I always worry about Dave's security guard plans here. After all, if the potential thief/vandal is the one paying the guard, then where is that guard's incentive to stop him doing whatever he likes?

Maybe, if it's always the same guard, then their incentive is to continue being recommended for future guarding gigs.

Hi Paul, Barry & Cory! Yes, the plan is to have a local security firm in charge, having the front door key and keypad codes for disabling the alarm. Basically you would book with them, however far ahead of time and they would meet you at the house, entering with you and then sticking by you through your entire visit to make sure you put things back where you found them, don't steal anything, etc. I don't see it as a Cerebus Archive "money-maker" -- more a service for those people for whom seeing THE ACTUAL HOUSE is on their bucket list. It would be whatever hourly rate the security firm would charge. Which will probably be quite reasonable since it's a very "cushy" security detail.

When Sandeep and Fisher and I went to Leamington to close the warehouse, I thought, "Well, if there's ever going to be a security breach this would be it, since everyone on AMOC knows I'm not home all this weekend." So, I called a local security outfit and explained the situation and they were GREAT! Basically: we'll charge your credit card $50 and if there IS an alarm call then the charge stands. If there is NO alarm call then we'll give you half of that back.

So, I called the Alarm System outfit that I use, gave them the contact info for the security firm and told them if there's an alarm, contact them.

Barry: Watch for my plug for your new book on next week's Update!

I should have been clearer about the fact that the security firm remains a constant in this with the "cushy" -- pretty close to zero risk, pretty close to zero stress -- Off-White House "gig" as its incentive for doing a good job.

Thanks for the upcoming plug, Dave! :-)

Eventually the money will run out. What will happen to the house and its contents then?
