Okay! There they are!

Oh wow! And me stuck at work...

Unknown said...

Hey! SOMEbody has to work! I sure wish I knew how THIS worked.

Gary Boyarski said...

They're all fantastic Dave! And very nicely priced. I'll be redecorating my comic studio Cerebus style in the near future!

Alex, Margaret and Donal -- thanks for jumping in EARLY like this (I just figured out how to get over there).

Thanks Gary! I've been thinking about taking an 4" x 4" or so panel and blowing it up to two feet by two feet just to see how...arresting...that is on the wall!

Alex said...

Hey Dave,

After you donate, how do you start downloading the files? BTW, great idea!

Michael R. said...

Hi Dave!
Holy Crap! I definitely wasn't expecting all this. WOW! This is going to take some time to absorb.

Hey Alex, as soon as you donate, you'll be sent a link to cerebusarchive.com where you'll be able to download them all! I'll be here for the next few hours, let me know if you have any trouble!

Unknown said...

I'm the last guy you want to ask technical questions like that!

Click your heels together and say "There's NO comic like CEREBUS" three times?

Just tried that. No go. And now people are looking at me funny.

Thanks Michael R. I'm taking that as "anti-sticker shock" Thanks!

It's always fun seeing ones art in a larger than life format. So many great images to choose from... I may have to take down some family photos, I'm sure my wife wouldn't mind. 😄

Unknown said...

Hey Dave, no problem. Looking forward to printing these out some time soon. :)

Unknown said...

Thanks, Bechara for jumping in!

Gary! Tell Mrs. Boyarski I'm REALLY, REALLY sorry.

Have you thought of doing digital prints of the photos?

Unknown said...

Thanks, Damin! Thanks, Eddie! Thanks, Richard!

Sunset prayer time coming up in 14 minutes. Back after that!

Jeff Seiler said...

As I commented below, Dave, it's the ultimate Comics Metaphysics: 114 images available, but one PARTICULAR cover image is missing:

Yup.

No cover #114. Spooky.

Seriously, though: This is awesome.

Gonna do a Top Ten list later tonight.

Alex said...

That's great Sandeep. I'll keep my eyes open. And Dave, I did try the "heel clicking" method without any success (other than spooking my dog). I hope this campaign gets you to where you want to be!

Jeff Seiler said...

Love the oversized (odd dimensions) art of Cerebus and Jaka in the greenhouse. That's not the cover image (different POV), so where is that piece from?

Sandeep Atwal said...

Okay, all the invites should be out now, let me know if you have any problems!

Gary Boyarski said...

Don't worry, we already have one big Cerebus print in the living room. I'm sure a few in the kitchen, in the hallway, down the staircase and in the bedroom won't make a difference.

Besides who WOULDN'T want to wake up staring at a life size Aardvark!

Quick question though... What about the cover art for the Cerebus Guide to Self Publishing? Could that be offerered as a print?

Alex said...

Hey folks, just wanted to let anyone who "is on the fence" know that the whole process has gone smoothly from the donation process to being able to download my first (of many) images. Just be sure to check your "spam" folder in case your emailed link goes there instead of your "inbox". Great job guys!

Margaret said...

Got mine and started downloading. Issue #222 page 20 first. Love that page. "..then ranking diplomatic idiot...". I can zoom in so close that I can see the light pencil marks Dave put on the page for the lettering.

I'm online watching the system (I wrote the cerebusarchive website). Let me know if you run into any issues at all and I'll handle them right away.

al roney said...

Awesome! I'm in for the lot.

Will there be other pages added in the future? Not that I'm complaining as the selection is fantastic, but there are some covers I'd like to have some time down the road.

Great stuff!

Sandeep Atwal said...

IF the project is a success (relatively speaking....), and we're able to raise a decent amount of money, we'll be adding more pages and maybe taking some requests....

Margaret said...

Nicely done Eric, so far so good. It is easy to navigate and quick with the downloads for such large files. I go - oh cool, look at this one, and end up spending some time looking at it before looking for another one to download and look at in detail.

Unknown said...

Hi Alex! Thanks! Right now we're $650 closer to having everything scanned than we were an hour ago. This has been a "one step at a time operation" for some time.

Unknown said...

Jeff Seiler - the Cerebus and Jaka in the greenhouse is the image from the cover of #36 -- THAT'S how big I drew it originally!

Unknown said...

Gary - You're really going to have to tell me your wife's name so I can apologize a little more personally than "Mrs. Boyarski". Sorry, Wife of Gary! SORRY SORRY SORRY!

Jeff Seiler said...

