Pieces of Turtles 8.2 is Live! And a bootleg page from SDOAR Vol. 3, because...why not?

Hi, Everybody!

Might as well get it out of the way, right away:

Here's the deal:
Sale ends when Dave decides to cut the cord. Or when we all vote to cut the cord. Or when Eddie tells Dave to tell George to cut the cord.

We never really decided, but you have until AT LEAST next Saturday (5/14/2022).
__________________________________________________
Yesterday, while YOU listened to/watched Please Hold For Dave Sim, I FINALLY got to Powers Comics, 2180 S Ridge Rd #2, Green Bay, WI 54304, and emptied my pull file of ALL the Cerebus in Hell? comics and Swords of Cerebus in Hell? trades that have been waiting for me for almost a year...
___________________________________________________________________________________
SPEAKING of Swords of Cerebus in Hell trades, Hobbs is running the Kickstarter for the HARD COVER Swords of Cerebus volumes 9 & 10 right now. Which I guess I need since I only had volumes 4, 5, 6, & 11 in my pull file...
___________________________________________________________________________________

I ALSO got:

As Powers owner Dave Powers said to me when I started to look through my stack:
"I don't know why there's two copies, are you sure you want both?"

Well, I checked the first one:

And started laughing. And told him "the reason there are two copies is that this one is a misprint and was supposed to be destroyed:"

Don't worry Sean and Carson, he gave it to me for free.

So know I have:
glamourpuss #1-26
The California Fundraising Edition
The complete Living the Line Kickstarter Edition
The Preliminary Strange Death (the tracing paper book from Sean from the Strange Death Kickstarter)
The Strange Death of Alex Raymond Mockups (also from the SDOAR Kickstarter)
And the volume three mock-ups I stole before they caught on and limited my access to the backstage area. Ya wanna see a page? Ok, Margaret, but JUST ONE:
"Anything not nailed down is mine... Anything I can pry loose, is not nailed down..."
_________________________________________________________

SPEAKING of Sean Robinson's Living The Line, they're having a sale:
The Living the Line store is having a 20 percent off sale for the next seven days! This includes ALL items in the store, including all my remaining inventory of You Don't Know Jack, the two remaining Blue Meanies Strange Death remarqued copies, The SDOAR Tracing Paper and layout book remaining copies, and more.
Only a few copies remaining on most of these titles, so now's the time!
They posted this yesterday, but the sale goes through the 15th.

AND, Living The Line ALSO send out:

Visionary Cartoonist Yokoyama Yuichi is Back with PLAZA, a Maniacal Manga Extravaganza!

Art and literature historians of the future will be flabbergasted that Yokoyama Yuichi existed in our time. He is a visionary on the level of William Blake. PLAZA is a parade of invention, set to the beat of turning pages.
— Dash Shaw (Cryptozoo, Discipline)

"PLAZA is the purest expression yet of Yokoyama's unmatched style. A circus for the eyes, this book is a magic trick disguised as a graphic novel, one that reminds us of the medium's limitless power."
Matt Seneca, cartoonist/comics critic

A dazzling sensory barrage of speeding lines and swoops! Witness the torrent of joyous spectacle, the inner workings of a cosmic parade machine!
—Lale Westvind, (Grand Electric Thought Power Mother, Grip)

Living the Line Books is proud to present the latest from avant-garde manga artist Yokoyama Yuichi, the stunning PLAZA, coming to book stores and comic shops internationally in September of 2022.

Bigger, bolder, and louder than ever before, neo-manga artist Yokoyama Yuichi is back with PLAZA! Inspired by Carnaval in Brazil, PLAZA offers a maniacal extravaganza of marching, dancing, leaping, firing, cheering, smashing, and exploding over the course of 225 eye-and-eardrum-confounding pages. Originally published in Japan in 2019, this oversize English edition of PLAZA brings to full, hyper-animated life the spectacular graphic art of this genre-defying work of avant-garde comics.

Yokoyama Yuichi is Japan's leading creator of avant-garde comics. Born in 1967, he studied painting in art school, then turned to manga in the late 1990s. Characterized by modernist abstraction, sparse dialogue, oversize sound effects, obsessive movement and speed, and a wry sense of humor, Yokoyama's "neo-manga" cross the boundary between art and comics. Among his many books are New Engineering (2004), Travel (2006), Garden (2007), Outdoors (2009), Baby Boom (2009), World Map Room (2013), Iceland (2016), and Plaza (2019). His works have been extensively translated, and have featured in museum exhibitions in Japan and around the world. He has been nominated for an Eisner award, and is a two-time LA Times Book Prize finalist.

This English-language edition of PLAZA, translated by noted manga scholar Ryan Holmberg, also includes the most extended and informative interview with the artist to date.

PLAZA will be available internationally through Diamond Comics, Diamond UK, and Diamond Book Distribution.

Art samples and preview PDFs for PLAZA are available upon request.

And, going back to Please Hold, Eddie let me know:
Hey Matt,
Rolly usually sends me a complete list of the AV inventory every few months. Last time he checked there were 1140 COLLECTED LETTERS 2004, 13 ULTIMATE GUIDE TO SP, and 12 CEREBUS GUIDE TO SP
So if you need any of that, send Dave money...

More information as I get it...

