On Sale 30 Years Ago: Cerebus #101

Cerebus #101 (August 1987)
Art by Gerhard

DAVE SIM:
(from Cerebus Cover Art Treasury, IDW, 2016)
"Ave Avid" - Dave and David without the 'd's. The deathly silence that met me being the first Indie creator to get to issue 100 was the first time I realised I was pretty universally hated. 'Don't get 'avid' about 'ave's' because I don't think you're going to be getting many.' Beautiful miniature painting by Gerhard.

Diamond Order Code: OCT140536

Maybe it's just not a big enough story in the UK, but I can't imagine anything more appropriate than the eclipse cover (or sequence) today.

Dave's self-pity on display again! He got about as much attention for reaching issue 100 as any other comic reaching a round number. ("Incredible Hulk 300 will be a double-sized issue!"). Lack of kudos means he's universally hated? He actually continued to be generally admired for another 86 issues. One of the sad spectacles of Latter Dave is his attempts to rewrite history more to his liking.

Interesting. I always thought "Ave Avid" meant that Weisshaupt was telling Cerebus to "Have At It".
