The award-winning bestseller FROM HELL, often ranked among the greatest graphic novels of all time, takes on haunting new dimensions in FROM HELL: The Master Edition, enhanced with impressionistic hues by Eddie Campbell himself.

Travis sez: Eddie Campbell restores and colors the classic graphic novel.  Perhaps this time he'll remember the head of that one guy near the end, as told of in the From Hell dialogue between Dave and Alan Moore.

Travis sez: Historical fiction about Golden Age Canadian comics, by Margaret Atwood and Ken Steacy.  It's bound to be interesting!

DIRTY PLOTTE GN BOX SET COMPLETE JULIE DOUCET (MR)
JUL181775
(W) Julie Doucet (A/CA) Julie Doucet
Julie Doucet's comic book series Dirty Plotte is one of the most iconic to have ever been created, a visionary work both for the medium and for storytelling. Her stories are candid, funny, and intimate, plumbing the depths of the female psyche while charting the fragility of the men around her. Her artwork is dense and confident, never wavering in the wit and humour of its owner. Dirty Plotte: The Complete Julie Doucet collects the entire comic book series, including the acclaimed My New York Diary, rare comics and previously unpublished material, in a deluxe two volume box set.

Travis sez: A collection of Julie Doucet's comics from the '80s and '90s.  A version of her character made a memorable cameo in Latter Days.

JUL182036
(W) Michael Cherkas, Larry Hancock
The paranoid cult-classic science fiction mystery of the early days of indie comics returns! The series will begin with two books reprinting the original volumes, followed by the never before collected third album and concluding with an all-new fourth book of this epic series of conspiracy and paranoia. Set against the background of a nightmarish 1950s crawling with communist spies, corrupt FBI agents, McCarthyites, Stalinists, cold warriors, flying saucers, mysterious government organizations, The Silent Invasion weaves a byzantine tale of mystery and deceit as a bewildered investigative reporter Matt Sinkage pursues the truth behind an apparent alien invasion of earth that points to involvement at the highest levels of American government officials.

Travis sez: Sweet.  The stylish story of UFOs and conspiracies in the 1950s, originally released through Renegade Press, is being collected and eventually concluded with this GN series.  It's a great comic if you haven't read it.

CONAN THE BARBARIAN OMNIBUS HC VOL 01 DM VAR
JUL181159
(W) Roy Thomas, Barry Windsor-Smith, More (A) Barry Windsor-Smith, Gil Kane, John Buscema
THE ORIGINAL MARVEL CONAN IS BACK!
The greatest saga in sword-and-sorcery history begins - the saga of Conan! Born on a battlefield in the frozen lands of Cimmeria, Conan fights his way through the untamed Hyborian kingdoms, sparing no man, woman or wizard his wrath. His adventures will become legend. He will become king. Roy Thomas and Barry Windsor-Smith brought Robert E. Howard's iconic creation to four-color life with work that set new standards for comic book storytelling. Marvel is honored to present each story, each cover and each letters page - all painstakingly restored to match the majesty of the original editions. In these early exploits, Conan ventures from his homeland for the first time, honing his skills as a thief, mercenary, pirate and above all, warrior!
Collecting CONAN THE BARBARIAN (1970) #1-26 and material from SAVAGE TALES (1971) #1 and #4, CHAMBER OF DARKNESS #4 and CONAN CLASSIC #1-11.

Travis sez: Conan is going back to Marvel after years at Dark Horse, and here is a collection of the original Marvel comics, featuring Barry Windsor-Smith art that influenced the early Cerebus issues.  Approach with caution, though, as I'm not sure which coloring they're using for this one.

DOCTOR STRANGE EPIC COLLECTION TP MASTER OF THE MYSTIC ARTS
JUL181205
(W) Stan Lee, Steve Ditko (A/CA) Steve Ditko
A vain man driven by greed and hubris, Dr. Stephen Strange was a world-renowned surgeon until the night a car accident crippled his hands. Broken and destitute, he journeyed to Tibet to seek a cure from a legendary healer. There he found not a man of medicine, but the venerable Ancient One - and the path to the mystic arts! From Doctor Strange's eerie Greenwich Village home, Stan Lee and Steve Ditko created new dimensions and otherworldly terrors unlike anything seen before. These classic first stories remain as influential today as they were to 1960s counterculture. In this premiere volume, experience the debut of iconic characters including Baron Mordo, Eternity, Dormammu and the Mindless Ones - as well as Strange's faithful servant Wong and the mystic mistress Clea! Collecting material from STRANGE TALES (1951) #110-111 and #114-146 and AMAZING SPIDER-MAN ANNUAL #2.

