Dave's scan was of seven fronts, and seven backs. I'm inferring that the order of the layout is the same between the two. But if you buy one of these, and the front don't match the back as I have them, it's not MY fault. (I'm blaming Seiler, because he's dead and can't fight back...)

Actually, not "by request", Dave never sent it to me. Yet...

And I got word (via carrier pigeon) that The Waverly Press is doing "Holiday Bundles":

Every package is different and loaded with a generous selection of some of the rarest items from the archive including some pieces of original art by Dave.

50 packages "in toto". They go on sale on Friday, 10am Eastern Standard Time. (That's 9am here in the AMOCave...)

And to "correct" my young Padawan, The photo he was SUPPOSED to show youse guys yesterday was of the SpaceX boat across the channel from where the cruise ship docked:

See Brian, the bit doesn't land if they don't see it's a SpaceX boat... It just is a non-sequitur...

Dave Sim had a little surprise for Grace as we dined into the wee hours of the evening long past beddy-byes (don't tell mom!) at the all too posh Metropolitan Hotel last night: Seems Glamour-puss is a fan and she commissioned Dave to do this very special portrait of Grace "in the style" so to speak. We were all very pleased and there were blushes and kissy-kissies all around. Thank to Dave and Glamour-puss for taking time away from a brutally hectic schedule to this drawing of Grace.

Rob Walton is the cartoonist responsible for Ragmop and the Cerebus Low Society project. Chocolate-Face Grace was a weekly mini-comic by Rob and Grace Walton: a comic about a father and daughter written by a father and daughter.

I was recently contacted by Rob Walton, creator of Ragmop, a comic book series which received two Eisner Award nominations, two Shuster Award nominations and has been included in Paul Gravett's 1001 Comics You Must Read Before You Die. Word on the street is, "He's a genius!"

Rob had the idea for aspiring artists to write and illustrate a comic book focusing on a professional, established comics character. He chose Cerebus. The Toronto Cartoonists Workshop created a Comics Lab as a forum for these freelance writers and artists to create and publish their own book. Rob is the instructor/editor and this is the first and possibly last of its kind.

Rob contacted me and asked if I’d be interested in contributing. I asked him how. He suggested that if I pencil the background for the cover, the students would then pencil in their Cerebuses. Dave has agreed to ink the Cerebuses and then I would finish inking the backgrounds. The result will be called Low Society. He sent this mock-up as a starting point for the background to the cover. I nearly laughed my as* off... and took the job:

From his "sketch" I created a pencil and colour mock up of the cover. The story is being written and illustrated as I type.

It was a pleasure to see Rob again. It's been almost 10 years since we've run into each other. He's been dabbling in directing, acting, cartooning, and doing all these things that make me feel like I need a nap. He recently completed a novel... sans cartoons.

I got the Low Society cover back from Rob Walton. Dave has inked the Cerebuses that the students had pencilled. I was impressed with the differences between each. One student wanted the aardvark to look more like a real aardvark and his rendition is the fifth character down the stairs. I don't know where Cerebus' clothes went on the last character. Dave also added a bunch of lettering, sound effects and motion lines to give it that Cerebus "look". It means a little more work for me, but it will be worth it for the students. I'm looking forward to reading the entire project.

Toronto Cartoonists Workshop: Comics Lab - Cerebus 'Low Society'

The Toronto Cartoonists Workshop is a learning environment where aspiring cartoonists can study with working professionals. The Comics Lab is a forum where teams of freelance writers and artists are assembled to create and publish a professional comic book. Comics Lab simulates the working environment of a freelancer at a mainstream comics publisher with each freelancer working under the guidance and tutelage of series editor Rob Walton. Each course under the Comics Lab banner will deal with pre-existing characters and concepts thus adding the additional complexity of working with an established property. The winter 2013 version of Comics Lab will feature characters from Dave Sim’s Cerebus.

With the editor acting as mentor and tutor, each writer is asked to submit a minimum of two script ideas for publishing consideration. The editor will then ‘green light’ one of the ideas after which a full script will then be developed. Rough layouts are then created and the storytelling, characterization, continuity and visual dynamics are improved and polished. Artists use the maximized layouts to begin the process of creating completed pencils and inks.

No prerequisite is required however each student must submit sample writing and art pages before being accepted to Comics Lab. Students must be able to adhere to strict deadlines. All prospective students should familiarize themselves with the Cerebus property prior to submissions. More details...
