Matt's Stupid Project #2: THE MOVIE!!!

Hi, Everybody!

45 more sleeps until the Remastered Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #8 from The Waverly Press Kickstarter launches:

Holiday Bundles are being shipped if they haven't already.

SPEAKING of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #8, I FINALLY finished Matt's Stupid Project #2:
(Here's a lil' video showing ALL the various Mock-Ups, AND Dave's Notes on Final Version #1, Final Version #s 2-5, and a little something Hobbs worked up, and a little something Hobbs worked up that I finished:)
So here's Dave's notes:

And here's the FIVE versions I did. And if you're paying attention, Larry Wooten gets one of these because he donated to Larry Shell's GoFundMe. (You could have gotten one, but you never told me you gave Mr. Shell any money.) ((I had said Larry would get #5, but I'ma let him pick which one he wants. You know the address Spatula...))

After Dave's notes on my word balloons, I decided "we'd finish it in post!"

This is the one were I tried to go "Full Mignola"...

I was actually getting pretty gah-ddamn tired of inking the SAME THING OVER AND OVER!!! by this point.

So, I sent the five to the CiH? crew, and Hobbs sent back this:

I reminded him that there was lettering, then I put it on there:

BUT, because Hobbs added the blood like Big Mama SHREDDER had cut Matisse, I did a second version:

What am I doing with this?

No idea. But it's finished. And that's what counts...

What the hell has Gerhard been up to?

Hi, Everybody!

Say! What the hell has Gerhard been up to?

I know, I know, there's a link over here------------------------------------------------>
takes you right to his Blog. But ya gotta understand, that's not how it looks when I'm making these things. It looks more like this:

So when Easton Pennsylvania's favorite son, Michael R. sends me:
Hi Matt!
Gerhard posted my commission on his blog today. I thought it would be cool to post it on AMOC.
Michael R
I go: "Oh yeah! Ger's Blog! I wonder what the hell he's been up to?"

Neat!

Thanks Mike!

Thanks Ger!

Thanks...me?

Layouts for Page #12 & 13 of Cerebus #114

MARGARET LISS:

A few years ago I scanned all of Dave Sim's notebooks. He had filled 36 notebooks during the years he created the monthly Cerebus series, covering issues #20 to 300, plus the other side items -- like the Epic stories, posters and prints, convention speeches etc. A total of 3,281 notebook pages detailing his creative process. I never really got the time to study the notebooks when I had them. Just did a quick look, scanned them in and sent them back to Dave as soon as possible. So this regular column is a chance for me to look through those scans and highlight some of the more interesting pages.

A couple of weeks ago we saw page 83 of Dave Sim’s thirteenth notebook which covered a bit of Cerebus #114. In fact, it was page 11 and some artwork of young Jaka that is on page 16 & 17 of Cerebus #114.

So what is on page 84? Well, if you guessed layout for pages 12 and 13 of Cerebus #114, you’d  be correct.

Notebook #13, page 84

The six panel grid and dialogue are pretty close to the final pages. Though all of the sound effects on page 13 aren’t there:

Cerebus #114, pages 12 & 13
There is actually other items on the notebook pages as well as the two page layouts. In the upper right corner is a list that goes from 14 though 21, with 21 crossed out. Cerebus #114 – 119 is actually the section of Jaka’s Story called Pogrom's Progress. Down in the bottom left corner is a sketch of the character who will became Oscar.

TMNT8 Variant Cover Sketches!

Benjamin Hobbs:

First a word from Matt:

49 more sleeps until the Remastered Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #8 from The Waverly Press Kickstarter launches:
If you ordered a Mystery Holiday Bundle, they're beginning to ship today.

And speaking of the TMNT8 campaign, I'll be doing a variant cover! I pitched several covers, here are two of the rejected sketches:

I really like "EEK! An Aardvark!" I might finish it up for fun.  (After I finish the ACTUAL variant cover I'm working on.)

Cerebus, Renet, and a Turtle peaking out from behind the fern made me laugh, but leaves a LOT of negative space as a cover.  Dialouge would probably help fill the space. The logo is swiped from Dave's cover.

For more from the TMNT8 campaign, check out Waverly Comic's Instagram.

Next Week: It'll be only 43 sleeps until Remastered TMNT8. And MORE TMNT cover stuff!

A Moment of the Strange Death of Alex Raymond: Day 7 Update

Jen DiGiacomo, Interim Head of SDOAR Division, Aardvark-Vanaheim, here once again. One week in and I already have my own logo. Well, my own logo surrounded by Matt's logo. Basically, two logos for the price of one, the brainchild of Manly Matt Dow and David Birdsong.

So welcome to Matt Dow's A Moment of Cerebus presents Jen DiGiacomo's A Moment of Strange Death of Alex Raymond a.k.a AMOCPAMOSDOAR a.k.a AMOSDOAR -- and the Strange Death of Alex Raymond 2023 GoFundMe update a.k.a. SDOAR 2023.

These acronyms are going to be the death of me.

(Note to self, avoid using the word spartan. That word went over SO well last week.)

First up, another obligatory pull quote for Strange Death of Alex Raymond. “This is a master work. I’m honoured to have even laid eyes on it.” - E.S. Glenn, author of Unsmooth, cartoonist for The New Yorker

The New Yorker and British spelling. That's what we call class, Holmes.

Anyhoo, seven days in and the SDOAR 2023 GoFundMe campaign has raised $1934 from 34 donors. That means we've unlocked nine new pages in one week, plus the four we launched with, bringing our grand total to 13 new SDOAR mocked up pages available via Dropbox for anyone who donates $5 or more to the GoFundMe campaign.

SDOAR 2023 GoFundMe -->> https://gofund.me/4e2e1c96 <<-- SDOAR 2023 GoFundMe

And -- only $66 away from another new page, the halfway mark to our monthly goal, which will in turn unlock SDOAR 2023 Vol. 0 and Vol. 1 ashcans. How cool is that?

But wait there's more.

Dave have authorized me to begin sharing SDOAR 2023 Production Art on AMOSDOAR - production art that can be exclusively "won" by GoFundMe donors in three ways.
  • GoFundMe donor randomly selected on a monthly basis
  • Anyone whose donation unlocks a page (i.e., every $200)
  • Very, very generous donations
And now the first five pieces of SDOAR 2023 Production Art from late November 2022:

SDOAR 2023 Production Art #1

SDOAR 2023 Production Art #2

SDOAR 2023 Production Art #3

SDOAR 2023 Production Art #4

SDOAR 2023 Production Art #5

So what are you waiting for? Donate to GoFundMe today!

Before I wrap up, one more thing. And this last bit if very important. So many people have contributed in order to make Strange Death of Alex Raymond a reality over an extended period of time in all of this book's incarnations, throughout all the fits and starts. If anyone thinks or <ahem> feels they have been treated unfairly, deserve more for their contributions and support in the past, or that new goodies such as production art should have been available when they contributed, please contact me at jen@typingmonkeys.com. I can't promise anything, but I will do everything that I can to make it right.

Hi, Everybody!

Yesterday's bummer:

As Dave said, The Last Day has been postponed.

A re-solicitation will be forthcoming. When I know, you'll know.

(I have no idea if previous orders will be cancelled, or if they'll get reapplied to the new solicitation.)

I mean, this doesn't surprise me:
