A Friendly Reminder...
Just a brief reminder that you have roughly 680 hours (from the time some mysterious CIH? team member is typing this) to get yer mitts on some sweet, sweet Cerebus In Hell? gear. Whenever David Birdsong gets up on August 30th he's throwing everything out and replacing it with something else. There will no longer be a vast array of items to overwhelm the shopper, just a few simple choices. Have a great weekend everybody!

Agents of Facebook (Dave's Weekly Update #297)/C + S II ... almost there!/ Help Wanted/Who the sweet @#$% is running this $#!* show?!?
Hi, Everybody!
Heeeeeere's...Sean?
What the fuck?
_______________________
Sean Michael Robinson:Hello friends!
Welp, the race against time to get C + S II to the printers in its best form possible continues!
To that end—
1. Does anyone out there (comic shop owner) have a copy of the most recent C + S II printing? According to a certain Cerebus super-fan named Nat, it is most likely the tenth printing. If you DO have such a mythical item, what is the DATE listed next to the printing on the indicia?
2. We still need your bookplate image suggestions! Any ideas welcome—post them here and I'll round up all the ideas and send them to Dave for his evaluation!
Now, off to address Dave's faxed C +S II notes! More on this next week. Now get out there to your local comic store and order a good dozen copies of C + S II and Jaka's Story!

If look at the AMOC sidebar you'll see that we've added a link to the ordering information for COLOUR YOUR OWN CEREBUS IN HELL? If you click on any of those cover images you will link to Diamond's Preview page for that issue. We encourage anyone that wants to share the links to do so, but we are now looking for an Official Twitter and Facebook Linker. (Hey, we just invented that!). The idea is that the day David Birdsong updates the AMOC sidebar he will also send a clickable link to the volunteer(s). You can do one or you can do both. All we ask is that you are willing to add the link for each new issue as it comes out as soon as you can to give everyone looking for information on the new issues as much time as possible to alert their LCS and get their hands on the latest CIH? issues. All you need is an email and an addiction... errrr an account at Twitter and/or Facebook. The job pays tremendous satisfaction, inclusion in an ever-shrinking circle of Dave Sim fans and the heartfelt thanks of the entire team (and Dave might say your name on one of the Weekly Updates). Man, how can anyone turn that down?
Please send your resume (well, maybe just say you'll do) it to: cerebusinhell@gmail.com
(this is NOT Dave's email [Dave has no email and will probably not have email ever], please do not send messages to Dave there.)
Thanks from Dave, Sean, Benjamin & David
(Stay tuned for Dave's Weekly Update later today!)
UPDATE: Three cheers for Brian W. who is now the "Agent Of Twitter". Facebook is still open for anyone that wants to jump onboard. Thanks, Brian!

Dave's birthday wrap (Dave's Weekly Update #290)
Hi, Everybody!
Heeeeeere's Dave:
Heeeeeere's Dave:
Problems viewing this video? Watch directly on YouTube...
The remastered Volume 1 is available digitally for $9.99.
If you want to look like Dave (you're sick, I mean, trying not to be judgey, but come on...) Uh, I mean, if you want a T-SHIRT like Dave's (and mine, I wear mine every month when I Please Hold For Dave Sim,) you can buy one right here. Or, if you're one of those nostalgia buffs who likes the earlier funnier A Moment Of Cerebus posts, the Tim W. Logo is available too. (Word of warning, Your Pal, and Mine: Sean Robinson told me that that image wasn't designed for printing, and it's gonna have a moire, and Boy-Howdy, he was right. If ever I put the NEW logo on something, it'll look ten times as classy...)
In case you forgot what my Card to Dave looked like:
I believe it was Mike Battaglia, who has a go fund me here, who asked if Dave was gonna auction off the Please Hold For Dave Sim strips. Well, now you know. He is. Starting with this one:
So, let's just do this like we did with the Green Dante/Green Virgil cover. Post your bid in the comments, and we'll see if Dave can get one percent of what he got for that.
And at Dave's request:

