Cerebus Around the World and Web #81 by Oliver Simonsen

Oliver Simonsen:

Screenwriter/Director/Producer/Composer/Actor gives Dave Sim Bday greeting with the wish to make a May 17 birthday movie: An epic adaptation of Dave Sim's Cerebus comic, with the late Bill Paxton voicing the lead role, and music by Trent Reznor and Enya (all whose bday it also was)

His entry to the Cerebusverse was with a letter to Neil Gaiman (because Dave told Neil to post on his blog that Dave would send a free issue to anyone who wrote him a letter because he didn’t believe anyone wrote letters anymore) and as a result has read all of Cerebus

Philip R. Frey does a couple of "Cerebus in hell?" faux covers inspired by this article of yesteryear crediting Dave Sim with creating "Fantastic Cerebus the Aardvark"
https://www.facebook.com/groups/cerebus/permalink/3995422623858416/

On the above Philip adds: How goofy am I? I went through all this and it wasn't even the right title. It was supposed to be 'Fantastic Cerebus the Aardvark'.*sigh*
To which Dave jovially responds (on his Bday no less - how cool is that?):

Philip gets it right second time around

Last night was a lovely evening here in Minneapolis to go out to dinner at my favorite restaurant, McCormick & Schmicks, and then to receive a phone call from THE Dave Sim and sit on the patio for an hour talking with him about religion. I highly recommend it.

Thanks Oliver, the young bloke was super excited to see his picture up on the website.

Whoa! I didn't know that Gaiman announced he bought one!

Thanks, Oliver! Would have sucked to miss that.

Thank you, Oliver. Like Irene Cara once sang, “Whaaaat-a-feeling”! It’s nice to have a place that is mine.

Damian T. Lloyd, Esq. said...

Jeff S. recommends talking about religion with Dave? As penance for one's sins or something? And I assume he means "listening to Dave bloviate about his SPAG".

-- Damian

Jeff said...

Haters gonna hate, Dame. But, to clarify, we talked about organized religion(in other words, the practice of faith), his exclusive (?) use of The Kingdom Interlinear Translation of the Bible and why, and related subjects. And we talked about my beliefs, as well. No sports, no politics, no comics talk--just the above. Very edifying.

But, of course, I wouldn't expect an atheistic hater like you to be able to grasp that concept.

Damian T. Lloyd, Esq. said...

Well, Jeffie, dummies gotta dumb, I guess. Interesting that it's always the smallest minds who think any criticism is motivated solely by hate. I am surprised to hear that you have your own religious beliefs; I think that's the first time I've seen you not simply import Dave's mind to replace your own.

Dame, you can call me anything you like, even late to dinner, but don't call me a dummies. My IQ is at least a few points above the standard deviation of average. Of course I have my own views on God and religion. Everyone does, even if it's disbelief or doubt. I assume you are in the former category, but I shouldn't assume. For all I know, you could be a Catholic priest but (hopefully) without the standard-issue proclivities.

Let's all just abide by the very good advice: Judge not, lest ye be judged.

Damian T. Lloyd, Esq. said...

"People who boast about their IQs are losers."

Tony Dunlop said...

Heh. I have a relative who claims that when he took his IQ test, it showed he was so smart that the scale didn't even go that high. No, I am not making that up.

Jeff said...

Dame, if you think what I wrote about my IQ was boasting, then you clearly don't have a high IQ yourself. An IQ "a few points above the standard deviation of average" would be around 113. Clearly not high. Mine has never been measured because while working on my graduate degree in psychology, I took two classes about psychological testing. That means that I know how IQ tests are constructed, which invalidates any results that I could get from taking such a test. But, hey, nice try at trolling, Dame.

Tony the Annoying said...

To be pedantic about it, "a few points above the standard deviation of average" doesn't actually make sense. I think Mr. Seiler means, "A few points more than one standard deviation above average."

Damian T. Lloyd, Esq. said...

Jeff, I did take your comment to be boasting. Despite your denial, I still take your comment to be boasting. It's just unfortunate that, as usual, you have so little to boast about. This graduate degree -- is that the one you awarded yourself after failing to meet the course requirements because you would have passed if the prof hadn't been against you? Or is that one of your other degrees?

-- Dame

Jeff said...

Dame, don't make Margaret ( or, in this case, Matt) tell us again to play nice.
