On Kickstarter, Dave Sim has been posting daily comments (and special limited time offers), along with teasers for upcoming issues of CIH?

Recently, he's been discussing his progress on THE AMICABLE SPIDER-VARK #1!

The original rough cover.  The final will surely be different.

In the comments of the Kickstarter he says: "More progress last night and today on THE AMICABLE SPIDER-VARK. Unrepentant womanizer. His credo? "With Great Power Comes: SCORING HEAVY WITH THE BABES!!"

You can find more about THE AMICABLE SPIDER-VARK in the comments of the Kickstarter!

Next Week: The promo strip for the next issue of CIH? debuts!

How REAL Canadians spell "Canada":

C, eh? N, eh? D, eh?

A couple of criticisms of the cover:

1) I think Cerebus's second word balloon reads more smoothly if it hits the "do" rather than the "this". And the line should end in a question mark (or a "?!?" maybe).

2) Spider-Vark seems to have ten limbs. (Talk about more for your money!)

3) The "eh" in Spider-Vark's first balloon feels a bit jarring. Canadians don't really use "eh" at the end of questions, but as an "Are you still with me?" at the end of statements. And I'm not sure that there shouldn't be a comma after "sorry"; confirm that with Jeff S.

In response to my new bromance brah, 1) I agree that the "do" should be hit harder than the "this", but (and I have always been mystified by this, apparently, actors are taught to pronounce words harder out of cadence. I guess the thinking is that it makes them stand out. I dunno; I sort OF get it.

Continuing; yes, it should be a question mark after "Cerebus", but if the "this" remains emphasized, then ?!? would work. However, don't the layout guys put down their word balloons first and then squeeze the words into them? Can you digitally change the size of the word balloons to accommodate more...um...punctuation?

In re: 2), Yeah ten limbs. Eight arms and two legs. Did Spidey have ten, or eight? Cause, you know, "arachnid: an arthropod...characterized by four pairs of segmented legs and a body divided into two regions. ( From the Latin and the Greek, "Arachnida" and "arakne".

In the Whore of Babylon's fifth word balloon, there should be a comma after "FREE".

Jeff said...

Yeah, comma after "sorry" and after "feelings".

The "eh?" thing I'll leave up to the Canucks amongst us.

Damian? I'm loving this detente!

Spidey grew four additional arms for a total of six during the events of Amazing #100.

This triggered a series of horrific events every hundred issues:
100 - extra arms
200 - return of the bloke who killed Uncle Ben
300 - Todd MacFarlane
400 - death of Aunt May (don’t worry it was an actress)
500 - can’t remember.... too many reboots... JMS was here - I liked him!
600 - Dan Slott
700 - Death of Peter Parker’s mind, replaces by Doctor Octopus... Dan Slott 2
800 - ‘Carnage-Goblin’... total creative bankruptcy... Dan Slott 3

Jeff, the type goes first, then the ballon is created to be the right size. If later editing causes the text to change too much we delete the balloon and make a new one. Digital lettering is much easier to edit,
