The only BTVRK variant you can get...

Hi, Everybody!

____________________
Got this from Birdsong:
Dave's is offering one BTVRK Variant. It will be on sale for exactly one week. Available in splattered for $35 and unsplattered $20. Start date to be determined. Dave's fax, expanding on what will be on the cover, was in response to this first draft. The 2nd draft is underway.

And Dave's response:

And reading comprehension isn't our best feature, so Birdsong clarifies:
Shit, as usual I miss something in Dave's fax. There at the end it says "Just Splattered" because offering both versions takes advantage of Cerebus Fan's wallets.
So.

BTVRK
Official Genuine Fake Dave Sim Blood-Splattered "Feed The Cerebus In Hell? Team" #xx/xx

Signed, Numbered, Splattered & Dated
by Dave Sim

One week only.
$35

Date: To Be Announced
Back when BTVRK was first getting pitched, I suggested:
I figured it out.

Not Thirty Covers.

New cover every third page. With a new premise/cast/ whatever.

So: cover, strip on IFC, new cover on 1, strip on 2, new cover on 3, strip on 4, etc.

Make all the covers Black & White. Then get Marquis to bind the pages at random.

Make it a 48 pager.

The collector market will go nuts.

Matt
(And the titles are all Mr. Mxyzptlk titles, where there are no vowels. Like JNGLS, DNT&VRGL, WHRFBBLN, etc.)
I'm full of good ideas...

BATVARK : A POET IN THE FAMILY (Dave's Weekly Update #426)

Hi, Everybody!

Dave's Weekly Update:

Okay, I suggested this cover.
I suggested a couple of gags that made it in (as far as I know...).
I've READ the issue in faxed preliminary form.
I have no idea what the hell(?) just happened in that video...
Anyway:

Swords of Cerebus in Hell? volume 1

And then there's THIS thing:

Over on the FaceItBooks, Craig Johnson shared:
For real Sim completists - completionists? - ah, whatever - Clifford Meth posted this and a few here might be interested for the Dave intro:-
Sadly, our friend, the writer/artist Bill Messner-Loebs (Flash, Wonder Woman, The Maxx) has fallen on hard times again. He and his wife, who is not in the best of health, are currently residing in a temporary residence while Bill seeks work. At age 73, that isn't as easy as it should be. While I can only hope other publishers will have work for him, I've developed a project for Bill that will take time to unfold--in the meantime, we have some books that Aardwolf published in 2005, and a handful with bookplates SIGNED by Dave Cockrum, Bill, and myself. THREE TENORS OFF KEY features an introduction by Dave Sim and an Afterword by the late, splendid Tom Spurgeon. SIGNED books just are $25 each plus $3 for postage. Please contact me directly if you'd like one.
I reached out to Mr. Meth, and he said:
I’m afraid they will have to connect with me if they want copies. And I don’t have that many left. I’m sorry but this book was published many years ago and I’m not set up as a business—Just a writer and old friend helping Bill. People can connect with me on Facebook or email me at cliffmeth@aol.com
And then added:

I also have a handful of these. They are signed by Bill, Dave Cockrum, Paty Cockrum and myself. Selling the sets for $18
So, if you want to help a brother out...

Matt and Margaret are fighting (don't cry Jeff, they can't get divorced since they ain't married to each other...)

Hi, Everybody!

On Wednesday, I got the BEST Dave Sim autograph!

"Big deal I got Dave's signature on lots of stuff..."

I was talking to THEM Margaret!

And it's the BEST Dave Sim signature!

"Like the only counterfeit Cerebus #1 he's ever signed 'Dave Sim', BEST?"

(Nobody likes a show-off Margaret...)

No, Dave's signature on a check is the BEST Dave Sim autograph!

What'd I do to earn a hundred and thirty-nine bucks (American)?

Well look closer:

"What the heck is 'DIA 7073'? I don't speak nerd..."

Classy as always Mags...
classy as always...

I didn't know either, so I asked Eddie. He knew...

That's the Diamond code for The Amazing Batvark:

Which was a cover I suggested. Although, they didn't use the gag I wrote for the cover:
Caption Cerebus: “You’re staring at Cerebus. Cerebus can feel it!” Caption Batvark: “Did you know you have a liverspot on the back of your head that looks EXACTLY like Spiro Agnew?”

AND, I wrote the IFC:

Damn, I'm funny...

Anyway, I got the Faxes from Dave:
Uh, this is the first I've heard of "STOP ME IF YOU'VE HEARD THIS ONE: THE SECRET ORIGIN OF CEREBUS IN HELL?".

Anatol's Solecism, ya got THAT one on your checklist MARGARET? Huh? DO ya? Yeah, that's right, sulk in silence...

I did a search for READER-WRITTEN COMICS #2, and found this. Which includes the following:
I also produced three comic books; "Dusty Rack Dramas" (a disaster), "Reader Written Comics" #1 & 2. Reader Written #2 published in 1977 was quite innovative, combining story ideas submitted by the readers. Worked well, as I rewrote and combined stories, and created the dialog. A Buyer's Guide magazine critic said RWC #2 had incredible artwork and awesome stories. I employed Dave Sim who went on to draw the famous comic book Cerebus The Aardvark in Canada, and Steve Vance who went on to illustrate Bartman Comics from the Simpsons cartoon TV show. However, not being much of a businessman I trashed hundreds of these over sized comics in the dumpster of my Adelphi Maryland apartment complex.
I told my wife about Dave's dream and she said, "That's creepy." The woman doesn't get it sometimes...

Anyway, I faxed back to Dave, and he said:

Here's Dion's covers:

And the POSSIBLE second print cover to Baby Yoda Cerebus #1:

(Dion's pretty amazing...)

I don't think so Dave...

Anyway, BACK to the Fax machine:

Neat, right?

You guys didn't read anything after Spawn #10 Lenticular cover, did you?

I'll talk about THAT on Monday...

Next Time: Oliver shows off HIS check...
