Dave's back with the Monday Report!/Variations on a promo/Last Day Update/Creator's Rights

Hi, Everybody!

Dept of Oops...
On Saturday, I posted the video of me opening up the T8 Promo packs. What I FORGOT to include is that there are variants to the Letters Dave sent:
The basic letter

The Strange Death of Alex Raymond "2020: Death of a Comic Book Salesman" Variant

PRESUMABLY, the latter was only sent to stores in California. Presumably.

"Who @%&*ING cares Matt?"

Ah! I'm glad you asked imaginary AMOC reader who lives in my head rent free, I'm glad you asked. Some Dave Sim/Cerebus fans buy these kinds of things on the eBay. So, THEY @%&*ing care that there are at least two versions of the form letter Dave sent out with the Remastered Turtles 8 Original Art Cards. Because if a store decides to sell these things (come on, it's comic book promo stuff. All that stuff ends up getting sold because SOMEBODY will want it...), Margaret (as an example), or Spatula, or Jen, might be just OCD enough to want BOTH versions. (Comic fans in general be crazy, but them Dave Sim/Cerebus fans be a special kind of crazy. SPECIAL I tells ya...)

Speaking of nutbars...
It was brought up that people who buy one of them The Last Day Remarques that will be available from CerebusDownloads.com, on Saturday, April, 29th 2023 ($79CAD for the first 24 hours, $99CAD after that. Currently the First Day of The Last Day is $58.35 USD , and goes up to $73.12 USD.), might want them personalized like the one I got is:

Well, if you DO, you're in luck.

"Good Luck?"

Eh...sorta.

When asked, Dave said:
I hope you like this image, you're gonna be seeing it. A lot.

So, you gotta go to CerebusDownloads.com, buy the book, then call (519) 576-0610, and leave a message saying that you bought the book, and would like Dave to personalize it to you (or your husband/wife/boyfriend/girlfriend/son/father/daughter/mother/brother/sister/uncle/aunt/non-binary sibling/roomate/dentist/the guy at the comic shop you're trying to impress because he's pretty much the Simpsons' Comic Book Guy, and you are so sick of his G*DD*MN smugness, and know that getting him a signed & personalized & Remarqued The Last Day will maybe...just MAYBE get the prick to show you a little G*DD*MN respect for once. I mean you were basically paying his rent every month during Lockdown. Is a little respect too much to G*DD*MN ask?/grandparent/cousin/friend/whomever...). If I was you (thank Christ I'm not!), I'd throw an extra $5CAD on what you pay at CerebusDownloads.com (if you can, I know that sometimes adjusting the price is a bitch,) for the trouble. But that's just me...

Interesting how the not-colored-by-Don reprints can be considered forgery.

If it can be considered forgery, I’m hoping she wins the case.

I wonder if she would receive financial restitution.

Ugh...thanks for the reminder. I briefly considered buying the remastered "Last Day," but then Dave reminded us all of...#289/290.
Oy. Hard pass.

Re: Don Martin. Reading the details, it's pretty clear that what was published was NOT Don Martin's work, but was significantly reworked (e.g. original lines erased and redrawn by someone else). I don't know if Mrs. Martin stands to gain anything but I hope she wins.

Even if 289/290 isn’t your cup of tea, it’s worth it for the remastered version showing all the incredibly detailed and intricate line work as Dave and Ger cranked it to 11.
(It’s also darkly accurate re: old age and geriatric living, which is probably more evident as one gets older. Forget YA fiction, what the world needs is more OA fiction!)

AND, 289/290 has the first appearance of an actual aardvark in the series, on one of the two pages Gerhard worked on.

It is also accurate in its short-term prophecy of what Western Civilization is deteriorating (has deteriorated?) into. That was one of the reasons I'd considered buying it in the first place.
I might still buy it, but not until I've tracked down "Reads" (which In Stock Trades doesn't have) and, most likely, both volumes of "Church and State." (Although I have almost all of the original single issues, I have to repeat that Sean's remastering is beyond description - just stunning, stunning work.)