Travis sez: Pay tribute to the memory of Steve Ditko with this new version of the entire (I think) Ditko run of Doctor Strange.  I need more money so I can get things like this!

Collects THE HOUSE OF SECRETS #92 and SWAMP THING #1-13.

(W) Jimmy Gownley (A/CA) Jimmy Gownley
Meet Amelia Louise McBride. She's been forced to move out of Manhattan after her parents decided to get divorced, and is now living in a small town (who cares which one) with her mom and her aunt, Tanner. Not to mention the fact that she's dealing with being the new kid in school, many trips to the principal's office, first kisses, etc. But you know what? She's got her friends Reggie, Rhonda, and Pajamaman, and everything's going to be okay. Except, of course, when it isn't.

Travis sez: A new printing of our pal Jimmy Gownley's excellent Amelia Rules comic!

SILVER AGE CLASSICS TALES OF MYSTERIOUS TRAVELER HC VOL 01
JUN181938
(A) Rocco Mastroserio, Bill Molno, Charles Nicholas, Steve Ditko, Dick Giordano, Paul Reinman, Tony Tallarico, Maurice Whitman, Howard Boughner
Courtesy of the Traveler's creator, Steve Ditko, this title beat pretty much everything else on the creaking metal comic book spinners. What it may have lacked in the comicbook equivalent of $100M FX budgets, the Mysterious Traveler made up for it with sheer class, style and out 'n out pizzazz and charm. A clear inspiration to the hugely popular Amazing Adult Fantasy, the Mysterious Traveler is surely the original "adult" comic and the one that's still, with these sumptuous hardcover four-color volumes, worth a deep read. Collects Tales of the Mysterious Traveler #1-5 (August 1956 to January 1957).

Travis sez: A collection of the Steve Ditko comic from the '50s.  The PS Artbooks line is pretty good from what I've seen.

HEY KIDS COMICS #1 (MR)
JUN180055
(W) Howard Chaykin (A) Howard Chaykin (CA) Don Cameron
SERIES PREMIERE! HEY KIDS! COMICS! takes its cue from nearly a century of turbulence and triumph, despair and drama in the comic book racket. Artists and writers, con men and clowns, ganefs and gangsters, create the foundations of today's biggest entertainment business-or at least the tail that wags the dog. Some of it really happened, and the names have been changed to protect the innocent and guilty... although in the end, everyone was guilty of something.

Travis sez: A new series from Howard Chaykin, telling tales out of school about the shenanigans behind the scenes involved in making comics.  Should be interesting.

LEVIATHAN #1 CVR A PITTARA & GARLAND (MR)
JUN180012
(W) John Layman (A/CA) Nick Pittara
SERIES PREMIERE! Poor Ryan DeLuca didn't buy enough beer for his party, and while he was out on a beer run his idiot buddies busted out some mystical arcana and performed a summoning ceremony-a ceremony that summoned a giant monster from hell!
Join multiple Eisner-winning writer JOHN LAYMAN (CHEW) and Eisner-nominated artist NICK PITARRA (THE MANHATTAN PROJECTS), along with soon-to-be-nominated-for-best-colorist MICHAEL GARLAND (THE MANHATTAN PROJECTS) for an eye-popping, face-melting, reality-defying, nonstop rush of pure adrenaline.

Travis sez: Cerebus superfan John Layman is back with his first creator owned comic after the end of Chew (I believe), with art by the great Nick Pitarra and colors by Michael Garland.  It's about a party that gets out of hand when a demon is summoned.  Whom amongst us, amirite?

