It's LIKE Aardvark Comment...

Hi, Everybody!

So Dave's been answering his mail, and sending me faxes, sixty-five pages.

So we're gonna do these today and tomorrow.

But first, unless something major happens, Dave and I will be doing Please Hold For Dave Sim this Thursday. Get your questions in to momentofcerebus@gmail.com

Alright, pretty sure I've violated the "Six Images per post" rule enough.

There's a rigamarole in one of the posts under this one...

Next Time: Monday Report, and more of this.

Gerhard: So long and thanks for all the bricks!

Hi, Everybody!

So Gerhard posted on his blog:
And people have wondered if he means it. So I asked. And he answered:
Gerhard:
Re: Retirement...
Turned 65 and feelin' every inch of it.

I've had it with the Internet; websites, blogs, social media other things that are a total waste of my time.
We've heard that a million monkeys at a million keyboards could produce the complete works of Shakespeare; now, thanks to the Internet, we know that is not true.

I'm looking forward to being 'retired' and keeping well away from the Dreaded Drawing-board of Doom. I can't sit for very long before my legs swell up (not good for drawing), can't stand for very long before my legs swell up (not good for drawing standing up), my doctor told me to lie down with my feet raised (not good for drawing in general), the government is gonna start sending me my Canada Pension and Old Age security (not enough to live on, but it helps), and I finally, and for the first time, caught up on and finished my commission list!

Seems like a good time to step back a bit.

I've had it with sittin' for endless hours at the drawing board struggling through work that I have no interest in doing if it weren't for the money (which is never enough) while my stomach acid erodes my esophagus and my legs swell up.

My favourite line from 'Beetlejuice':
"That is why I won't do two shows a night anymore, babe, I won't."

Also... it's been three years now since my best friend, Tim, died of cancer and another friend, has MSA (multiple system atrophy) similar to Parkinson’s disease but worse. She worked for many decades at the same job, her first full-time job after high school. She started to show symptoms a year or so before her retirement and is now pretty much bed-ridden.

I ain't dyin' at the drawing board, babe... I just won't do it.

Everybody seems to think that I'll never stop drawing but I get no joy out of it anymore and the doctor did tell me to put my feet up.

I'm not sayin' that I'm NEVER gonna draw again,

we'll see how it goes, and then we'll see.

So, mostly, it means I'm just gonna only do things that I REALLY want to do.

Like, for instance, going to OAX 2025!
(Florida is for retired people, right?)

I think I'll get a t-shirt made:

RETIRED GUY
give me my discount!

...and that's all I have to say about that.
-Ger
I mean, can you blame him. Anything he does after THIS is gonna be pretty anticlimactic:

Ninety-nine options (Dave's weekly update #536)

Hi, Everybody!

Like it says on the Logo:

It's Friday, so that means:
Dave's Weekly Update:

Well, let's check in with Ger, and see what he thinks:
Welp, more as I get the info... (ya know, if Dave had CALLED Ger first...)

A Moment of Cerebus runs Saturday through Friday.
The Week in AMOC:
  • Saturday: I got mail! (Part 1) Including an Albatross #1. Here's a handy look at it, and how you can get one.
  • Sunday: Dave sent me a bunch of faxes. Lots of NEW art in this one.
  • Monday: The Monday Report and I got mail! (Part 2) I got the NEW Spawn 10 Lenticular covers from the The Waverly Press. You can click the link and get your own for $100 each.
  • Tuesday: Jen's post about The Strange Death of Alex Raymond Go Fund Me.  Speaking of which, $150 until the next page is unlocked. And she's still working on how to give away an Albatross to one lucky GoFunder. You, yes, YOU! get to vote on the plan she goes with.
  • Wednesday: Hobbs posts that AKIMBO should be in stores. I dunno, I gots mine in the mail through the Kickstarter for Can 10.  Speaking of, the next CiH? book to get that treatment is Narutobus, speaking of: Heritage has stuff. Including Narutobus page 11:
I'm currently winning it for a dollar. If all you jerks with money skip this one, I'll have a SECOND page of original Dave art. Will I win? Cerebus pretty much answers that on this page...
  • Thursday: Margaret continued looking at the first Notebook AKA Albatross 1. See here if you wanna copy.
  • Friday: that's this post. You're reading the Friday post right now. This is like that bit in Spaceballs. (Should I link to LAST WEEK'S Update in these things?)
Okay, so that was the past week in AMOC. You're welcome.

And now, back to Bizness as unusual:

Notebook One: Cerebus #22 Part Four

MARGARET LISS:

A few years ago I scanned all of Dave Sim's notebooks. He had filled 36 notebooks during the years he created the monthly Cerebus series, covering issues #20 to 300, plus the other side items -- like the Epic stories, posters and prints, convention speeches etc. A total of 3,281 notebook pages detailing his creative process. I never really got the time to study the notebooks when I had them. Just did a quick look, scanned them in and sent them back to Dave as soon as possible. So this regular column is a chance for me to look through those scans and highlight some of the more interesting pages.

