Ditko, Gorgo, Konga (Dave's weekly update #600)

Hi, Everybody!

Like it says on the Logo:
The little bit on the bottom there...

It's Friday, so that means:
Dave's Weekly Update:
A Moment of Cerebus runs Saturday through Friday.

The Week in AMOC:
  • Saturday: Catching up on the Fauxes (since Dave can't Fax, what else would I call the stuff he has Rolly email me?)...
  • Sunday: Steve Swenson's A Moment of Cerebus.
  • Monday: The Monday Report, and since the Proto-Strange Death of Alex Raymond is over, I run the Transcript from when I talked to Stee Swenson in July 2020.
  • Tuesday: Jen is gone. (Being a globetrottin' adventuress isn't the easy gig Doc Savage stories led her to believe it was...) So I step in to help raise funds on The Strange Death of Alex Raymond GoFundMe, by running the transcript to that time I talked to Carson in July 2020. She says the winner of the LAST Raffle is:
    Don't faint.
    We have a winner!
    Philip Berkheimer Jr.
I popped my items to him in the post yesterday.

Between $1 and $200 until page 117 of Dave's POST-Carson SDOAR mock-up pages unlocks (I think it's $110, I don't know the math....). AND GoFundMe has a MONTHLY option now, so you can schedule a reoccurring donation.
  • Wednesday: Hobbs has photos of the Varkdalorian Trading Cards. And Cerebus in Hell? has an Instagram. You may wish to follow along (there are plans...)
  • Thursday: Margaret has posted ALL of Albatross One. (If you click that link, you can see all the pages of the notebook, OR, you can get a PHYSICAL copy here.) And all of The Last Notebook. Now she's gonna burn through all of Notebook #21. So sit back and get ready for pages and pages and pages of walls of handwritten text...
  • Friday: that's this post. You're reading the Friday post right now. This is STILL like that bit in Spaceballs. (Should I link to LAST WEEK'S Update in these things?)

Okay, so that was the past week in AMOC. You're welcome.

Our pals at Living The Line are getting it from "Diamond" (Or Whoever Owns Them Now):
Legal trouble. Lost inventory. But great books keep coming.
Hello everyone—

It’s been a wild few weeks at Living the Line HQ here in Saint Paul.

If you follow comics industry news, you may already know that our former distributor, Diamond Comics, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganization in January. Then, on May 16th, they were sold! End of problem, right?

Not only have we not been paid for any book sales since that sale closed… We've been refused access to our consignment inventory—books that legally belong to us and were merely stored in Diamond's warehouse.

Worse yet, they’ve now petitioned the bankruptcy court to sell that consignment inventory—including our books—without our consent.

This means we haven't been paid for books already sold, and we’re at risk of losing the rest of our inventory in their possession. For a small publisher, that’s an existential blow.

But we’re not taking this lying down.

Living the Line, alongside several other trusted publishers, has retained legal counsel and formally objected to this maneuver. We’re fighting for our rights in bankruptcy court. But legal battles, even righteous ones, are expensive, and we could use your help.

How You Can Help Right Now
1. Preorder My Gorilla Family (Iijima Ichiro)
Our September release is live! My Gorilla Family, sure to be one of the wildest books of 2025, will see wide release the first week of September.

Order direct from us (ships from St. Paul): https://livingtheline.company.site/products

Order through your local comic shop via Lunar Distribution: https://www.lunardistribution.com/home/search?term=My+Gorilla+Family
(We’re temporarily listed under our friends at Uncivilized Books — be sure to request it!)
2. Watch for Our New Book-Trade Distributor (Announcement Soon)
We’re onboarding with a new distributor for the wider book market. First out of the gate: reprints of UFO Mushroom Invasion (2024 American Manga Award Nominee, Best New Edition of Classic Manga) and MANSECT (2025 Nominee for the same category!). Sign up for announcements here: https://www.livingthelinebooks.com/mailing-list
3. Grab a Backlist Title Direct
Most of our inventory is frozen in the Diamond warehouse, but we have limited quantities of many titles on hand in Saint Paul ready to ship in 1–2 business days while supplies last. Browse what’s physically in stock here, including our much-beloved science fiction titles by Brandon Graham, Xurxo G. Penalta, Matt Battaglia, and Miel Vandepitte, and the stunning psychological fiction of Erik Kriek: https://livingtheline.company.site/products
4. Spread the Word
Know someone who digs beautiful, strange, unclassifiable graphic novels & manga? Please forward this email, share a link, or talk to your local shop. Every order and every share helps.
A Few of the Books We’re Fighting For
MANSECT — Koga Shinichi
Order MANSECT direct: https://livingtheline.company.site/products

FACE MEAT — Bonten Tarō
Order FACE MEAT direct: https://livingtheline.company.site/products

Thank you for reading, for caring about independent publishing, and for helping us fight the good (and occasionally slimy, mushroom-ridden) fight. We literally couldn’t do this without you.