BERLIN HC COMPLETE EDITION (MR)
JUN181666
(W) Jason Lutes (A/CA) Jason Lutes
During the past two decades, Jason Lutes has quietly created one of the masterworks of the graphic novel golden age. Serialized in twenty-two issues, collected in two volumes, with a third to be co-released at the time of this omnibus, Berlin has over 100,000 copies in print. An intricate look at the fall of the Weimar Republic through the eyes of its citizens, Berlin will be one of the high-water marks of the medium: rich in its researched historical detail; compassionate in its character studies; and as timely as ever in its depiction of a society slowly awakening to the stranglehold of fascism.

Travis sez: Jason Lutes has finally completed the long-running Berlin comic, which lasted almost as long as Cerebus did but only got 22 issues out of it.  Oops.  Anyway, it's very good from what I've read, a look at the period of the late 1920s/early 1930s Germany.

IRON MAN 2020 TP NEW PTG
JUN180993
(W) Ken McDonald, Fred Schiller, Various (A) Mark Beachum, Herb Trimpe, Various (CA) Bob Wiacek

Catch all the futuristic action as Arno battles Spider-Man and Blizzard in a time-traveling adventure to stop a nuclear terrorist; faces Machine Man at the behest of Tony's old foe Sunset Bain; and clashes with the original Death's Head, industrial saboteur Marcus Wellington and the high-flying Commodore Q! Can Arno overcome his foes - and himself - to become the hero he's modeled himself after? Collecting AMAZING SPIDER-MAN ANNUAL #20, MACHINE MAN (1984) #1-4, DEATH'S HEAD #10, IRON MAN 2020 #1, ASTONISHING TALES: IRON MAN 2020 #1-6 and material from WHAT IF? (1989) #53. Rated T

Travis sez: I think that there is Barry Windsor-Smith art in this collection, but I'm not completely sure.

MARVEL UNIVERSE BY FRANK MILLER OMNIBUS HC
JUN180959
(W) Frank Miller, Chris Claremont, Dennis O'Neil, Various (A) Herb Trimpe (A/CA) Frank Miller
Frank Miller took the comics industry by storm, redefining iconic characters, obliterating creative boundaries and inspiring a generation of readers and creators. While most know Miller as the man who remade Daredevil and created Elektra, he contributed his talents to many Marvel titles - and this incomparable Omnibus brings those stories together in one complete collection! From Miller's first Marvel work to his extensive array of covers and rare pinups, this painstakingly restored collection is the Millerphile's be-all and end-all. Featuring Miller's iconoclastic takes on Spider-Man, Captain America, Wolverine, the Thing, Doc Samson, Captain Marvel, Karma, Power Man and Iron Fist and more! Collecting PETER PARKER, THE SPECTACULAR SPIDER-MAN (1976) #27-28; MARVEL TWO-IN-ONE (1974) #51; MARVEL SPOTLIGHT (1979) #8; AMAZING SPIDER-MAN ANNUAL #14-15; MARVEL TEAM-UP ANNUAL #4; WOLVERINE (1982) #1-4; MARVEL FANFARE (1982) #18 - and material from MARVEL PREVIEW #23; MARVEL TEAM-UP (1972) #100; POWER MAN AND IRON FIST (1978) #76; INCREDIBLE HULK ANNUAL #11; and OFFICIAL HANDBOOK OF THE MARVEL UNIVERSE (1983) #2-6, #8 and #10. Rated T +

Travis sez: Frank Miller on Marvel characters.  Of course it's cool.

WHERE WE LIVE LAS VEGAS SHOOTING BENEFIT ANTHOLOGY TPMAR180600
(W) Various (A) Various (A/CA) J. H. Williams
"On October 1, 2017, Las Vegas, Nevada suffered the worst mass shooting in modern American history, resulting in 58 deaths and over 500 injured. It broke my heart. Las Vegas is my home. I felt like something needed to be done to help in a unique way."-JH WILLIAMS III, Artist & Curating Editor
This "unique way" was the genesis of the WHERE WE LIVE anthology - a riveting collection of both fictional stories and actual eye-witness accounts told by an all-star lineup of the top talent working in comics today.  All the creators have graciously volunteered their time and talent to help bring some sense to this senseless act and, in the process, raise money for the survivors and their families.
The book will include a variety of perspectives with key themes exploring gun violence, common sense gun control, value of a compassionate society, mental health stigmatization, aftermath of tragedy and how individuals and communities persevere, and an appreciation of Las Vegas as a vibrant community.
WHERE WE LIVE also features stories from local writers and artists as they relate their personal experiences and reactions to this tragedy.
One hundred percent of the proceeds for the WHERE WE LIVE anthology will be donated to an existing GoFundMe campaign for the survivors in Las Vegas.

