From The Archive: The Origin Of Thoom

DAVE SIM:
Treasures From The Cerebus Archive:  THE ORIGIN OF THOOM -- I'm pretty sure that this was the first "jam strip" I ever participated in (unless there are earlier examples out there) the Saturday night of PETUNIACON. By the looks of it, it was started by Gilbert Hernandez (PETUNIACON was Los Bros' first comic book convention, if I'm not mistaken). A very good example of how comic art and alcohol don't mix. Tim, this is your site so I'll leave it up to you as to anything you want to censor.

This might be useful to historians one day researching the question, "What effect did the internet and on-line pornography have on drunken creativity?"

Man... I could have died quite happily having never seen that again.
This was done well before the proliferation of on-line porn; I know that I didn't have Internet access for about another ten years.
I think 'drunken' and 'creativity' are mutually exclusive.

Haha! No, I meant you were more likely to see this kind of stuff drawn before the internet came about.

You should hear my uncle in the bar after he's had a few, for "drunken creativity!" ;)