The Death's Dark Tread deal just keeps evolving...

The offer still stands at $5,528.11, but a new update has arrived, courtesy of Eddie Khanna:
Hi Matt. We thought this might be something you'd want to post on AMOC and the Facebooks.

So Sean, Dave and I have been quickly coordinating with getting useable hi-rez scans of upcoming CEREBUS artwork for sale from a particularly prominent High-End Auction Site, and we have a fan of the work who is willing to actually go to the site and do the scanning for us (for which we are ALL VERY GRATEFUL), since the auction house doesn’t do hi-rez scanning on behalf of others.

However, this does involve buying and shipping a new Sean Robinson approved scanner that can be used for this situation and whenever it arises in the future when more artwork comes on the market through the site.

Total cost of the scanner plus shipping was $1,022. So anyone who wants to chip in and help defray the costs to AV, feel free to help by Paypalling Sean through seanmichaelrobinson@gmail.com and be sure to click on “Friends and Family”, and AV will reimburse for the remainder.

So far we have $600 (!) donated towards the scanner. If we somehow get more than required, the extra money will go towards payment of our volunteer’s expenses and time.
-Eddie
I do believe that you fine folks have contributed a THOUSAND dollars towards the scanner...

Please Hold For Dave Sim: 5/2022

Hi, Everybody!

Well we held:

Audio:

And Video:

Part one:
Dave and I discuss the proper adjective for Ramadan, then Cerebus Online's 1500 subscriber, then Cerebus Berserker prints, and finally, Lee Thacker's question: "Will Dave be boycotting any future Russian reprints?"
Part 2: Dave and I discuss Steve's question:
Matt asks:
"How the @#%& you print a proof AFTER the books have been printed AND shipped, I have no idea..."

Which is essentially my point in an AMOC comment down there towards the bottom of the page on 12 April.
It's NOT a printer's proof.
It's simply another gimmicky low-print cover produced under a dishonest name.

For 8.2, howsabout an honest name, something along the lines of "Alfonso's Signed Edition".

Unless honesty isn't particularly observed with Dave's 'idio-syncretistic" belief system.

Steve
yeah, the gloves come off
And while typing the above I actually thought, "I wonder what Seiler would say about this."
Part 3: I sent Dave all the comments on the Pieces of Turtles 8.2 flash sale idea.

Details in the video. Tell everybody! (I'm posting this Friday, so you might have to refresh the page to see the buttons.)
Part 4: MJ Sewall got art. So we discuss that. And the The Death's Dark Tread auction. And then MJ had a question about getting Collected Letters direct from Dave, and Dave, it turns out has more collected letters than he knows what to do with. You can get one SIGNED & PERSONALIZED for $30 to cover shipping, plus whatever you wanna pay Dave for it. (Volume 1 is $35, and Volume 2 is $25. So let's just call it $30 a piece.)

Plus, Dave's sending me a list of ALL the product Aardvark Vanaheim has laying around. Details as I get them...
Next Time: I dunno, isn't two hours of videos enough?!?

Lord Julius' Entrance

MARGARET LISS:
A few years ago I scanned all of Dave Sim's notebooks. He had filled 36 notebooks during the years he created the monthly Cerebus series, covering issues #20 to 300, plus the other side items -- like the Epic stories, posters and prints, convention speeches etc. A total of 3,281 notebook pages detailing his creative process. I never really got the time to study the notebooks when I had them. Just did a quick look, scanned them in and sent them back to Dave as soon as possible. So this regular column is a chance for me to look through those scans and highlight some of the more interesting pages.

This past January in Letter From and To The Prime Minister we saw a couple pages from Dave Sim’s second notebook. Dave’s second notebook had 198 out of 200 pages scanned and covers Cerebus #27 through 37.

On page 161 Dave did some quick sketches of Lord Julius:

Notebook #2, page 161

And another one on page 162

Notebook #2, page 162

Dave had this to say about the two pages of the notebook:

"Moving Lord Julius and scenery around. Should he arrive between Cerebus and where Astoria and the Prime Minister are sitting?"

"A funny coffee pot? You want to keep all props - except for a cigar - as far away from Groucho as you can. All they can do is distract you. You'll notice in the final version he just serves the two cups on a tray and then the tray just magically disappears."

And, referring to Cerebus #35, pages 15 & 16 (aka High Society pages 203 & 204), you cn see where Dave had Lord Julius show up with the two cups on the tray, and that tray does magically disappear.

Cerebus #35, pages 15 & 16

I got mail:

"What the @#%& does that have to do with Cerebus?"

Um...Brian is my successor?

I had all my Cerebus in Hell? paper dolls in the background?

"WHAT. DOES. THIS. HAVE. TO. DO. WITH. CEREBUS. OR. DAVE SIM?!?"

Oh!

Dave drew the Hulk in 1975:

Plus it's neat as fuck...

Dave Sim talks to Kim Preney.

Hi, Everybody!

Before Neal Adams went and died on us, Dave sent me this:

In which he talks to Kim Preney of Preney Print & Litho, about the 90 copies of Cerebus #300 that they had on hand and which they've given back to Dave:

Speaking of the dearly departed Neal Adams, David Birdsong sent me Green Lantern/Green Arrow 83 Page 3 that Dave was talking about yesterday:
