"HEY ROCKY! Watch me pull a rabbit out of my hat!"

Hi, Everybody!

Did you get your $79 (Canadian) Dollar Remarqued The Last Day yesterday? No? Well, they're $99 Canadian now. (Don't worry my swarthy foreign friends, I'ma ask Dave if you guys can have a $20 discount when he FINALLY decides to sell internationally. *Promise.*)

Somebody wanted to see Dave do the Remarque at regular speed, so I made a video of that. You can click here to watch it (I've been embedding videos so much lately, I'm gonna take a break...) (It takes Dave about 15 and a half minutes btw.)

Speaking of Dave, I'm speaking to Dave on Thursday. I'll speak to him on your behalf if you have questions/comments/complaints/dirty jokes you want me to send up to him. Just email your whatevers to momentofcerebus@gmail.com by Wednesday night around 8PM CST, when I send the fax.)

Anyway, anybody remember when Dave would auction stuff on AMOC in the comments? And it was kinda a headache and a bit of a pain in the ass? "HEY ROCKY! Watch me pull a rabbit out of my hat!"

As I say, "AGAIN!?! THAT trick NEVER works!"

But, I'll try and help Grandpaw anyway I can. More details as they come down the pike...
The "Reign of Terror" started Tuesday, 14 November 2017.

The Last Day Remarque First Day for The Last Day sale ends in about two hours.

Hi, Everybody!

The First Day for the Last Day sale ends at 11:59PM Eastern Time (10:59 here in the Central Time Zone.) About two hours from now. Over at CerebusDownload.com. $79 Canadian Dollars ($57.85 USD).

At Midnight Eastern, 11PM here, 9PM Eddie's time. Shrove Tuesday on the other side of the world (time zones ARE weird man...), the price goes up to $99 Canadian ($72.50 USD).

Points from the comments on yesterday's post that need clearing up:
Steve asked:
Hmmm..

Did Gerhard do some traveling to sign these, or sign unbound covers, or what?

The minutia police wanna know, don't you know!

Steve
I said that I'd ask Dave for Please Hold For Dave Sim 5/2023 which (God willing and the creek don't rise) we'll be recording this upcoming Thursday, May 4th. Get your questions in to momentofcerebus@gmail.com by Wednesday night when I send the fax...

Anyway, Gerhard dropped a line to let me know:
Hi Matt,

Hope you and yours are doing well.

I have noticed that there is an inordinate (two people) amount of interest in how/why I came to sign the LastForm&VoidDay edition.

(I would post a comment on Facebook or AMOC , but I don't want to. If anyone has a question for or about me, they don't have to wait for special "phone-in" show or have to have a fax machine; they can reach me at gerzmail@yahoo.ca.)

Here's the incredibly uninteresting answer:

I was already going into Studiocomix Press to sign my bookplates for the Waverly Press edition of The Last Day.

Alfonso called to say that they were ready. He also told me that Aardvark-Vanaheim would pay me to sign some books while I was there.
I said, 'sure'.

Wow. No wonder nobody writes.

Good man that Gerhard. With a battalion like him we could conquer the daiquiri bar at that little place on the beach Seiler talked about a lot. YOU can also ask Ger TO HIS FACE, any little thing you wanna know next weekend. (As long as you're in Indiana. 'cause that's where his face will be. (Along with the rest of him. And Shelley. And art prints and such. Sounds like a good time. Infinitely better than spending the weekend editing videos of my phone call to Dave... What?)

Richard P said:
Pesky wierdo from an non-real country here. So we have to wait, to (maybe) get the chance, to pay non-first day prices, in addition to the privilege of having to suffer over the top postage costs.

Is this a jumping off point? Should I streamline my A-V ordering process to the zero cost option? Shame since I date back to first edition High Society phonebook.

Probably not but.....
I said: I just don't think Dave is there mentally yet. Once he knows that domestic sales are working the way he wants, he'll turn to the all the folks in the sunny vacation spots. I'm going to suggest a "foreign First Day" price to him, for when he gets to that point. (Maybe a First Day for The Last Day weekend because of Time Zones and some of you living in Next Week Tuesday...)

Which is on my list to ask Dave. Speaking of "The Big, Giant Head", incoming message from him:

Which is when Dave will start trying to figure out how to sell to the rest of the world without A: losing money in the deal, and B: looking like a big, fat hog. (And getting slaughtered. Shipping is a bitch...)

Okay, and it was my kid's dance recital today, so that's why it's a "about two hours left" update and not a "twelve hours to go" update.

So here's your Moment from Cerebus:

The Last Day "Remarque Edition" (Dave's weekly update #483)

Hi, Everybody!

Dave's Weekly Update:

The Last Day Remarqued Editions.

