MARGARET LISS:
A few years ago I scanned all of Dave Sim's notebooks. He had filled 36 notebooks during the years he created the monthly Cerebus series, covering issues #20 to 300, plus the other side items -- like the Epic stories, posters and prints, convention speeches etc. A total of 3,281 notebook pages detailing his creative process. I never really got the time to study the notebooks when I had them. Just did a quick look, scanned them in and sent them back to Dave as soon as possible. So this regular column is a chance for me to look through those scans and highlight some of the more interesting pages.
I know, I know, it has been three weeks in a row that we’ve looked at Dave Sim’s 29th notebook used in the production of Cerebus. What can I say, I like it. Take for example, page 10:
Notebook #29, page 10 |
Yup, it is another pretty much complete page from Going Home. But there are some differences. Here is the final page:
Going Home, page 176 |
F. Stop’s tie, pose, belt buckle, all pretty much the same. His face looks a bit different, as is the title above the text: from ‘Perfect Strangers’ on the notebook page to ‘Pleasure’s Simple Life’.

I don't mind one bit, Margaret; "Going Home" is my third favorite volume, after "Jaka's Story" and "High Society."
