Notebook 36: Cerebus #277 - 279

MARGARET LISS:
A few years ago I scanned all of Dave Sim's notebooks. He had filled 36 notebooks during the years he created the monthly Cerebus series, covering issues #20 to 300, plus the other side items -- like the Epic stories, posters and prints, convention speeches etc. A total of 3,281 notebook pages detailing his creative process. I never really got the time to study the notebooks when I had them. Just did a quick look, scanned them in and sent them back to Dave as soon as possible. So this regular column is a chance for me to look through those scans and highlight some of the more interesting pages.

We’ve been looking at Dave Sim’s final notebook used during the production of Cerebus. Last week it was more for Cerebus #274 even though the number box on one of the pages was for Cerebus #276. We finished up last week with page #32 and material for page 16 and 17 of Cerebus #274. What will we see on page 33? Not much, just the issue number box for Cerebus #277.

Then there were three more blank pages until the issue number box for Cerebus #278. Three more blank pages and the issue number box for Cerebus #279:

Notebook #36, pages 33, 37, and 40, click if you want to see these nearly blank pages bigger

The last time we saw a bunch of blank pages in notebook #36, it was for the blank pages for Cerebus #269 – 272. I showed some of the tracing paper sketches used in the production of those issues instead. Since there were no comments on that post and it is work to get up and get those tracing papers from The Cerebus Room, I’m not going to bother this time. If you want to see more of them, just speak up.

In the meantime if you’d like to see page 43, the next page to have content, it is in the first entry for notebook #36.