Travis sez: A collection of comics to benefit victims of the Las Vegas shooting.  A great lineup of creators, including Mike Allred, Neil Gaiman, Bill Sienkiewicz, and a bunch more.

STRAY BULLETS SUNSHINE & ROSES TP VOL 01 MAR180618
(W) David Lapham (A/CA) David Lapham
Dark and twisted, funny and heartbreaking, intimate and epic-SUNSHINE & ROSES tells the story of a boy and a girl, how they fell in love and hatched a scheme to blow up the Baltimore underworld. There is no crime book remotely like STRAY BULLETS, and with SUNSHINE & ROSES, the uncompromising EISNER AWARD-WINNING team of DAVID & MARIA LAPHAM take the series to a new high. Collects STRAY BULLETS: SUNSHINE & ROSES #1-8.
Travis sez: It's the first collection of the now long-running Sunshine and Roses arc of Stray Bullets, the long-running crime comic by David Lapham.

MAGE TP VOL 04 HERO DEFINED BOOK TWO MAR180710
(W) Matt Wagner (A/CA) Matt Wagner
The fourth of six volumes collecting MATT WAGNER's epic, modern-day fantasy trilogy, MAGE, BOOK TWO: THE HERO DEFINED continues the saga of the reborn Pendragon, Kevin Matchstick. Pursuing their common goal of confronting and defeating the world's hidden supernatural threats, Kevin and his companions Joe Phat and Kirby Hero find themselves drawn northward by mystical forces they don't understand. Trailed by the persistent but befuddled Wally Ut, Kevin finds himself tested by his assumptions of leadership and clarity of purpose. Still hidden from our heroes, dark and familiar forces conspire to drain Kevin's own power...and turn it against him! MATT WAGNER's classic epic of comics fantasy was at the vanguard of the independent comics scene and continues to be an inspiration for many contemporary creators, longtime fans, and new readers alike. An essential part of any comics library, the final part of the trilogy returns in June with MAGE: THE HERO DENIED #9. Collects Hero Defined #9-#15
Travis sez: I think that the issue where Kevin Matchstick fights the Dave Sim analogue would be in the third volume of Mage, but it could be in this book.  Either way, it's Mage, it's thinly veiled analogues to certain comics creators, and there's other stuff.  I guess, it's been awhile since I read any of this.

The Fantastic Four has always been the home for Marvel's biggest ideas and most creative concepts. A possessed Franklin Richards threatens all reality with his immeasurable power! The FF join Captain Marvel in a cosmic war against the Skrulls, drawn by George Pérez! Doctor Doom retakes Latveria! A lost race of technologically advanced Vikings, powered by a blind god's tears, needs the FF's aid! And a trip to the great outdoors ain't no picnic when alien brain parasites attack! Travis sez: an oversized collection of Galactus stories, including the original trilogy, and featuring Kirby, John Buscema and Byrne art, as well as a new printing of the original 30 issues of the book that started the Marvel Age.  There's also a collection of Bill Sienkiewicz's run on FF, which I wasn't aware was something that had happened.
Matt Says: The Bryne Galactus story in the "Behold Galactus" HC is one of the most overrated pieces of crap I've ever read. Ug. SO horrible...