I can tell you right now, Dave, the Prince Mick cover automatically makes my Top 10 list. Not sure yet what spot but, easily, top five.

Easily.

Unknown said...

Alex - It's working? It's really working? How aBOUT that!

er -- I mean, OF COURSE IT'S WORKING! SANDEEP AND ERIC ARE GENIUSES!

Unknown said...

Hi Margaret! Yeah, it's pretty detailed when you're doing 600 dpi, all right!

Jeff Seiler said...

Any thoughts on your Top 10 (out of 114) list, Dave. Anybody else?

Unknown said...

al roney - It's really a matter of where Sandeep is putting his time in. We've got three projects on the BACK burners right now. Whether TCOP gets moved to the front burner I'll be able to tell you this time next week, I'm guessing.

Unknown said...

Thanks to Eric Berry for making this work TECHNICALLY. That's a LOT of website to put together on something no one has done before. And Sandeep! An amazing amount of work!

Unknown said...

Jeff Seiler - I have pretty esoteric tastes in CEREBUS artwork which is why Sandeep picked the images. If they were my personal tastes they'd probably be Rabbi and the Africa Sequence. And we'd all be listening to crickets chirping about now. :)

Gary Boyarski said...

Hi Dave,

My wife's name is Crystal, and she's usually pretty cool with putting up comic art around the house. No need to apologize, but I will pass on your comments to her when I get home tonight.

Michael Grabowski said...

I experienced reverse sticker shock. I have no practical plan for any of that digital art but the bulk price was too good to pass up for that many images. Even just to gaze at them and pinch-zoom on my tablet. Best of success to Dave for this project to bring in further funding.

Jeff Seiler said...

Actually, Dave, the Africa stuff would be awesome! At least S. threw Ham into the mix. BTW, I know I'm technically not supposed to do this, but the 1st NCAA basketball game tonight was a blowout and you'll sign off before the 2nd game gets going, so that's why I'm here. Lucky you!

Unknown said...

Jeff Seiler - I think it's a good selection in each category. The Norman Kingsley page would probably be my favourite. Then F. Stop Kennedy. Konigsberg with Freud. "The Girl Next Door" splash. SLEDGEHAMMER. The Alan Moore page. Loshie's self-portrait (nyuck nyuck nyuck). Dying Cerebus (both).
The READ MINDS poster is still a showstopper.

Sandeep Atwal said...

Glad people are happy with the selection...while there are lots of pages with Cerebus in them, I figured a "Greatest Hits" with large splash pages would be a pretty good guess. I'm HOPING that this will be enough of a success to warrant adding more pages... Let's hope so! Again, many thanks to Eric for setting up everything on the cerebusarchive.com side!

Unknown said...

Crystal - I sincerely apologize. DEFINITELY the family photos have to stay up. If it really becomes an issue, you can always go "dense pack" -- every inch of every wall covered in frames. I talked to Blair and Rochelle Kitchen about that because they're both cartoonists and they have three kids and a LOT of photos. You either have a very subdued few pieces on each wall or you Cross That Rubicon and Cover Every Inch of Space. I'm trying it with the stairwell at the Off-White House. There are still days I go "I don't know about this."

Anyway, make sure Gary gives you your fair share of wallspace -- and be prepared to fight for it!

Jeff Seiler said...

Yeah, Loshie with the barenekkid lady is gonna be HUGE! (Nyuck, nyuck, nyuck!) READ MINDS definitely makes the Top 10. "The Girl Next Door" for sure. Were those pages done in watercolor? Kingsley is good. F. Stop leaves me cold. If I were still practicing psychology, the Konigsberg with Freud would be framed and hung on the wall behind my desk!

Unknown said...

Mechachem Luchins just pledged! That's right -- it's after sunset! Shalom, Menachem! Okay, they're getting ready to close the place. Well, I can say I was here for the first 18 pledges. The next time I see it'll be 12:30 on Tuesday.

Hope everyone has a great Easter Sunday!

Jeff Seiler said...

And you, as well, Dave! Thanks for chiming in! You, too, Sandeep!

Travis Pelkie said...

Wow, that is a good deal. $50 (US? Canadian?) for all those images? Very cool. Not something I think I want to do right now (since I don't have a computer to use that's mine and mine alone), but I will eventually go for this.

I would personally love the Africa sequence, as that section (only 2 1/2 issues but oh so amazing!) is probably one that "sealed the deal" for me in thinking Cerebus is the greatest comic ever.

Might I suggest offering the Rabbi pages once the AMC Preacher TV series comes out...soon? I'm not sure when it starts, but it might be worth trying to tie it in to that.

