Friend to the Blog, James Windsor-Banderas-Smith has a new Kickstarter for Papa Balloon & Cactus #5. He's got a few copies of one of Dave's variant covers for the previous issues as rewards. ACTUALLY, he found a bunch of copies of issues he thought were out of print, so I think you can get the whole series. He's got T-Shirts too. Four days to go!

Zipper calls in a favor:
Hi Matt!
I stopped in a JAF comics this afternoon after work and had nice conversation with John. John is the owner of JAF Comics and publisher of Dreamscape Comics. He asked me for a favor. So, I'm asking if you for a favor. Can you please kindly promote John's new book, Lady Savage, through the Rigamarole. It's live on Kickstarter now and need a little push to get the book fully funded. Most of the creative team has gone to the Joe Kubert School of Art.

Wait a minute...I don't owe Zipper a favor...

Our very own Jen DiGiacomo is part of a film production titled The Day Elvis Died. She'll never ask anybody here, but they're crowdfunding to finish the post production on the movie. (It's set in 1977, will a certain obscure Canadian cartoon aardvark make a cameo? (No. Elvis died in August. Cerebus wasn't published until December. Any appearance in the flick would be an anachronism that would ruin the movie for everybody. EVERYBODY!).) Here's the first trailer. And if you're going to Edinburgh Fringe, Jen's show Woman in the Arena, ends it's run today. I believe she's having it filmed. If you go, "swordfish". And send pics...

From the "like it really matters" department:
There's certainly a difference between Platinum / Golden Age comics where only a handful still exist (which is what the Photo-Journal, Overstreet, and other references refer to) out of perhaps tens of thousands printed, and any more modern / recent small press intentionally low print run title.
I'm sure I'm not the only reader here who finds Dave's references to the Scarcity Index and potential future value (as in other posts from Dave) misplaced at best, dishonest at worst.
Steve
"I'm sure I'm not the only reader here who finds Dave's references to the Scarcity Index and potential future value (as in other posts from Dave) misplaced at best, dishonest at worst."
No. No, you're not. It's a bit sad, to be honest,.
Misplaced? Perhaps. But im heavily doubting any deliberate dishonesty. Dave, being human, of course has his flaws but I've never picked up 'liar' vibes from his postings
The way you folks assign motives to Dave used to frustrate me, but now I just find it funny. I've known Dave for over 30 years and I have never once thought I knew what he was thinking. Borrowing the Scarcity Index is Dave's way of documenting his ever shrinking fan base, nothing more.
As always Mr. Birdsong, appearances can be deceiving; I'm just relaying how it appears to me.
My comment as to potential future value is tied in with Dave's references to the CGC Canadian price variant comics he's getting as trade for raw CIH? issues. It appears to be on Dave's mind and he conveys that in various ways.
BTW, thanks again for the good deals on several eBay purchases over the years; you see, I too have some eye towards potential future value.
Steve
You're welcome, Steve. I see where you're coming from, but I just don't think any of us that make Cerebus In Hell? comics are planning on using them for a retirement plan.
Remember when the guy asked about Dave Sim the Yankees announcer? He replied to my message about those George Constanza Yankees bobbleheads so I think he might engage with fans. Dave (cerebus) had suggested someone message the guy about his namesake.
