Since Jen is AWOL, glamourpuss part 1: "Necessity she's the Mother of Confession"

Hi, Everybody!

Life Hack: Don't hire a thespian to do blog posts for you (THESPIAN MARGARET! THE-spian! Don't get yer knickers in a twist!)

Anyway, Jen's off living the High Life, so I'm back having to "do" Tuesdays until she comes back. IF she comes back...

I don't know nothing 'bout no Strange Death of Alex Raymond Ashcans. That's a Jen and Philip Frey question. Sorry. I'm "out of the loop" (and I swear to God, they try to bring me  into the loop, I'ma kick their asses...)

ANYanyway,
Just the GoFundMe Facts, Ma'am
  • $20,285.00 raised to date from 372 donations
  • 124 pages (maybe more? Matt don't know shit... Maybe Jen could give me the Math, and I'll be able to update this here Big Board...) released so far as mocked up and/or drawn by Dave Sim through 18 Feb 2022.
  • I don't know how far we're away from unlocking page 125. Is it unlocked? Have then next six pages been unlocked? Only Jen knows for sure...

So, since Jen's "oot" (say it in Canadian...), I guess I'll start over at the beginning:

Cut to 2008. Gerhard has quit Aardvark-Vanheim in October of last year (2007).
I was there. It was a fun weekend...until it wasn't.

(One time Jeff Seiler (R.I.P.) told me that Dave had called him at one point when he (Dave) was knocked on his ass sick. During the conversation, Dave apparently told Jeff why Ger had quit. I forget the explanation Jeff told me...sorry I's old...and decrepit. Anyway, later Jeff was hanging out with Ger at a convention, and Jeff mentioned what Dave had told him, and, according to Jeff, Ger said, "Dave is so full of shit!" and told Jeff the REAL reason he had left. It's a pretty typical Jeff story...)

Sales of the Phonebooks have slowed. Income is down. Dave needs an infusion of ready cash to pay off Gerhard for his half of the company. As we all learned at the end of Jaka's Story:

"Necessity" she's the Mother of Confession...er, Invention.

So Dave turns to the long speculated follow-up to Cerebus (first mentioned in Latter Days):

As Dave said in the notes:
One of my favorite parts of Cerebus was drawing The Girls of Fruitcake Park (for which I had been pulling out photo reference for a number of months: I think I had about four hundred more Girls of Fruitcake Park than I could fit into forty pages, let alone three). Gave me an excuse to buy copies of Elle and Teen People (although that is the relatively aged Michelle Pfeiffer in the lower left of page 361 -amazing exception that proves the rule). Then I turned over my photo reference to Gerhard and let him do some as well.
When people ask me if I have anything planned after Cerebus this is about all that comes to mind: cute teenaged girls in my best Al Williamson photo-realism style. Interesting, Dave. But what would the book be about?
I just told you, cute teenaged girls in my best Al Williamson photo-realism style. If I think of anything story-wise (which isn't likely to happen), I'll let you know.
I remember enthusing to Chester Brown about the Girls of Fruitcake Park and him admitting that he had had a very good time drawing the Playmates from photo-reference for his graphic novel, The Playboy.
And thus: glamourpuss was born!

Next Time: Cerebus in Hell?, then Margaret (unless SHE disappears...), then the Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday posts, but next week, the next seven pages of glamourpuss...
