"In the front of the second volume, called “Conan of Cimmeria,” there’s a drawing of some kind of fantasy sword and sorcery character inside a black circle. This picture looks a lot like that original Cerebus logo that was supposed to be used for the Cerebus fanzine that never happened and which ended up on the back cover of Cerebus #1."

Ahh okay, early Cerebus is very good imo but knowing all the horrible shit he’s said and done definitely taints aspects of the reading for me idk, Gerhard’s backgrounds/art in general genuinely masterful though makes the whole thing even more unfortunate

the whole thing is even more frustrating because you can see the art improve as the series goes along so when you eventually hit the insane rants you get it paired with images like this. (shows a. couple of pages from later in the series.)

Well, I have never and will never read it.

Also- Earendildo

They won't read it and apparently won't stop commenting about it either. Pathetic. But then just about everything on Twitter is.

And you reposted it? I'm sure most people do not click through on everything, but now it's highlighted? Ohh Kay...look it's social media. Even the comments section of this blog gets bad. Damian? I was rushed this week, but I generally try to avoid threads that become negative even though the initial tweet might be nice. I'm not trying to create an echo chamber by any means either... yes, people it's out there in case there was any doubt. A lot! I would hope it's obvious that I try to filter it.

Oliver, I enjoy the column every Sunday. It's nice to see a lot more people just reading Cerebus and ignoring what anyone else says to them about it. I don't know of any two people that see Cerebus the same way. Anyone willing to read the whole thing faces an uphill battle at the end of the book so I don't think it's possible to form an echo chamber around it. About as close as you can get to that is the nearly ubiquitous "Cerebus is really good... up to a point, but the guy who wrote it is an evil misogynist." Dave Sim is another thing: There is no echo chamber around him and if anyone thinks so, then where is it? I work with Dave, we don't always see eye to eye, but we also have a personal relationship and I am fond of him as a person, not just the Cerebus Guy, so yeah, I do sometimes call out this kind of asshole move when I see it. This is what is wrong with social media. They lie in wait for any mention of Dave and then pounce, then pile on. It's like a dedicated cult of Anti-Dave doing their "duty" to warn the world about the words someone used that they don't approve of. I know I get called crazy for thinking that but while I can't find you an online echo chamber supporting Dave, I can find countless examples of comic fans who seem to think it is their mission to make sure Dave is canceled and cannot make a living in the comic book field. It's not just Dave, it's anything these self-righteous types want to complain about this week. Social media was started to bring people together, but then it went commercial and now it's infested with politics. I will never apologize for finding it a vile thing that has done nothing for social discourse. It isn't social at all, it's polarizing and full of poison. If I speak out against criticisms of Dave that are thick online then I'm just one voice against hundreds. I don't think it's a secret I'm a passionate guy and impatient with my opinions and you can't be that way without saying things that people take issue with. If my one man push back makes you feel like I'm being critical of the column then I'll just shut up. I'm sure that will make a lot of people happy.

I misunderstood and I'm glad you enjoy the column. Thank you and I do share your passion. I do my best to highlight the good stuff - to emphasize that there is that side too. Hopefully it helps change the narrative in some small way. To highlight the good and not the negative. It's an uphill battle. I forget it can be shocking to some of the level it's at...i've been doing this daily for years - long before I started this column so I'm accustomed to it. It's maybe much worse than you think lol. Like you I have a vested interest too - a bit self serving as I'm trying to do a little self promotion for the film:). An impossible task in itself in every conceivable way - worse case scenario it will be a noble failure lol. I could change tactic where I post all the negative and rage against it?? (And in fairness there is no comic that doesn't get vitriol sent it's way on the internet.) It would make for a much longer column - if nothing else it would show high brand awareness??:):) Anyway in all seriousness I do understand the outburst.
