I vote for having some fun with the drugged up pup.
Jingles may have to auction off some of his collection to try and help Nyla find that forever home but it doesn't look good with that update at the end of the article. Don't they put animals down after a certain amount of time?
Reserve the inside back cover for the Nyla Memorial.

Imagine if Jingles campaign saved Nyla?
Jingles. Helping keep euthanized dogs out of Hell? since 2024.

I give permission for Dave to make fun of this ridiculous story

Ripe for ridicule and parody. Gabapentin is an anticonvulsant and used to treat seizures, the generic version is cheap ($5 for 90 capsules). I had a dog that had severe seizures at the end, and it was very sad. But, trazodone is an antidepressant (it's also cheap) and the only way I get that is because I live in an apartment complex with so many dogs. Doping them up so they don't bark all day seems like a decent idea. Mommy has to go to brunch, fluffy, time for your meds!

Because doping your kids isn't enough for you...

Dave doesn't need permission to make fun of anything. Release the hounds! (Pun intended.)

Jason - gabapentin is an anti-convulsant only because that's the only one of its MANY affects that was thoroughly studied before its approval and on which basis it was first approved by the FDA. It is prescribed today - for human, not just dogs - for a wide variety of things that have nothing to do with convulsions. I've been prescribed it myself, and I never had any kind of convulsions. And having a dog in my household, I very much agree with the idea that "dogs are people too."

On the other hand, I'm in general sympathy with Dave's anti-authoritarian stance and don't want to stand on the side of "forbidding" him to make fun of anything he wants to make fun of.

On the other other hand, I do think that making fun of this dog and his situation is, to say the least, mean-spirited and grouchy-old-mannish (Dave often comes off as a grouchy old man, these days, yelling at the kids to get off of his yard, and I say this as someone who is almost the exact same age who often wants to yell at the kids myself, but jeez ...)

I like Larry's idea of Dave's making fun of him ending up having some kind of positive effect, but given the lead time of publications I doubt there's much hope of that.

My vote: Don't make fun of the dog.

The dog was abandoned by his family and stuck in a cage. Seems like a good reason to need a little something extra.

I realized I didn't comment on the Dog Maybe needing drugs after the fact....I think they were just covering their butts. Don't want to get sued if they send a dangerous animal out. This wouldn't be an issue if the dog would just stick to beer! Life is hard.

Women are telepathic?!

Well damn; now I know how my Mom could always tell I was lying to her.

But honestly folks: 10 comments on some dog story and nothing on what Dave says and believes about our wives, mothers, sisters, and daughters?

You must be new here, Steve. That territory has been trodden and re-trodden ad nauseam.. Doggy Xanax, on the other hand, is fresh meat.