Have you got your copy of Albatross One? That is Dave Sim’s name for his first notebook used in the creation of Cerebus. If you want a copy of the notebook – and trust me, as someone who has held the actual Albatross One, it is a pretty close duplicate and looks great – you can check out this post right here. Well not this post. The one at this link. Go check it out, this post will still be here.

And if you don’t want to buy one, you can wait as I release a couple of pages a week and check them out using the Notebook One tag. But trust me, the notebook is much much nicer then my silly little posts.

Last week we ended with page 73 – out of 194 pages scanned, so it will take some time to see them all – which had material for Cerebus #22.  So if you’ve been following along with these weekly notebook posts, then yes, page 74 of the notebook is another wall of text for Cerebus #22:

Notebook 1, page 74

All that work naming the different people on the tribunal, and none of that was used. In fact, the only name we get for the tribunal is “Agenda Secretary Nerak”. Nerak spelled backwards is Karen, so perhaps a shout out to Deni’s sister? (Yes, the same sister who married the real life version of Boobah). Dave even wrote out a bunch of dialogue for the tribunal, but nothing on this page was used. Well, almost nothing. Dave used the name LaFort again in Cerebus #58 when he was mentioned by Pope Harmony IV as the ruler of Lower Felda.

The next page of the notebook is more of the same – more text on the Tribunal that shows up for a couple of pages and really doesn’t do anything except yell for the guards to come get the President and his cohorts.

Notebook 1, page 75

Then on the next page we see the numbers – which typically indicates either pages or panels. I’m thinking this is pages due to the note near the bottom by ‘page 12’.

Notebook 1, page 76

More interesting then the text is the numbers at the bottom left of the page. Those numbers is Dave’s calendar: so 10 6 ½ 7 is Dave’s note to himself that on the 10th of the month he’ll do page 6 and ½ of page 7. Then on the 11th he’ll do the final half of page 7 and page 8. All the way to the cover, half of page 19, and page 20 on the 19th of the month and the cover color separations on the 20th. 10 days straight of a page and a half. Sounds like a lot of work!

AKIMBO #1... In stores NOW! PROBABLY!

Benjamin Hobbs:

It's the last Wednesday of the month, and you might recall what that means! It's time to rush over to your LCS and try to explain to them that CIH? WASN'T cancelled.

This month's offering is AKIMBO #1.  Available in both Signed and Unsigned.

Did your LCS receive both versions of AKIMBO?  Let us know in the comments!

Next Week: More CIH? FUN!

SDoAR 2.17: The Flip Berkheimer Variation a.ka. It's Voting Time!

Philip R. Frey said...

"Two more pages done, meaning fifteen out of the twenty-one pages of SDoAR '24 Remastered No. 0 are complete. Those of you with the math skills will see that leaves six to go, or, more accurately, three double-page spreads. (It also sounds like less work that way.) All you other guys supporting the effort can fight over the Albatross. I bought my own..."

Jen responds...

"Thanks, Philip! Speaking of which, let's see what the peanut gallery came up with as options for awarding a copy of Albatross Notebook #1."

Michael Grabowski said...

"Perhaps it can go to a donor who has contributed the most over the life of this iteration of SDOAR funding without actually unlocking any page."

Jen responds...

"Intriguing. For voting purposes, let's call that Option A."

Michael R. said...

"Hmmmmm? Dave picked a winner by the earliest birthday in the year. 😂😂😂"

Jen responds...

"Crafty, but highly suspect. Let's call that Option B."

Margaret said...

"For every dollar someone has donated they get a 'raffle ticket'. Then pick the winner from a hat. Or some other method of randomly picking a raffle ticket number to select the winner. Give people until some random date in the future to get more donations in."

Jen responds...

"Margaret to the rescue. Option C."

Tony Dunlop said...

"What flavour is it?"

Jen responds...

"It's a bird, innit. It's a bloody sea bird . .. it's not any bloody flavor. Albatross!"

Flip Berkheimer said...

"I like where Margaret was going in that it would be good to incentivize more donations. Perhaps instead of weighted raffle ticketing, how about just 1 entry per person donating ($$ amount would not matter). Make this the rub: Only new donations from this date forward will get you an entry. Give people 'X' amount of time to get a donation in before the raffle."

Jen responds...

"The Flip Berkheimer Variation! I'm calling that Option D."

Now here it is, Sports Fans! Your time to vote for Option A, B, C or D. Then we'll kick off the contest starting next week!