With appreciation,
Sean Michael Robinson

The Mocker--Steve Ditko--a true hero (Dave's weekly update #590)

Hi, Everybody!

Like it says on the Logo:
The little bit on the bottom there...

It's Friday, so that means:
Dave's Weekly Update:

But THAT'S not the big Update this week:
Hi Matt,

Here is the big news from Dave. Dave's landline is NOT working right now. His phone and fax machine do NOT work either. I have tried calling him and leaving a message, but he does not get the message and he has no dial tone either.

Bell Canada is upgrading the old wiring system in his neighbourhood and older homes with the older wiring will be affected (Dave is one of those houses), however it might not fix Dave's phone and fax problems. He is waiting to see on a week by week basis to see if the landline works again or not.

*** Any messages that you need to send to Dave, please send them to SCP and tell them to print it out for Dave. I will pick up the printed-out messages from SCP and give them to Dave. ***
So, unless something changes, next month's Please Hold will be done entirely in semaphore.

A Moment of Cerebus runs Saturday through Friday.

The Week in AMOC:
  • Saturday: Please Hold For Dave Sim 5/2025...PART 1!
  • Sunday: Please Hold For Dave Sim 5/2025...PART 2!
  • MondayThe Monday Report, and Dave's answer to the question we missed in Please Hold For Dave Sim 5/2025 and NOT PART 3 (See, the Audio was like four and half HOURS and I had a funeral to go to, my wife wanted to spend time with me, and it was FOUR AND A HALF HOURS of audio I had to edit into (so far) sixteen different videos. (I'm not done yet, I think there's at least two more to go. I'm working on them as soon as I finish this...))
  • Tuesday: Jen's posted all the Dave and Carson pages of The Strange Death of Alex Raymond, and has moved on to the mock-ups Dave produced after that. Donate to The Strange Death of Alex Raymond GoFundMe to see Dave's mock-ups for the next 400 pages (eventually). $150 until page 113 of Dave's POST-Carson SDOAR mock-up pages unlocks. AND GoFundMe has a MONTHLY option now, so you can schedule a reoccurring donation. And AND, Birdsong has donated a Carson Grubaugh original SDOAR painting (it was gonna be a cover for an early version.) Jen has all "the deets".
  • Wednesday: Hobbs posts the next three of nine trading cards that will be offered for the next Kickstarter. Dave would like to know if it's TOO SOON for the next KS to launch? Thoughts party people?
  • Thursday: Margaret's IS done with Albatross One. If you click that link, you can see all the pages of the notebook, OR, you can get a PHYSICAL copy here, anyway not knowing where to head next, Margaret has decided to go with the LAST notebook, from page one to the end. Currently: Issue #294-296. And she also shows some tracing papers from her collection *psst Jen: HEIST!*.
  • Friday: that's this post. You're reading the Friday post right now. This is STILL like that bit in Spaceballs. (Should I link to LAST WEEK'S Update in these things?)
Okay, so that was the past week in AMOC. You're welcome.

Rigamarole:
THINGS ARE TOUGH ALL OVER: It seems like EVERYBODY has a crowd funding campaign type thing going on:
Friend to the Blog, Steve Peters has launched his latest campaign: Comicverse #6. He's got all sorts of neat stuff on offer, some of it from previous campaigns, meaning "there's Dave Art in them there add-ons!" I dunno, click around and see what he's offering. The campaign has met it's goal, but he followed KickStarter's advice and lowballed that. So more money would mean he doesn't lose money on the deal.

I'm selling bootleg Cerebus trading cards featuring my art, coloring by Hobbs, and unused art of MY characters by Dave. $10 a set for 11 cards plus TWO HANDDRAWN cards (by me). Email momentofcerebus@gmail.com and I'll explain how to pay.

The Help Out Bill Messner-Loebs Go Fund Me, or buy Rodney Schroeter's book with proceeds going to Bill. More on this as I'm allowed to post stuff...