$79CAD (Canadian funny monies with birds on it.) $58.33 USD. (Foreigners? I asked, you gotta wait and see... ) April 29th. CerebusDownload.com
Starting April 30th, the price goes up $20CAD to $99CAD ($73.10 USD.) (Maybe if you guys would move to the right side of the world, you could get your Remarqued The Last Day. I hear the The United Kingdom is charging tariffs on EVERY parcel that has to be paid BEFORE it ships...)

If YOU want YOUR copy to be personalized (like mine is), you need to pay at CerebusDownload.com, then call (519) 576-0610 and leave a message for Dave explaining that you bought a copy (I'd say what the name that paid is, so Dave can verify with Eddie. Like if you're Butch, but Leslie paid, I'd say "Hi Dave! This is Leslie, I paid for a Remarqued The Last Day at CerebusDownload.com, and would like it personalized "To Butch!" please. I've been a fan since 1994 when I met you at a Con in blah blah blah" (Ya know that the tape DOES run out, right?...) OR, if you have the technology, you could fax your PayPal receipt to (519) 576-0955 to prove to Dave that you paid, and include your personalization request. Or if you know Eddie's email (I do. I know all sorts of stuff. Like the address of the Off White House. And Margaret's address. And Birdsong's in-seam. It's all in the AMOC Editor's Book of Secrets...), you could email Eddie with your personalization request, and make HIM tell Dave to write "To Butch!" on your Remarqued The Last Day that you bought from CerebusDownload.com for $79 Canadian Dollars (don't they call them "Loonies" or something equally ridiculous?) tomorrow, or $99 Canadian Dollars after that (don't they have a two dollar coin too? Man, living where the sky is gray six months out of the year can drive ya a little nutty...).

And REMEMBER, not only is it the Remastered The Last Day, not only is it misprinted "Form & Void" on the spine:

Not only is it Remarqued by Dave with an Old Cerebus Head:

But it's signed by Dave and Gerhard (who'll be in Indiana next weekend, by the way,)!

(And if you're American, and the Canadian Dollar drops tomorrow, you might save more money...)

AND BREAKING NEWS!
Well..."crikey!" I guess...

But wait!
So either get out your slide rules and start doing the math, or wait until this project is "airborne" and The Captain turns on the International Shipping light...

Hand Drawn Advertisement

A few years ago I scanned all of Dave Sim's notebooks. He had filled 36 notebooks during the years he created the monthly Cerebus series, covering issues #20 to 300, plus the other side items -- like the Epic stories, posters and prints, convention speeches etc. A total of 3,281 notebook pages detailing his creative process. I never really got the time to study the notebooks when I had them. Just did a quick look, scanned them in and sent them back to Dave as soon as possible. So this regular column is a chance for me to look through those scans and highlight some of the more interesting pages.

A little something different for today as this isn’t from Dave Sim’s notebooks. No more Cerebus #99 layouts. Sorry. But this item is hand drawn by Dave for use with Cerebus. Kind of. It is a mock-up for an advertisement for Cerebus Archive and glamourpuss:

Advertisement mock-up (click to embiggen)

I looked in a couple issues of both titles to see if I could find the actual advertisement, but I couldn’t. You’d think it’d be on Cerebus Archive #3 or glamourpuss #8, but it isn’t.

All that lettering is hand done. I’ll upload the picture in original size so if you zoom in you can see the pencil underneath the ink. And yes, this is on a piece of 8.5” x 11” letter paper.

If you find it and let me know where it was used, say so in the comments and I'll send you some Cerebus goodies.

Benjamin Hobbs:

Billy Tucci, creator of SHI,  emailed me this week. He's trying to contact Dave.  Dave contributed this double page spread to SHI: SENRYAKU:

He is hoping that Dave has a high-res scan of the original. SDOAR 2023 GoFundMe #17: Giant-Sized Ashcans It Is!

"I believe in this project. Dave Sim's done something special here."

- Will Clingan, GoFundMe Supporter

Greetings, all! Allow me to start with a recommendation. If you have not watched Carson Grubaugh and Sean Michael Robinson interview Alex Ross about photorealism and The Strange Death of Alex Raymond, you are in for a treat! It's also the basis for the next Emo Dave, er, Emo Carson strip!

Part 2!

Take it away, Emo Carson!
Jen's Non-Stressful Giant-Sized Ashcan(s) Update

Once again, thunder stolen!

Fingers crossed, but I am hoping we will have PDFs delivered to Alfonso for issue #1 before the next update. Then, we'll turn our attention to issue #0 while we wait for the Giant-Sized Ashcan to arrive.

Separately -- of the 51 donors who made the Giant-Sized Ashcans possible, 46 have responded to my email/GoFundMe messages. Five of you have not responded to three attempts at contacting you. I don't want to be a pest, but for those who don't respond, I will be listing you as anonymous. So if you have a burner email for your GoFundMe account, or you've waited to respond, now is the time to let me know.