Damian T. Lloyd, Esq. said...

Fifty percent over the sought amount as I type this! I think this is a great idea for funding the restoration work. The heavy cost is up-front, sure, but then the cost is minimal -- just Web-hosting, and if the bandwidth charges are high it's only because the downloads are many.

-- Damian

Jeff Seiler said...

And, as I say, 114 images for US$50.

That's 43.8956 cents per image, no matter how small or large you make it.

Say you want to download Mr. C to your tattoo artist's computer, and you want image X: ...

44 cents.

Now, yes, ya gots ta pay fer the printout and the tat.

BUT.

44 cents per image, to do with what you will?

Remembering that THE Dave Sim has said, essentially, "do with it what you will", ... um...

can I borrow 44 cents off ya, M?.; Travis; Mike?

Surely Sandeep can loan me 44 cents, right?

So, let's get going, all you first gen, second generation, and newbies! Getcher posters and prints NOW!

They ain't goin' away, and they ain't gettin' scarcer, but they are highly manipulative! In the psychological sense, of course.

Kinda like Astoria. She made things bigger.

Just sayin'.

Look!

Over there!

She's laughing at you!

You're not buying into the biggest startup in history! (Hyberbolic funny; You know! "A tee-hee aboutcher wee-wee!")

Yeah, Astoria will play nice, but you better buy in. You REALLY don't want her laughing at you. Where did she go? To a place where she laughed at you.

Red Sophia will say that it's best if we have sex before you decide whether or not to buy in.

Buy in.

Girly Boy Rick will say, "Ow!", after you advise him to say, "yeah, this is not a terrible idea," just after prodding him with the fork you use for the garlic-stuffed olives.

I think you might be getting the gist of what I am trying to imply, but lest you infer less than the grist for the mill, here comes Bear, lumbering up to the microphone (surprise, surprise!):

Um.

Whaddayacall.

Buy it.

Or.

(Brrraaap)

Whaddayacall, Cerebus, the dipshit, will be lookin' fer ya.

And ya don't want that.

Trust me.

One time?

One time, I saw him chew the pines offa a porcupine.

For dinner.

So. Folks, let me, Jeff (Elrod), suffice by saying that most of the folks here agree that the new project is not turribull.

Get your's now.

That's me, out, having tried my best at being a person with multipersonalities. Please don't incarcerate me; rather, you ought to give me praise for figgeŕing it out.

Hi Sandeep,

Just sent you an e-mail but just to make sure.....

Donated last night but not yet received my link to cerebusarchive.com. If you could please re-try the heel clicking thing again for me.

thanks
Richard

Hi Richard, just resent your link...let me know if you have any trouble with it.

Just downloaded the first image--- Cerebus 82- Page 12--- and it took a little while. I'm just going to download in order. This is going to be one big ass file when I'm done in a couple of years.

Michael R. said...

Sandeep,
As I wait for the images to download. ( I'm downloading the 6th one right now) I'm scrolling around and looking at the images of "Cerebus Original Artwork Pages" and you picked a great variety. But then, does Dave and Gerhard have any bad pages to choose from?

Barry Deutsch said...

This is so cool!

I got curious as to which pages are the most popular downloads. So far, the most popular Oversize (by the downloads count) seems to be issue 125 page 14 - Oscar meets Julius. I wonder why? I mean, it's a terrific page, but so are a bunch of the others. Maybe because this is a page which has a lot of funny dialog.

The cover to 153 (Cerebus on a balcony waving a bloody sword while happy citizens lean out neighboring windows to watch him) is the most popular cover to download, so far.

Cerebus destroying the statue of Superman is the most-downloaded Apocrypha. Followed by Sloth.

Damin J. Toell, Esq. said...

You're welcome, Dave!

(He said "thanks," so I'm supposed to say, "you're welcome," right? I know, something feels off about it.)

I added some lettering to the photo of Dave with the oversized print, for social-media purposes. Here it is in case anyone would like to use it: https://pbs.twimg.com/media/CepTIwsXEAMjmzf.jpg:large

What's the $ amount before this is considered a success?

I want more! Ha.

Folks, if they haven't already, should start sharing the GoFundMe link to comic art lovers everywhere.

Thought I'd offer some info I found regarding printing oversize (meaning larger than 11x17) in full color, if anyone is interested in transforming these beauties into actual posters. FedEx (formally "Kinko's) was the best bang per buck I could find in terms of high res full color printing at an affordable click. So here are the specs: 18x24 46# coated stock = $11. I hope that's helpful. If anyone finds a better deal please share.
