Several eBay auctions ended today of Dave's original art.
They were being sold by (presumably) George Santillan-Ahumada.
(All pieces for sale were signed to him.)
The seven pieces went for between $1175-2075, respectively.
The Cover to #152 sold for $7601 - !!!
You probably already talked to Dave for Please Hold, but I thought you and he'd like to know.
I won two of the auctions. I am thrilled.
I've already sent word to the Art Hunt e-mail (note copied below for details, if interested).

Yes, Margaret, I know you do. You can put your hand down. And stop doing your Horshack impression... 

Anyway, back before I admitted I was doing it and they cut me off, I used to get stuff shared to me from Dave. (Sorta. It was from Dave via Rolly.) And I'd poke around and download anything that looked neat. Because there was that Neil Gaiman Superman script that got lost for years that only ever got made because somebody had a copy. So like, if Sean Robinson ever somehow loses the 1200DPI scans for issue 151, we're okay because I have a set. (No, you can't have a copy Margaret...)

But, in my search for this:

for Birdsong (Thanks Spatula!) I found a folder of Neat Stuff that I may have stolen, but I maybe got sent to me on purpose...

The Seven Cent Nickel part 1

Okay, so many many years ago, I was gonna write an article for Cerebus the Newsletter about the economy of Estarcion.

I was gonna call it The Seven Cent Nickel after this bit from Animal Crackers:

That clip cuts off the opening dialogue:
 Chandler: "In the last analysis, it is a question of money. The nickel today is not what it used to be ten years ago." 

Spaulding: "Well, I'll go further than that. I'll get off at the depot. The nickel today is not what it was fifteen years ago. Do you know what this country needs today?...A seven-cent nickel. Yessiree, we've been using the five-cent nickel in this country since 1492. Now that's pretty near a hundred years' daylight saving. Now, why not give the seven-cent nickel a chance? If that works out, next year we could have an eight-cent nickel. Think what that would mean. You could go to a newsstand, buy a three-cent newspaper and get the same nickel back again. One nickel carefully used would last a family a lifetime!"
Chandler: "Captain Spaulding I think that is a wonderful idea!"
Spaulding: "You do, huh?"
Chandler: "Yes."
Spaulding: "Now then there can't be much to it, forget about it..."

Which is pretty much the basis for the Estarcion economy in High Society. But, as I've been re-reading the series for 2019 (shut. up.) one of the many motifs I've been looking for is money, specifically references to the economy.

First is issue 3 (or page fifty-three of the first phonebook):

Borealan gold mines are failing, and Boreala is going broke.

Then, there's issue nine (or page one hundred and eighty-five):

Which shows how the devaluing of Borealan gold is affecting everybody else.

Then, in issue ten (or page two hundred and forty-eight):

The first panel: "Cerebus knew the military government would be delighted to at last balance their budget."

The next time economics shows up is the Palnu Trilogy, and there are alot of examples there, so I'm gonna save them until a later time.

But I'll leave with another bit of foreshadowing from Issue one:

"Ten times a thousand pouches of gold"?

So, over the weekend, I hung a bunch of stuff in The Hall of Solitude (Located above the AMOCave, in Stately Dow Manor):

Cerebus In Matt's Life:

Part The Fifth

When last we did this $#!*, I left off with:

And then I skipped around and missed part the fifth.

The short version (Trust me, you want the short version.):

For about six months in 2003, I imbibed alcohol. It was great. Me and the kids from the college, would go bowling on Thursday nights, and then hang out at my buddy Rabbit's place and drink. (Well, I wouldn't drink, I'd just hang out.)

One week, I pulled out my hand-made diamondback cards

And we played Diamondback. And turned it into a drinking game. If you got two priests, it was called an "Alterboy," and you had to take a shot of Scotch. Which I took mixed with Coke, in my bucket class:

That's right, I drank scotch from a "buggid":

As "classy" people do...

Anyway, after ten "shots"," I was good and "fuckeded" up. Another night, I got very drunk and acted like Cerebus in Guys. (Remember, this is the short version....)

Cut to 2004, when I met Dave and Ger for the second time,