SDOAR GoFundMe Tote Board

Since the tote board didn't make it into this week's strip (again), let's get an up-to-the-minute SDOAR 2023 GoFundMe campaign update:
  • $4,945.00 raised from 88 donations (plus $62.08 outside of GoFundMe).
  • 28 new pages released as mocked up by Dave Sim from June 11 to August 24, 2021
  • 49 total pages available on Dropbox, including Dave's 2019 mocked-up pages
  • Only $55.00 away from unlocking page 50
Just the Facts, Ma'am
  • If you have not donated >> $5+ donation grants access to all 49 pages and all pages moving forward!
  • If you have donated (thanks!!) >> GoFundMe does not have an option for monthly subscriptions. So... if you want to donate on a monthly basis, please do so as we are in the final week of month #4.
  • GoFundMe is a dreadful communication platform -- if you haven't heard back from me, gotten access to the new pages, etc., please email me at jen@typingmonkeys.com
SDOAR 2023 GoFundMe -->> https://gofund.me/4e2e1c96 <<-- SDOAR 2023 GoFundMe

Just the FAQs, Ma'am
From last week, Anonymous asked, "For clarification, and in hopes it will spur participation: Anyone who donates $200 will receive the unlocked original art page, autographed by Dave?"

I faxed that question over to Dave and he responded, "No. That was A) Total donations over $1,000, B) Acknowledgement that there's only one of those to date, C) Arbitrary generosity on my part..."

Still - I would wager that everyone has been quite happy with their rewards. Right, everyone?

    Right, James Windsor-Smith?

    Just the Fax, Ma'am

Speaking of which, here's another reward Dave sent out. Pretty cool right?

And as of this writing, we are only $55.00 away from unlocking another page and some lucky donor receiving something equally cool from Dave!
    SDOAR 2023 GoFundMe -->> https://gofund.me/4e2e1c96 <<-- SDOAR 2023 GoFundMe

    *NEW* California Test Market Edition!

Eddie Khanna has offered to donate a handful of copies of The Strange Death of Alex Raymond: California Test Market Edition for donations of $250 or more. This is the first printed version of SDOAR, Vol. 1, originally only available to select backers. I think we can also get Dave to sign and personalize them for you -- but only if there is interest.

If you are interested, you should know the drill by now -- Email Jen at jen@typingmonkeys.com and we'll get you sorted!

    Dave's back with the Monday Report!/Variations on a promo/Last Day Update/Creator's Rights

    Hi, Everybody!

    _____________________________________

    Dept of Oops...
On Saturday, I posted the video of me opening up the T8 Promo packs. What I FORGOT to include is that there are variants to the Letters Dave sent:
    The basic letter

The Strange Death of Alex Raymond "2020: Death of a Comic Book Salesman" Variant

PRESUMABLY, the latter was only sent to stores in California. Presumably.

    "Who @%&*ING cares Matt?"

Ah! I'm glad you asked imaginary AMOC reader who lives in my head rent free, I'm glad you asked. Some Dave Sim/Cerebus fans buy these kinds of things on the eBay. So, THEY @%&*ing care that there are at least two versions of the form letter Dave sent out with the Remastered Turtles 8 Original Art Cards. Because if a store decides to sell these things (come on, it's comic book promo stuff. All that stuff ends up getting sold because SOMEBODY will want it...), Margaret (as an example), or Spatula, or Jen, might be just OCD enough to want BOTH versions. (Comic fans in general be crazy, but them Dave Sim/Cerebus fans be a special kind of crazy. SPECIAL I tells ya...)
    ________________________________________

    Speaking of nutbars...
It was brought up that people who buy one of them The Last Day Remarques that will be available from CerebusDownloads.com, on Saturday, April, 29th 2023 ($79CAD for the first 24 hours, $99CAD after that. Currently the First Day of The Last Day is $58.35 USD , and goes up to $73.12 USD.), might want them personalized like the one I got is:

Well, if you DO, you're in luck.

    "Good Luck?"

    Eh...sorta.

    When asked, Dave said:
I hope you like this image, you're gonna be seeing it. A lot.

So, you gotta go to CerebusDownloads.com, buy the book, then call (519) 576-0610, and leave a message saying that you bought the book, and would like Dave to personalize it to you (or your husband/wife/boyfriend/girlfriend/son/father/daughter/mother/brother/sister/uncle/aunt/non-binary sibling/roomate/dentist/the guy at the comic shop you're trying to impress because he's pretty much the Simpsons' Comic Book Guy, and you are so sick of his G*DD*MN smugness, and know that getting him a signed & personalized & Remarqued The Last Day will maybe...just MAYBE get the prick to show you a little G*DD*MN respect for once. I mean you were basically paying his rent every month during Lockdown. Is a little respect too much to G*DD*MN ask?/grandparent/cousin/friend/whomever...). If I was you (thank Christ I'm not!), I'd throw an extra $5CAD on what you pay at CerebusDownloads.com (if you can, I know that sometimes adjusting the price is a bitch,) for the trouble. But that's just me...