TMI about this Please Hold Strip:
April? That was back when the kids still had Dance Class. So this was drawn on a clipboard in the waiting area. I may have finished it up at home at the dining room table. My Drawing "table" has been just sitting in the corner of the AMOC Cave (located beneath Stately Dow Manor) collecting dust and judging me. "Hey! You were a display for carpeting when I bought you, and you can go RIGHT BACK TO THE LUMBERYARD, YOU JUDGMENTAL PIECE OF FURNITURE!!!"
Um, as with most Iguana VS Beer (the technical title of their adventures) strips, the idea probably came to me at work.
Beer's "hot chicks" gag is a rip-off of a T-Shirt Hell shirt.
The basic premise to the characters, is that Iguana is a lovable idiot, and Beer is a despicable idiot.
So, Beer will say pretty much anything, and it will be fairly horrible.
Example Beer exchanges:

| Watch this in panel four. And, yes, I messed up the lyrics, but uh...it was on purpose. Yeah, that's the ticket, I messed 'em up, because, because...I didn't want to get sued! That's right, I didn't want to get sued. We live in an overly litigious society, and I figured the copyright holder to the Speed Racer Theme song patrols sites like this looking for blatant copyright violations. Yeah, that's what happened. Sure it is. I was worried about getting sued. It wasn't that my friend called as I was working on the card and I can't letter while carrying on a conversation, no. Not at all. It's because I didn't want to get sued. Yeah, that's right... |

The basic premise to the characters, is that Iguana is a lovable idiot, and Beer is a despicable idiot.
So, Beer will say pretty much anything, and it will be fairly horrible.
Example Beer exchanges:
Hippy: MEAT IS MURDER!
Beer: Yes, yes it is. Does anybody know where I can get some murder, preferably with french fries and a Coke?
Announcer: Gentlemen, choose your weapons!
Iguana: Neutron bombs!
Beer: Time machine and a coat hanger!
I can't remember my psychology class from twenty some years ago, but I think Beer is all Id(?) I think it's the Id.
Iguana's reaction is pretty much what any rationale person would do, given Beer's statement.
I did fuck up the panel layout, and it bugs me to no end.
Iguana magically gets closer in panel two, and even closer in panel three. Panel four he's farther away, but not as far as he was in panel one. Gah! And now you, (you future owner of this wonderful piece of art, you) see it too. (And you'll never not see it. Especially if you pony up and buy this lil' beauty and hang it in your bathroom.)
I don't particularly like the Iguana in panel one. I like the ones in panels two and three better. When I draw Iguana, I try to picture him as a Muppet, more than as a cartoon. So big round ball with two little balls for the eyes. I actually have printed out instructions to build my own Muppet, so one day...
I mean, it's a neat little five panel gag. It's not the best strip I've ever drawn, but it's not the worst either.

Cerebus in Hell?: The T-Shirt
Hi, Everybody!
The Postcard Kickstarter was funded on Saturday. Dave and the guys made $1900 (US) from 90 backers. #Winning!
Jeff Seiler is winning the Green Dante/Green Virgil Cover for $1300 (US)! If you want in on this action, just comment on this post, or e-mail momentofcerebus@gmail.com As Dave said, the auction ends on Friday at Midnight (CDT). To prevent douchebaggery, I'm limiting the bidding to WHOLE US Dollars, in FIVE DOLLAR INCREMENTS. So if you wanna make Seiler lose his faith in humanity, you gotta come up with at least thirteen hundred and FIVE bucks (US). After the deadline, I'll contact the winner and figure out how we're getting Dave his money. (Seiler suggested that the increase should be in FIFTY dollar increments, and as much as I wanna get Dave mo' money, I was trying to eliminate the one penny douches...)
The remastered Volume 1 is available digitally for $9.99.
If you got a couple of extra bucks and want to do a fellow Cerebus fan a solid, frequent commentator Mike Battaglia has a go fund me here.
Friend to the Blog, and the Cardashian Kardasian Cassian Cassidy: Steve Peters has another Kickstarter going. (I have a joke in one panel.)