Our very own Jen DiGiacomo is part of a film production titled The Day Elvis Died. She'll never ask anybody here, but they're crowdfunding to finish the post production on the movie. (It's set in 1977, will a certain obscure Canadian cartoon aardvark make a cameo? (No. Elvis died in August. Cerebus wasn't published until December. Any appearance in the flick would be an anachronism that would ruin the movie for everybody. EVERYBODY!).)

The current thinking is that CAN12/The Varkdalorian will launch in June. Dave has ideas, more on this as I figure out what the hell Sim is planning...

Steve Ditko at Charlton Comics (Dave's weekly update #524)

Hi, Everybody!

New format! Like it says on the Logo:
Have I been doing the "new" format for a month already?

It's Friday, so that means:
Dave's Weekly Update:
Steve Peters new Kickstarter ended yesterday. At the last minute, Steve added TWO Dave Sim variants. The second of which Dave mocked up:
And explained:

Anyway, Steve said:
Thanks to all the backers for making this project a huge success! Dave Sim was certainly the MVP here; I approached him with 3 days to go for suggestions on how to revive the project, which had been dragging along for weeks, and his help really breathed new life into it.

I realize that his two covers were late additions (it was very much a Hail Mary play to save the campaign), and some of you may have missed out on them. If anyone is interested in getting the signed Dave Sim Ghosts of Rabbit Hell variant cover and/or the Cerebus Akimbo Love and Rabbits variant, drop me a line at awakeningcomics@gmail.com and we'll figure something out.

As for the winner of the Cerebus Akimbo Love and Rabbits variant original art, it was Christon Hunwardsen with a very generous pledge. Thanks, Christon!
Now, that's for people who ALREADY backed the Kickstarter, but I'm sure if you REALLY want one, you could email Steve and say something like, "I missed out on this, even though Matt Dow posted the link to the Kickstarter day after day after day for pretty much the whole campaign, is there any way I could get one or both of these? I'm a HUGE Dave Sim completist with poor reading skills who doesn't obsessively check A Moment of Cerebus like I probably should be. Help me Stevi-Wan Peteobi, you're my only hope..." and maybe he'll hook you up. Why, I bet if you say EXACTLY that, and only that, he'll hook you up. In fact I'm gonna tell him to ONLY hook up people who say EXACTLY that...

You can read Akimbo here, if you wanna see if it's your cup o' tea. And CAN10 is the next Cerebus Archive Portfolio (you can get the first nine at the link.)

And I know the Cerebus fans Down Under get soaked on shipping, but here's a Dave Sim related Kickstarter where the North Americans get screwed: Greener Pastures #8 "What's  Greener Pastures #8? And how does it relate to Dave Sim?" I hear you ask. Well Here's a hint:
That's Dave's Bio for the Kickstarter.

And since the topic is Kickstarters, Living the Line has a new one: TIHKU!

Okay, back to Bizness as unusual:

  • Wednesday: Hobbs shared an outake from AKIMBO while promoting the Kickstarter like there's no tomorrow. Speaking of which, the Original Art for one of the covers is up at Heritage.

And while you're frantically checking CerebusOverload.com so you can beat those other bastards to all the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #8 goodies (There's a slabbed one at Heritage...), you should send them any High Resolution scans you have of any original art cards you might have snagged from Dave. Use this form. It SUPER weird, because I dreamt about him last night...

Hi, Everybody!

First: I got mail!

A little package from "Dave Sim P.O. Box 1674 Station C Kitchener, ON, Canada N2G 4R2", and inside WASN'T my copies of Pieces of Turtles 8 and the Remastered Cerebus #4.

It was this:

But not just a Remastered Cerebus Guide to Self-Publishing, but Seiler's Cerebus Guide to Self-Publishing:

Which means Steve wanted Dave to send it to me.

So thank you Steve.
And thank you Dave.

I'm gonna keep it with the Swords of Cerebus in Hell? volume 8 that was Jeff's contributor copy that  Hobbs sent me since Jeff is an Ex-Cerebus fan.

ALSO:
Dave faxed:

AND:

The Waverly Press has an Instagram. And will be posting updates and teasers for upcoming projects with Dave. Like the 1982 Tour book.

So does Carson. He and Sean got the YouTubes too. Order their book The Abolition of Man #1. Hey look they got a second one: The Abolition of Man #2!

Eddie doesn't have an Instagram OR a YouTube. But he's got his Strange Death of Alex Raymond annotations. (I mean, I assume. Maybe he's ALL over the 'gram and just not telling me...)

Heritage has pages from Cerebus #1 (like, has the WHOLE issue's original art hit the block recently?!?). And a whole heap of other neat stuff.