ART OF JIM STARLIN LIFE IN WORDS & PICTURES HC MAR181077
(W) Jim Starlin (A/CA) Jim Starlin
There are few creative names in comics whose influence is felt more in pop culture than Jim Starlin-with his creations Thanos, Gamora and Drax the Destroyer occupying such prominent roles in Marvel's cinematic universe. The "father of the cosmic soap opera," Jim Starlin's name is synonymous with the larger-than-life epic, which is why AfterShock is proud to bring back into print this epic 328-page retrospective on the career of one of the most popular and prolific comic book artists of the last 40 years! Covering everything from his humble beginnings to his rise as one of the industry's top creative talents, this oversized volume includes glimpses into Starlin's files and sketchbooks, as well as images of his personal favorites with insights into his life and creative process. The first edition of this volume sold out instantly. Don't be caught short this time! Just in time for the release of Marvel's Avengers: Infinity War movie!
Travis sez: Jim Starlin's art featured here.  Cosmic, man!

LOVE THAT BUNCH HC MAR181571
(W) Aline Kominsky Crumb (A/CA) Aline Kominsky Crumb
Aline Kominsky-Crumb immediately made her mark in the Bay Area's underground comix scene with unabashedly raw, dirty, unfiltered comics chronicling the thoughts and desires of a woman coming of age in the 60's. Kominsky-Crumb traces her steps from a Beatles loving fangirl, East Village groupie, an adult grappling with her childhood, an 80s housewife and mother, to a new 30-page story Dream House that looks back on her childhood, 40 years later. Collecting comics from the 1970s through today, Love That Bunch is shockingly prescient while still being an authentic story of its era.
 CARPET SWEEPER TALES JAN161406
(W) Julie Doucet (A/CA) Julie Doucet
Julie Doucet is an artist who has mastered many voices and styles, from her groundbreaking early comic-book series, Dirty Plotte, and the classic graphic novel My New York Diary, to her linocut and collage work, to her impeccable 'zines, prints, and other ephemera. In Carpet Sweeper Tales, we see this multi-faceted artist combine her many talents into one genre-defying masterwork. Here she revisits the comics form, pulling images from 1970s Italian fumetti, or photonovels, to create her own collage comics, dwelling on femininity and the modern world.
Travis sez:  A couple from Drawn and Quarterly.  Aline Kominsky-Crumb has a collection, Love That Bunch, of her comics from the '70s to today, and Carpet Sweeper Tales is a reoffered book from Julie Doucet, whose avatar appeared in the Latter Days.

WINNER GN MAR181862
(W) Karl Stevens (A/CA) Karl Stevens
Karl Stevens uses the graphic novel to dissect the line between the worlds of high and low art. While working as a museum guard he contemplates the plight of his aesthetic choices, and how they have affected his life thus far. Where is his place as an artist? How has his world changed since he met his wife and muse Alex? Has he become boring since he quit drinking? Painted visions of autobiographical reality swing into experiments with fantasy and science fiction.

Travis sez: A collection of comics by Karl Stevens, who was (is?) going to do something with Strange Death, if I recall right.
VIOLENT CASES 30TH ANNIVERSARY COLLECTORS HC MAR181924
(W) Neil Gaiman (A/CA) Dave McKean
This a 30th anniversary celebration of a sensitive and ingenious work, that reveals the often murky nexus between memory and imagination through the narrator's cloudy childhood remembrance of a visit to Al Capone's osteopath - and the impact of his seedy stories on an impressionable youth.

Travis sez: A 30th anniversary edition of the Gaiman/McKean collaboration.  This is at least the third different publisher of this one.

PETER KUPER CONVERSATIONS SC MAR182159
(A/CA) Peter Kuper
Peter Kuper, one of America's leading cartoonists, has created work recognized around the world. His art has graced the pages and covers of numerous magazines and newspapers. He is also a longtime contributor to Mad magazine, where he has been writing and drawing Spy vs. Spy for nearly two decades. Along with two dozen images, this volume features ten lively, informative interviews with Kuper. The book also includes a quartet of revealing interviews with underground comix legends R. Crumb and Vaughn Bodé, Mad magazine publisher William Gaines, and Jack Kirby, co-creator of mainstream superheroes from the Avengers to the Fantastic Four. These were conducted by Kuper and fellow artist Seth Tobocman in the early 1970s, when they were teenagers.

Travis sez: Not only does this include interviews with Kuper, but it includes interviews that he conducted in the '70s with Kirby, Crumb, Bode, and others, which makes this extra neat.
