It's The Story Of A Lovely Aardvark. . .

MARGARET LISS:
A few years ago I scanned all of Dave Sim's notebooks. He had filled 36 notebooks during the years he created the monthly Cerebus series, covering issues #20 to 300, plus the other side items -- like the Epic stories, posters and prints, convention speeches etc. A total of 3,281 notebook pages detailing his creative process. I never really got the time to study the notebooks when I had them. Just did a quick look, scanned them in and sent them back to Dave as soon as possible. So this regular column is a chance for me to look through those scans and highlight some of the more interesting pages.

We just looked at Dave Sim's Cerebus notebook #23 back in Get Out and Push from this past March. It is both a physically small notebook, 5.5" x 8.5", and had a small amount of pages scanned: 36 pages.

Looking through the notebook's pages again, I found Dave's notes about what exactly is Cerebus.

Notebook #23, page 25
And a sketch for some promotional material for the US Tour in 1992.

Notebook #23, page 27
Wait, did he almost put down 3,000 pages?

Those are some pretty broad brushstrokes. I recently summarized "2001: A Space Odyssey" thusly: Apes; space; psychedelia.
