The rarest Cerebus Collectible I've had made this week...and how YOU can get one (okay, two)!

If you're visiting A Moment of Cerebus, I presume you own Cerebus, either physically (individual issues or the phonebooks, or a mix of both.), or digitally. But if you DON'T own Cerebus digitally (at this point, I, again, presume this is an increasingly shrinking minority,) well all "three hundred" (not really) issues will be on "4-hour Crazy Sale" on Monday, May 4th, from 10AM to 2PM (presumably Eastern time) at CerebusDownloads.com for TWENTY-FIVE CANADIAN DOLLARS ($18.39 USD based on today's exchange rate.) It's 

So, if you've been debating "pulling the trigger" on getting digital Cerebus, Monday is the day to get all sixteen Phonebooks (ten of them Remastered by Sean Robinson (who has all but Latter Days remastered, but not converted to CerebusDownloads.com format, so by the end of the year(?) you'll have almost all of them remastered and on CerebusDownloads.com for $25CAD when Dave "runs" his nutty sale...),). Cue Granpaw's postcard:

It's NOT 1-300. It's 1-50, 52-111, 114-136, 7/10ths of 138, 139-300. #s 51, 112/113, 137, and 3/10ths of 138 aren't reprinted in the phonebooks. They ARE reprinted in Cerebus Number 0, which isn't on CerebusDownloads.com, but I'm WORKING on it...

Again, it's NOT "the complete 6,000-page CEREBUS GRAPHIC NOVEL", because eighty-six pages aren't reprinted in the phonebooks (but "Goat" and Silverspoon ARE, which adds fifteen pages,) And it was NEVER "6000-pages", because 1-13 are twenty-TWO pages each, so it's 6026 pages. But you have to subtract the 86 pages that aren't in the phonebooks, but ADD the 11 Silverspoon strips and the 4 page Goat. Which is 5,954 pages. And that doesn't count the Notes in the latter phonebooks. (If you think those "count".) OR, the "Miscellany" stories like the Swords shorts that take place between issues (and in one case between panels of a single issue...) which should "count" towards the total page count. 
Basically, Dave's not to good with numbers when it comes to Cerebus...
I don't MEAN to be pedantic, but he's ALWAYS doing this stuff... don't even get me started on the print run of Cerebus #1...

So, MONDAY (May 4th) 10AM-2PM, be there or you'll miss out and have to wait until the next "crazy" sale in June...(is it on my birthday?  Nope, eleven days later...) CerebusDowloads.com "we got Aardvarks coming out the @$$!"

Okay, so I'm ONCE again trying to get the Pud's Tavern Logo onto the shirts and such for my kid's Dance Team

Last time we did "Buggid", this time we could do the Ale Mug...

It's ridiculously stupid, but it makes me laugh...

Now THIS year, they changed up how they're soliciting sponsorships

I want Pud's Tavern announced at halftime of the games the girls dance at. SO to get to the Captain's level, I need to raise $350 (I know they say three hundred at a minimum, but I think we need to outshine everybody else. We're being stupid, so we might as well go all out...). I got a couple of backers already (and a hearty "Thank you, sir" to those guys...), but I'ma need more help. BUT I understand that there are a whole lot of Cerebus-related-things you can throw money at around here (I post all them links in these things, after all,) and this  one is so fucking dumb, but I gotta try, because it's funny. (So funny.) SO, to reward the hardspent cash of you brave volunteers, EVERYBODY who donates Twenty American Dollars ($20) will get a RARE Cerebus collectible.

"How rare?" There are only 40 of them.

And I should send a set to Dave (I mean I  KNOW he doesn't play games, and I'm sure he's against gambling, but it IS his little aardvark on there, so it's only right I send him a set (if he can't get Cerebus back in print, he might have to change his no gambling rule and start his OWN floating Craps game...).), so that leaves EIGHTEEN sets left for all you nice people to get by giving me $20 so I can get the Pud's Tavern Logo back where it truly belongs... (And ACTUALLY, it's sixteen sets left, since the two guys who already chipped in are getting sets. It pays to be nice early...)

The CAN13/Ninja High School Cerebus #2&3/Cerebus in Hell? numbers 87 (Cerebus in Jail?) and 88 (The Pun Issuer Groan Zone)/CAN29(sorta) Kickstarter. Which includes $3 cheapo versions of the comics, and Dave's "I hate your stupid mailman" Cerebus backissue offer. Two hundred and thirty-one issues of Cerebus from the Cerebus Archive, that have NEVER been circulated:

It's 231, because there are issues that Dave's completely sold out of. 

