Notebook 21: Campaign ’93 Materials Part 4

MARGARET LISS:

A few years ago I scanned all of Dave Sim's notebooks. He had filled 36 notebooks during the years he created the monthly Cerebus series, covering issues #20 to 300, plus the other side items -- like the Epic stories, posters and prints, convention speeches etc. A total of 3,281 notebook pages detailing his creative process. I never really got the time to study the notebooks when I had them. Just did a quick look, scanned them in and sent them back to Dave as soon as possible. So this regular column is a chance for me to look through those scans and highlight some of the more interesting pages.

We’re continuing our look at Dave Sim’s 21st notebook used during the creation of Cerebus #164 to 187. We’ll be looking at this notebook, which there were 260 out of 300 pages scanned, until we’ve seen every single page of it. Well, the pages scanned. If you want to see all of the notebook #21 posts to date, just use the Notebook 21 tag

We’ve been looking through Dave’s 21st notebook and materials for the Campaign ’93 promotion. A couple of weeks ago I posted Dave’s letter to retailers which outlined Campaign ’93 from Cerebus #167 as the notebook material ties into that. You can find the Campaign ’93 items by using that tag. We’ve looked at pages 52 and 53 and then last week pages 54 and 55. This week we’re moving forward to page 56.

Notebook #21, page 56

The top text says: Pamphlets – 11 x 17 quick printed on both sides. Folded into four page “booklet”. And then we see a bunch of thumbnails for what would become the back. Thos thumbnails are pretty dang closed to what we see in Cerebus #167:

Cerebus #167’s Letter to Retailers Pages

There are a couple of more pages I left out of the above picture, as they weren’t shown in Dave’s layout above, and they’re just text pages.

We have already seen the rest of the Campaign ’93 pages, #57 – 60, way back in June of 2016 before I renumbered the notebooks (long story): Campaign ’93 Notes.

So next week we’re back to “regular” Cerebus content. Will it be Cerebus #167 or #168? Walls of text or sketches? See y’all in a week.
