UK Tour: Coventry, 1989

Dave Sim & Cerebus Visit Coventry Cathedral
Art by Dave Sim & Gerhard

GERHARD:
Coventry Cathedral. This photo, of all the ones that I took that trip, was the one that I really wanted to try to draw. The Fantasy Advertiser comics magazine did an interview while we were there and wanted a cover. I was only too happy to oblige. I like how Dave re-interpreted himself and added Cerebus the Tourist. The composition made me think of the angel and devil you often see depicted on people's shoulders but in this case the angel went over and kicked butt.

Hmm..

Dave dyed his hair color..

Typically a rather ... feminine thing to do.

(...as I stir the pot...)

Maybe he was feeling emotional?

Thanks Ger,
great pic and great art by Dave.
This is how I remember Cerebus and Dave. This is why I come to this site to unashamedly revel in the past!

Listen buddy, the chemicals may be the same, but the boxes they come in are definitely highly masculine. We are talking 'Guys' here. And being Canadian, let's not forget hockey hero 'Rocket' Richard and Grecian Formula for men. Check!

I was still a comic book dealer at the time! This was the con that several of us spent the Sunday afternoon in the basement bar 'shooting the breeze' with Dave & Gerhard! Also there with us, if memory serves, were Bryan Talbot, Garth Ennis, John McCrea, Fox (from Redfox). I seem to remember Dave being very vocal and talking about what, I think, eventually became his thoughts on women etc!
