orphan Aardvark's Secret Society, here's a copy of her message:
Supposedly they cracked Zodiac's code, but they'll NEVER crack this one...

And as soon as I get everything packaged up and in the mail (Monday. For realz...) you'll be able to bask *BASK* I say(!) in Little Orphan Aardvark's wisdom...

Okay, that's an hour or two of your rapidly diminishing life that your not gonna get back...

Thanks for watching/listening!

Next Time:

Uh... I mean: Oliver and Cerebus around the world and web #101...

Rest In Peace: Jeffery Alan Seiler

Hi, Everybody!

I got a fax yesterday from Dave:

So I tried to call Jeff, and got the same message Dave got, so I tried a second number Jeff had given me, and, as I faxed Dave:
Dave,
I talked to Steve Moran, XXX-XXX-XXXX, Jeff’s building manager/caretaker.

Jeff died last weekend.

The last time I talked to Jeff was September 15th. He had called the day before to give me more information about who I would need to contact/ who would contact me in the event that he did what he did last weekend.

I got ahold of Susan Sandahl, XXX-XXX-XXXX, the lawyer who was working on Jeff’s will (she told me his was dragging his feet,) and she confirmed that Jeff had died, and promised to send my contact info to Jeff’s sister. But she couldn’t tell me more.

Here’s what I posted to the Cerebus Facebook group (along wth your fax and the image of Jeff you did for Cerebus Readers in Crisis #1, that Jeff used as his profile picture on Twitter):
Jeff Seiler, Longtime Cerebus fan, publisher of Effing Magnifier Publications, Creator of Cerebus Readers In Crisis, frequent letter writer to Dave, the guy who was there when Gerhard took "The Smile of the Absent Cat" job for Heavy Metal, Voice of Elrod in Oliver Simonsen's Cerebus movie, etc. etc...

has..."shuffled loose this mortal coil"...

Jeff is now an "ex-Yahoo"...

Jeff has joined John Lougher in the great Cerebus Yahoo Chat Group in the sky...

"He's, I say, he's dead. Deceased that is. No longer with us. He's found out where Cerebus went at the end of issue #300." as Elrod would put it.

I don't know EXACTLY what happened. All I know is that he contacted me recently to say that he was putting me in his Will, and that he had developed complications to Liver Disease, and that the prognosis was that he'd be dead by the end of 2022. Dave faxed me today (attached), and I called Jeff and got the same message Dave did. Then I called his building manager Steve and he let me know that Jeff died last weekend.

FUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This one's for you Shecky...
Anything I hear, I will pass along as soon as I’m able…
Matt Dow
I also called Dave and left a message.

Dave responded:

Over on the FaceItBook, Jeff Tundis dug up a photo of Seiler in the Carmen Miranda outfit:

I've been posting more pictures over there, if you're interested.

But, of course one of the BEST pictures of Jeff is the one Dave drew:

I'll miss you my friend...

Next Time: Oliver and HIS Death in the family...

AMOC Remembers Richard Corben

Hi, Everybody!

Mondays:
(Okay, I've been informed that I APPARENTLY missed two Monday Reports. So here are ALL of them [Click for bigger.] -Matt):

And now, part #27:

________________________________

In case you didn't hear, Richard Corben has passed away:
It is with great sorrow and loss that I must share the sad news that Richard Corben died Dec 2, 2020 following heart surgery. He will be missed tremendously by his family, his friends, and his fans.

Richard was very appreciative of the love for his art that was shown by you, his fans. Your support over the decades meant a great deal to him. He tried to repay your support by working diligently on each piece of art going out to you. Although Richard has left us, his work will live on and his memory will live always in our hearts.

I will continue to conduct sales of Richard's art through the Corben Studios website at corbencomicart.com. I will also be managing the ongoing process of publishing his work internationally. Please give me and my family a little time to collect ourselves and we'll get back with you in 2021.

Dona Corben
I own only a few comics with Corben art, Banner, Punisher: The End, and maybe a few others.

But the first thing I ever got of Corben's was this:

Back in the Before Times (1988ish) Young Matt was at the FIRST Local Comicbook Shop, Powerhouse Comics, looking through a box of old magazines, and found Creepy #60. The cover drew him in. So he bought it for a dollar.