And it's a package deal, you gotta buy all 231 of them. Dave (more realistically, Rolly) isn't gonna dig around and find you that ONE copy of issue #89 I need...I mean, that one issue you need. It's all of 'em or nothing. And Dave's only offering THREE sets on this Kickstarter (mainly because the cost is pretty high...) $340USD to Canada, $440USD to the USA, and $640USD to all the other parts of the world that we only think of when we're playing RISK. "Yugoslavia? Czechoslovakia? Peru? You're just making up words..."

They're not listed as rewards, you have to back the campaign, and then message Birdsong. It's his problem then...

As loooooonnggg time AMOC readers know, Dave likes to do his business on the streets, in plain view of Everybody, with no "behind-closed-doors" shenanigans. Which means I get "faxes" (or Fauxes if you will,) like this:

I VAGUELY remember an email about something like this, but I can't find it. I asked Eddie, and he gave me an encapsulated version, but he's dealing with more important personal matters, so if George wants to swing on by the comments and let us all know what's happening... (Eddie will be by if/when he can...)

A couple of things:

1. Bill Messner-Loebs books are (presumably) on/from Critical Blast (it's what the website says...):

As I announced last week, Dave has a problem with The 1982 Tour Book. His SPECIFIC example was two photos of the same signing that were labeled as two different signings.

And I pointed out that 

1. Dave has the wrong store. He and Deni were at two stores doing signings that day, and Comic Art Gallery was the SECOND store, but the Tour Diary says Joe Rubenstein showed up at the FIRST signing at West Side Comics.
2. Dave didn't annotate the photos from the '82 Tour material he provided The Waverly Press. (Like he did for ALL the other photos he sent me that are in the AV Family Photo Album.)
3. And there are a NUMBER of "Dave and/or Deni in front of a rack of comics" photos in the '82 Tour materials.

So, to belabor the point, I went through the pile of "to be sorted" photos in the AV Family Photo Album that DON'T include the '82 Tour stops photos, and pulled out a bunch of signing photos. That run from 1982 to the Last Signing in 2010. 

And we're gonna play a little game. "Are these from the same signing?" Also, I'ma troll Dave on two photos that I figured out where they were from that Dave has in the "No idea" pile.

No. It'll be fun.

Nope. #1-4 are "Moondance Comics Nov/23/1985 Hadley MA" that's the signing where Dave met Kevin Eastman (seen in #4) and Peter Laird, and where Stephen Murphy and Michael Zulli first showed him the pages for the Puma Blues (#2). #5 isn't even a comic book store. It's "Suncon Tampa Florida 1986".

Yes. These are from the Last Signing. At...Strange Adventures, Halifax Nova Scotia Sept. 24-25 2010.

My point being, all comic stores kinda look alike.

So Dave had these two photos labeled as "No idea." He doesn't know WHERE or WHEN they were taken.

I'm pretty sure this is the same guy, in the same store, at the same signing.  Compare:

Looks like the same outfit. Just different exposures on the film.

"Okay Matt. Did you figure out where or when these were taken?"

I did indeed, Imaginary-AMOC-reader-who-lives-rent-free-in-my-head, indeed I DID.

In the first photo, (which as with ALL the AV Family Photos in the AV Family Photo Album,) (are HUGE scans, like when I cropped JUST the single photo, it was 2000some pixels wide.) (I crop everything for posting to 640 pixels as per Tim's rules.) I zoomed in and found:

That's an early Aardvark, it COULD be an old poster, but I don't think so. Also, ya got one of THESE Mags?

And this rack of Comics:

In the "HEY KIDS NEW STUFF!" section is (on the left):

Which came out in...October of 1985. And lower on the rack (bottom row visible in the picture) is Squadron Supreme. I google searched, and it's issue #6, which is cover dated February 1986, but was released October 22 1985. So if it's "new" this has to be late October early November 1985.

Do we know if Dave was at a signing or such in November of 1985?

I do. And if you been paying attention, you probably do too...

Well, look at the background of the comparison photo again:

On the right. 

"Walden" as in "Walden Books". Which (for the Youths) was a chain of bookstores located in Shopping Malls. So, this was a comic store in a Mall. 

Do we know of any comic stores in a Mall?

I do. And if you been paying attention, you probably do too...

What's above the "Walden"? A Symbiote Spider-Man logo.

So, let's look at are clues:

• A comic book store in a mall
• in October/November 1985
• With a Symbiote Spider-Man logo

Could it be...

"Moondance Comics Nov 23 1985 Hadley MA"

You can SEE the Symbiote Spidey logo. AND the "HEY KIDS NEW STUFF!" sign (if ya squint...)

I mean it didn't take Hercule Poirot to crack THIS case...
