Notebook 29: Walls of Text? Oh, Come On. . .

Dave Sim’s “Notebook #29” contains materials used for Cerebus #240 to #250. The notebook started out as a 300-page notebook broken up into three sections, and only 150 pages were scanned: section 1 had 63 pages scanned, section 2 had 65 pages scanned, and section 3 had 22 pages scanned. There were only 11 pages missing, and the rest were blank. We’ll be looking at this notebook page by page until we’ve seen all there is to see. To see past posts, please use the Notebook #29 tag.

After months (years?) of looking at the “walls of text” in Dave’s 21st notebook, I decided to look at notebook #29. I like the material contained in it and I knew – we know as we’ve seen it – there is some great artwork, basically pages that just needed Gerhard’s background to be completed – and I was done with the walls of text.

Done.

Well jokes on me. Two walls of text. Not by Viktor Davis, but by F. Stop Kennedy. And they are entertaining. Well, to me that is. I could read a full novel by F. Stop Kennedy about Jay Anthony Diver and Ginevra.

The first page we’re seeing is page 4 of the notebook and the text on it is for F. Stop’s novel – help me out here fellow Cerebites, I can’t remember if the novel name is on the left page or the right page. So it is either Pleasure’s Simple Life or Perfect Strangers. I think it is Pleasure’s Simple Life. Or perhaps I’m just stoned, don’t tell boss man I do this stoned, he might give me a second day – Pleasure’s Simple Life. It appears as is on page 170 of Going Home, aka page 4 from Cerebus #240. And that is what it appears between in the notebook, the art for page #3 and page #5.

Notebook #29, page 4

The next full text page is page 11. It appears on page #177 of Going Home (page 11 of Cerebus #240). Note that on the finished page we see the text at the top of the page ‘Perfect Strangers’ and the page number is 11.

Notebook #29, page 11

On the notebook it is labeled Pleasure’s Simple Life and has the page number 20. The text however, is exactly the same.
