So it occurred to me, that the amount on the check Dave sent me for my work on Amazing Batvark #1, was bigger than the amount Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster got for Superman in 1938.

Which makes me sad and depressed, because I shouldn't have gotten MORE than Siegel and Shuster for suggesting a cover and writing the IFC. They made Superman for @#$%s sake...
The only reason I noticed was that Friend to the Blog (and star of Steve Peters Week 3-D (coming soon(?))) Steve Peters shared on the FaceItBooks an article about how Ed Brubaker makes more for the cameo he had in Captain America: The Winter Soldier than he does from creating the character of the Winter Soldier.
Which got me to thinking about how Marvel and DC have a history of screwing over their creators that stretches back about eighty-three years.

THE HIGH SOCIETY REGENCY EDITION GIANT PRINTS the color (it was done in San Francisco, so no "u") is absolutely amazing in person. Even with "mood lighting" at Camp David and hitting it with the video camera's flash almost head on, you only get a fraction of the intensity of the colors. Not to mention the extremely rich texture of the photographic paper (I TOLD you not to MENTION that!). Dagon says Mr. Hoffman is one of the best photo printers in the U.S. and I believe it. They came in about ten minutes after Mike left. All signed and ready to ship to North Carolina!

Another Hot Canadian Price Variant (Dave's Weekly Update #381)

So, on Margaret's post yesterday, "Anonymous" commented:
Margaret is the only reason for AMOC to keep going. The rest of it is trash.And I was a tad...perturbed when I read it this morning. (I get all the comments emailed to me. Because I'm a masochist...)
My first reaction was "Ok, I just won't post for a week and see how he/she/they like it."
But I can't do that, it'd be unfair to the vocal minority who LIKE my bull$#!*.
Then I thought, "Ok, I'll make mention of Anonymous' comment and let the usual gang of well wishers tell me how great I am."
But I'm not doing THAT, because I don't need my ego stroked that bad...
And my third reaction was to take stock and remember that there's something that nobody can take away from me:
Mainly, that I've sold more paintings in my lifetime than Vincent Van Gogh did. He sold one (possibly two) and I've sold three! (Thanks to Larry, Margaret and Scott!)
So, with that in mind, I've decided to do another A Moment of Cerebus Contest!
Here's the deal:
- Create a "meme" of how terrible A Moment of Cerebus is (specifically under my "Rein of Terror"). Like this:
As an example... - Email it to thevarkwars@gmail.com, NOT the regular momentofcerebus@gmail.com.
- I, and my team of unwitting volunteers (come on Mags, you know you wanna be a judge...) will pick a grand prize winner, and three runners-up.
- What does the "Grand Prize Winner" get? An 8"x8" painting of any image from Cerebus painted by me. Like these:
AND, one copy of every CiH? book I've got in the AMOChive: Vark Wars, Vark Wars: Walt's Empire Strikes Back, Batvark: PENIS, Batvark: PENIS (Virgin), Hermann, Hermann (HRM Edition), Spider-Whore, CiH? 2021 the misprint, CiH? 2021 the right version, and anything else I find in there. All signed by me, or "slab-able" (except Walt's Empire, that's signed by Dave already...)
AND a copy of High Society 12th printing with a "The Hell it's yours" Cerebus bookplate, signed by Dave Sim, and hand-lettered with your name by me.
5. The runners up get an 8"x8" painting and MY pick of ONE of the CiH? books.
6. Contest is open to everybody. Even the Judges. (What? My Contest my rules.)
7. Contest ends the on the 30th of March, Winner announced on the April 2020 Please Hold For Dave Sim. (Is Dave a judge? Maybe... (I ain't asked him yet...))
8. No limit on submissions, but you can only win once.
9. And if you're artistic and can't use photoshop, drawings/paintings/poems are all acceptable.

This is the update so many of you have been patiently waiting for.
Spawn 10 is printed, bound and going on the truck Friday. The trip from the printer to our office should take about a week which means we expect to start packing your orders next weekend!
The 24 page Spawn 10 supplemental books arrived today and they look even better than expected!

Okay, I TRIED to not "out" Sean as being the guy with the digital files, because I didn't want him getting chased down the street by crazed Cerebus fans like something out of A Hard Day's Night, but Dave got to me. Sean has up to issue #13. So, if you have issues #14-18 and want to scan them and get them to Sean, we want them at 600dpi (minimum) and put a black piece of paper is on the other side of the page to eliminate bleed through. More on this as I hear about it.

Ok. I think I got it. The FAKE bar code on page 26 ( my CAN number ) when I googled the 10 numbers I got ... the REAL bar code for Trojan Magnum Bareskin Lubricated Condoms. I enclosed 2 photos.
Believe it or not, but that FAKE bar code was one of many wacky ideas that were going through my head.
1- the "wink-wink" on the front cover
2-the " approval is an authoritarian construct"
3- Denver vs Cleveland Super Bowl in 1987 ... WHY??
4- dinky
5- all those G.I. words. are they even REAL???
6- I even was looking at Spider-Vark's fingers to see if he was pointing to the "spot"

I'm not a 100% sure what that all means. What I DO KNOW:
- Wilf was the Aardvark/Vanaheim lawyer for years, and during that time his was on the comp list.
- Wilf saved all his copies.
- Dave has signed them, and there's a certificate of authenticity

- All the money goes to the Food Bank of the Waterloo Region

Hi, Dave! Many years ago, you wrote to me about the then-upcoming penultimate Cerebus volume, "Latter Days" (still one of my favorites) that you had considered using the Jacobean spelling of the second word in the title--"Daies". I'm waaay too old to go dig out that letter. So (finally getting around to an interrogative sentence), what made you change your mind?
Did you think it would be too much of a spoiler warning for the back-of-the-book issues of Cerebus reading Genesis in the 1611 version, or did you think it would confuse potential buyers, or was it something else?
Just curious.

Basically, if it's out of print and not a phonebook, you're gonna have to pay to have it scanned and remastered if you want it. Dave's all about getting money into the Aardvark/Vanaheim's coffers.
