In Search of an ETA
Hello backers!
This is just a quick update to the situation with the misprinted books.
As mentioned in previous updates, the entire run was misprinted by the printer-- four pages towards the end of the book missing an entire color plate, leaving these pages with just a bit of black printing.
As mentioned before, these pages were IN the proof correctly. The error was a rather improbable one made by the printer's prepress staff, and than missed by the press person.
We have yet to receive an ETA for the corrected books, but the printer IS making progress. By my suggestion, they're looking into some options (letterpress, flexistamp) for manually adding the blue plates back into copies where this is missing. If they find an acceptable solution, they would only need to reprint a portion of the run.
Lastly, please be aware there are misprints in circulation at some Diamond stores, because of the failure of the printer to stop shipment (see previous updates). Diamond has requested that retailers destroy these copies, for which they will receive reimbursement. Please, if you see copies "in the wild", let us know the name of the store, and I will contact them, or let them know yourself, kindly please. I made a dozen of these calls on Friday, and had almost uniformly pleasant conversations with very understanding folks who had just missed the recall message from Diamond.
We REALLY want you guys to get your books, but every effort is being made to make sure that when the books DO show up, they are as good as they can possibly be.
Thank you all for your patience and understanding during this trying experience!
All the best,
Sean
p.s. Carson and I had a discussion this week about the moral imperatives of publishers, in which I wave around one of the misprint copies of the book. Check it out here, at about 26 minutes into the feed.