Who wants Cerebus T-Shirts?
Hi, Everybody!
Two days, Comiclink, Auctions, Dave Sim signed...stuff. Bring all your money.
And then...
Actually, we need to talk.
As Dave mentioned in the Weekly Update, I got a message at momentofcerebus@gmail.com, (This one in fact:)
Hello.I responded to David (nope, this hasn't got confusing yet,) asking what images he wanted. He said he wasn't entirely sure, but the cover to Church & State II was on his shortlist.
I'm wanting several Cerebus images printed on apparel.
I didn't want to just take Dave's work from off of the internet and pay
some other company to do it.
Is there any such official service where the money would go to the creator
at least in part?
I don't entirely know what to look for or expect to be honest.
Regards,
David M.
NOW, I set-up the "official" webstore of A Moment of Cerebus to kinda test the waters on how well Cafepress does printing shirts and stuff (I haven't ordered anything yet, but I'll let everyone know how awesome or not it is.)
This was Phase One.
Phase Two is, if there is interest, I say, "IF there is interest", setting up a webstore to sell Cerebus shirts.
This would either be:
A: art from the series being put on shirts for the first time (Church & State II cover, etc.)
OR:
B: Images that have been on shirts, but are out of print. So stuff like:
![]() |
| The Campaign '93 shirt |
| The Elrod shirt |
![]() |
| The Jaka's Story shirt |
The idea would be that I'd update the shirts with "copyright 2018 Dave Sim" (or whatever year, 2019, 2020,) and they would be sold as: "Official" Bootleg T-shirts.
I'd make NO claim that they weren't anything other than Bootlegs. Stuff that's IN PRINT, like Cerebus For Dictator and He Doesn't Love You... that are available from Graphitti Designs, or the Cerebus in Chains shirt, wouldn't get bootlegged.
And I'd only keep enough of the money to cover my tax burden (I don't know how much that'll be, but I can't imagine it'd be THAT much,) with the rest going to Dave.
I know Dave's not a fan of Merchendise, but I think this might be "doable".
OR:
People could just donate on CerebusDownloads.com like Dave wants.
Sound of in the comments (PLEASE I NEED input on this)
Next Time: Ben Hobbs with HIS pitch to get all your money...

Reading Cerebus #22: Issue 19
Hi, Everybody!
Right!
First, Thursday, June 7th Comiclink. You. Dave Sim. All your money.
Second, speaking of T-Shirts, I've set up a webstore for A Moment of Cerebus, where you can get the New AMOC logo on all sorts of stuff.
Two Sides To Every Story
While Cerebus impatiently waits for his spoils to be totaled up, Lord Gorce sets about building an army to take Fluroc back from Cerebus and the T'Gitans. He quickly cuts a deal to gain the support of the armies of Seaf in exchange for favors to be granted after Gorce unseats Lord Julius as the leader of Palnu.
With this bit of dirty work accomplished, Gorce then sends the word out to double the pay of those who swear exclusive loyalty to him, while those who remain loyal to Commander Sarte are to be executed. Something wicked this way comes!
Henrot proceeds to explain how "Geet-a" (Borealan for "She-Of-The-Foul-Mouth-And- Dynamite-Knockers") came to be a surrogate for his daughter, but soon became a guard dog that even he lost control of.
Cerebus' anger winds up being the key to his escape as he concocts a plan escape using Henrot's Gerbies against Geet-a, but before his escape he needs that damn owl, the one Henrot melted down a long time ago. As a favor to Cerebus, Henrot fashions a temporary owl, which will cease to exist in six months, more than enough time for Cerebus to get what he needs from it.
Final Thoughts
There is a cool use of duality throughout this issue's story. We get the two commanders trying to each raise forces in an escalating conflict. We get Red Sophia's "sister". We get twin owls.
These long form story issues are really hitting home with me as we are seeing more world building and character development which was mostly absent in the early stand alone stories. It really feels like Dave has hit his stride in creating his opus.
Join me back here next week as I take a look at issue 20, "Mind Games".

