Benjamin Hobbs:

David Birdsong sends along this variant cover for The Secret Origins of Cerebus In Hell?:

He wanted to fill the bullets with puns.  Dave's suggestion was this:

CAN11 and Narutobus Kickstarter... ONE WEEK LEFT!

Benjamin Hobbs:

There's only one week left of the CAN11 and Narutobus Kickstarter.  If you haven't backed it yet, you can do so HERE.

Currently the total raised is $19,546. David Birdsong posted this update to the Kickstarter:

EVERYBODY GETS PRINTS!

Great job by our backers reaching the Stretch Goal the day we announced it.  We have passed the CAN 10 conclusion from last year, but we have fewer Backers.  Hopefully with the threat of Tariffs removed those who have been waiting can join us for this one.  We do want to note that the Tariffs are delayed until March 4.  It would be a great thing if all Backers could get right on that Backer Survey as soon as it comes in.  Dave has pre-printed some, perhaps all of the items.

If you would like to ask Dave a question about any of this you can send a message to "Manly" Matt Dow over at: momentofcerebus.blogspot.com  Get your question in before Thursday when Dave and Matt will be speaking.

Big shout out to Margaret Liss of the Cerebus Facebook Group and our man at X, Brian West for always getting the word out.

Every Backer will receive all four Bacchus/Cerebus prints.  We hope to have that fourth one soon to show it off.

One week left, hope to see you at the end!

Next Week The campaign will be over! Get ready to fill out your surveys!

Narutobus Kickstarter ... COMING REAL SOON!

Benjamin Hobbs:

The Narutobus Kickstarter has a tentative launch date- January 22nd!

I sent the Narutobus proofs to Dave, and this is the only fax he sent in reply:

The cover he saw looked something like this:

Next Week: We're two weeks into the new year with NO AI ART! BUT! David Birdsong and The AI have sent new AI images to tempt me... what's a guy to do? Stay Tuned!

Happy New Year!

Benjamin Hobbs:

It's a new year! And my resolution for 2025 is to have LESS AI art on the Wednesday post!

Recently, I've been making some ink wash drawings.  Here's one of Super Cerebus and Super Cerebus Girl:

This was my first attempt at rendering Super Cerebus in Ink wash.  This is a small drawing, and I've discovered that the larger the ink wash drawing is, the more forgiving the shifts between tones.

Next Week: Will my resolution still be resolute? Or will Birdsong and The AI send me some hot new AI Art that just NEEDS to be seen? Tune in to find out!

Merry Christmas!

Benjamin Hobbs:

From everyone here at AMOC, and the AI, we're wishing you a Merry Christmas, and a New Year with slightly less AI art in it!

Now go read Cerebus like Ol' Saint Nick.  Or, you know, spend time with your family.

Next Week: It's a new year!  Will the promise of LESS AI art be kept? Find out!

Manly Matt Dow:
Geez Hobbs, don't you read the comments? People dunna like the AI.

I mean do you remember last year's AI?

Super-Cerebus Girl Ink Wash

Benjamin Hobbs:

I've been working on a pin-up of Super-Cerebus Girl.  I was having trouble with the face, so I drew four quick studies:

The dirty water used to clean brushes was on my desk, so I used it to add in some grey tones.

The fifth face is a lot closer to what I was aiming for:

The ink used for the vest isn't India ink, and bled a blue-ish color when I added wash.

Next Week: More INK!

Wednesday, 4 December 2024

glamourpuss.... now "drawn" by AI!

Benjamin Hobbs:

David Birdsong and The AI have been hard at work again! This time they send along glamourpuss!

Leave all your praise in the comments.

Next Week: I sure hope it's more AI Art!

Will the real Benjamin Hobbs PLEASE stand up

Benjamin Hobbs:

I received a new message on the Akimbo/CAN 10 Kickstarter today.  The person wanted to know if I had been hitting them up on Twitter (or X, if you're staying current) for money in exchange for crowdfunding advising.  I haven't been on Twitter since it WAS Twitter.

The fake profile is @HobbsBenja72296

It utilizes my profile information from Kickstarter, and it looks like this:

I'm in the process of reporting this profile to Twitter, but in the meantime, if they message you looking for money, please report them as a scam.

My actual Twitter is @TheREALBenjami5

Although I'm very rarely on there.

Next Week: Who has time to write a column? Now that I'm logged back into Twitter, I'll be scrolling endlessly.

Mail Call Part 2

Benjamin Hobbs:

Last week I showed off half the contents of the archeological time capsule that is the package Manly Matt Dow sent me in the mail.  This week we'll take a look at the rest of it!

First, he sent 5 trading cards.  There are two copies of his TMNT8 card, and three prototype cards from High Society.  (At least I THINK they're the prototype cards. We last discussed this AGES ago, and I should have confirmed this with Manly before posting this. Maybe he'll let us all know in the comments!)

He also sent me a bunch of flat pennies from Disney World and a VERY fancy protective sleeve that the coins are currently stored in.  I'm not sure if the protective sleeve was meant for the pennies or not.  When the package arrived, the pennies were floating around the envelope, and the sleeve was empty:

He also sent a cut little outfit for Little Baby Hobbs. The tag says 3-6 months old, and Little Baby Hobbs is currently a BIT older than that. But, as Manly stated, mailing things is his Kryptonite:

Finally, he sent a copy of Brer Rabbit.  Matt suggests that it can pay to put Little Baby Hobbs through college one day. I checked on ebay, and this thing only goes for about $12 mint.  My best bet to pay for college off this book will be to forge Manly's signature and sell in on ebay as signed by "The Manly One."  I'll be sure to notify everyone here when that auction is live!

Next Week: Toning Narutabus!

Mail Call Part 1

Benjamin Hobbs:

"Manly" Matt Dow sent me a package in the mail.  It contained several items which he had intended to send me long before now but hadn't because, as he put it, "mailing things is my kryptonite."

The first items are these awards, noting that I am the winner.  You may be wondering what I won. I know I'm wondering that. One award is from 2019 and the other is undated.  I don't remember winning any awards.  If Matt remembers what these are for, I sure hope he lets us all know!

He also sent his suggestion for the bookplate for the first CIH? Hardcover Kickstarter campaign which ran WAAAAY back in 2021.

Thanks for the mail Matt!

Next Week: More mail!

Cerebus In AI Hell?: Satan

Benjamin Hobbs:

David Birdsong and The AI rendered these images of Satan from Dante's Inferno. Enjoy!

Next Week: Will I finally fire up the scanner to show off new work? Only time will tell!
