So I Can Dance Probably

MARGARET LISS:
A few years ago I scanned all of Dave Sim's notebooks. He had filled 36 notebooks during the years he created the monthly Cerebus series, covering issues #20 to 300, plus the other side items -- like the Epic stories, posters and prints, convention speeches etc. A total of 3,281 notebook pages detailing his creative process. I never really got the time to study the notebooks when I had them. Just did a quick look, scanned them in and sent them back to Dave as soon as possible. So this regular column is a chance for me to look through those scans and highlight some of the more interesting pages.

I was looking through the notebooks and wondering what I should post, and I saw a nice sketch of Jaka. So, I’m going with that. From notebook #8, which covers Cerebus #70 to 79. So yup, Jaka shows up:

Notebook #8, page 46
A couple sketches of Jaka, the title of issue #74, and a quick sketch of the lay out to page 3. While page 47 had a couple of head sketches of Jaka, I liked the next page better.

Notebook #8, page 48
A sketch of Jaka and Cerebus holding hands and some dialogue to go along with it. Looks like Dave also started to write down the issue numbers for the subsequent issues and their titles.