Right here. All profits get split 50/25/25 between Dave, Ben, and me (I'm only keeping a quarter to cover paying the tax man.)
Just imagine how groovy you'll look at the San Diego Comic Con, or S.P.A.C.E., or your niece's bat mitzva in an "official" A Moment of Cerebus T-Shirt. ("Who the fug is Matt D?" "What the fug's a 'Cerebus'?" "Really Jeff? What the fug is wrong with you? What part of 'black tie' was unclear?" It'll be great.)
And there'll be a "retro" "Tim W's A Moment of Cerebus" shirt coming for all of you who like "the earlier, funnier" AMOC and want everybody to know. (Tim has graciously said that he wants his quarter of the profits to go to Dave. Because he's a gentleman, and better than me...)
Third, "Hey kids! What time is it?"
"Aw shit! It's Reading Cerebus time!"

Kevin Kimmes:
Welcome back to “Reading Cerebus”, a some-what new (mostly) weekly column here at A Moment of Cerebus. The goal of this column is to bring a fresh perspective to the 300-issue saga of Cerebus as I read through the series for the first time and give my insights into the longest running independent comic book series of all time. Think of this as part book club, part lit-crit, and part pop culture musing. Let’s continue.

With the merchants baubles now safely in Cerebus possession, Cerebus and Graus head to Togith to see how many warriors their 100 pounds of jewelry will buy them. However, it doesn't take long for Graus to become more of a liability than an asset as he is drawn in by a fortune teller, who it is implied is turning tricks on the side.

If You Know What It's Worth Then There's No Fun In Cheating You
Finally sitting down with the Duke of Agerden, Cerebus finds out that most of the jewelry is worthless in trading for troops due to a glut of jewelry in the market and troops trading at a surplus:
"Everyone...I mean everyone...seems to be having a war right now..."

One piece, however, does have some value: the owl seen in last issue. As we find out it has a twin and would command a sum of money if sold as a pair. The twin idol resides with a Master Hortne who lives in the basement of The Brugel Arms Tavern. Two problems: Everyone who has entered Hortne's residence in the past few weeks hasn't returned, and Hortne isn't who he claims to be.
You Again
Gathering the required armaments and placing a 20:1 bet on himself, Cerebus enters the gloom only to encounter...Red Sophia? Locked in deadly combat, Cerebus quickly notices a door in the distance and uses it to break from the conflict before him. Behind that door he finds "Hortne" who is actually none other than Sophia's father, Henrot (see, Dave mixed up the letters, a technique that will be used countless times in future creative efforts such as the use of "Nilbog" in Troll 2).

With the quest at hand complete, Cerebus goes to retrieve his and Graus' packs from the fortune teller, but the fortune teller has other plans. The issue ends with Cerebus out cold and Graus in possession of a note to bring to Gudre. Good night, sweet earth-pig, good night.

Hi, Everybody!
What kind of Aardvark related merch do we have today?
The Cerebus In Chains T-shirt :
Did you buy your Cerebus Archive #7: Flight? (Just how long can I flog that horse? Stay tuned and we'll see...)
You didn't?
Well sucks for you... Uh, I mean, "Gee that's too bad. Don't worry, I'm sure there will be a mass market version available through Diamond at some point."
But, you say, "Christmas is coming, if I don't have something Cerebus related under my tree I'll JUST DIE!!!"
Dang you're melodramatic...
But don't worry, your friends here at A Moment Of Cerebus have got you covered.
How?
"Merchandising! Merchandising, where the REAL money from the movie is made." Mel Brooks as Yogurt in Spaceballs: The Movie (1987)That's right! Merchandising!

Cerebus...IN CHAINS
I believe Dave was giving these out back in the day. I think Margaret got one. And "super-duper" L nny Cooper (in fact I think all three of the moderators of the Yahoo Cerebus group got them...)
(Although I'm a little concerned by the "copyright 2008 Poetic License Printing" on there. Seems fishy to me... I think it should be "copyright 2008 Dave Sim" or "Aardvark-Vanaheim". But that's just me and how I roll...)
"Gee Matt, that sure is spiffy, how ever can I obtain one of these beauties?"
Well I'm glad you asked A Moment Of Cerebus reader, you can get one right here.
"Thanks Matt! You sure are one nice and handsome fellow. Any girl would be lucky to have you in her life."
Yes, yes, she would.
"Wanna get a drink sometime?"
Your getting creepy A Moment Of Cerebus reader, you're getting creepy...
