Friend to the Blog, uses the Vulcan nerve pinch to bend his Wookiee: Steve Peters has another Kickstarter going. (I have a joke in one panel.)
The remastered Volume 1 is available digitally for $9.99.
On May second, Dave called and we talked for a hour and twenty-one minutes (I broke it up into six parts, HOPEFULLY, I split the video at good spots...). This month's Please Hold is a little more free-wheeling than in the past, but I hope everybody likes it.
Please Hold For Dave Sim 5/2/2019:
Part one in which Dave and I say "hi," and Dave talks about his wrist, and...Jeff Seiler's birthday, with a special surprise for Jeff:

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!! Thank you Dave, Matt, Janis Pearl, and Natasha. You girls sing waaaay better than Dave does! And, you know what? On my birthday, April 30th, I went out to karaoke and had birthday cake, and sang birthday songs. Nice synchronicity there!!!
Yes, amazing synchronicity that people sing birthday songs on birthdays.
-- Damian
Jeez Damian, lay off the man, it's his birthday.
A Fake Name
Yes, as he went to some effort to trumpet on "An unofficial site celebrating the comics art of Dave Sim & Gerhard". Jeffy's attempts to write himself into the history of his hero is another example of his unseemly sycophancy.
-- Damian
Damian, not that you care one whit, but Dave and I have exchanged birthday phone calls for years now, given that our birthdays are only 17 days apart (although he is six years older than me--well, except for 17 days a year). I was not "inserting [my]self into the history". Rather, I was referring to an element of the complicated relationship that I have with Dave as a person, a human being. I'm sure that, if you were to do like Margaret and send Dave some money, then he might even call *you* on your birthday. Not likely but, hey, miracles happen.
Thanks, Jeff, for taking yet another opportunity to remind us all that you know Dave Sim personally. You're the new Sandeep Atwal.
I give Dave all of my money he deserves, by buying Cerebus comics. Why would I want him to bribe Dave to call me on my birthday? Come to that, why would I want Dave to call me at all? You're a weird dude, dude.
-- Damian
Oops, apologies (especially to Proofreader Jeff)! Typo in my third-last sentence; please mentally delete the "him".
-- Damian
Damian,
My point was it's rude to crack on someone on their birthday; he expressed his happiness, why couldn't you just leave that be, let someone enjoy a simple pleasure in life instead of taking another shot at him. Common courtesy.
c'est tout,
A Fake Name
Ah, but he wasn't enjoying a simple pleasure, was he? He was, rather, boasting about a simple pleasure in a forum dedicated not to him, abusing the word "synchronicity", then doubling down on that in a subsequent comment. But did you know that Jeff S. knows Dave Sim personally?
-- Damian
Good grief, Damian, why do you care???
Damian,
Wow.
Let me try and unpack your some of your comments.
1: "Yes, as he went to some effort to trumpet on "An unofficial site celebrating the comics art of Dave Sim & Gerhard". Jeffy's attempts to write himself into the history of his hero is another example of his unseemly sycophancy."
Um... Dave Sim brought up Jeff's birthday when he called. DAVE. Not Jeff. Then I got my kids to sing while I videoed an aardvark wang. That'd be why the first video is less then three minutes long. (Also, so I can send Dave a link to it if he wants to go online and see it.) I do agree that Jeff's use of the word "synchronicity" in his comment, was odd. But taking Jeff to task for commenting that he saw the video seems... Well, let me put it this way, is giving cannabis to an equine legal were you live?
2: "Thanks, Jeff, for taking yet another opportunity to remind us all that you know Dave Sim personally. You're the new Sandeep Atwal."
So...you're antagonistic on pretty much everything Dave does, you are openly hostile to Dave's fans, as well as to people Dave collaborates with, which begs the question: Why are you here? (Not that I don't appreciate the eyeballs. It just strikes me as damn strange...)
3: "Ah, but he wasn't enjoying a simple pleasure, was he? He was, rather, boasting about a simple pleasure in a forum dedicated not to him, abusing the word "synchronicity", then doubling down on that in a subsequent comment. But did you know that Jeff S. knows Dave Sim personally?"
Okay, in steps:
"Ah, but he wasn't enjoying a simple pleasure, was he?"
Yes, yes he was.
"He was, rather, boasting about a simple pleasure in a forum dedicated not to him,"
Technically, the guy who this forum is dedicated to (well, one of 'em,) brought it up. So Jeff responding, is perfectly alright.
"abusing the word "synchronicity","
Yes, Jeff misused a word. I'm pretty sure it's because he's a human...
"then doubling down on that in a subsequent comment."
Um...Jeff never mentioned "synchronicity" after his first comment. So...what the crap are you talking about?
I don't know what your problem with...well, pretty much everybody around here is Damian, but damn man...
You really should get off your high horse. (It's a safety hazard.)
Matt Dow
American Heritage College dictionary, my go-to (unless I'm proofing Dave, in which case it's the OED):
"synchronicity: (2). Coincidence of events that seem to be meaningfully related, conceived in Jungian theory as an explanatory principle on the same order as causality."
Events may happen which have synchronicity, according to the dictionary, without *actually* happening simultaneously. As the great sage, Yogi Berra, once said, "Ya could look it up!"
And, Matt?
Thanks for defending me!
Damian? Where's your rock? It's morning. Aaaaand, that's me stepping down (Ugh, ah, geez, really?) off of *my* high horse.
It took me a while (sorry, Matt), but, "is giving cannabis to an equine legal where you live?" made me laugh and laugh and laugh!
High horse, indeed!!!
And, yes, when D. attacks me, it upsets me so much that I usually go outside and fire up a blunt, and then a spliff, and then "a big ol' fat one", and then wait for my mare to get hungry and come back in.
NOT!!!
But, hey, D., thanks for playin' along.
And, Fake Name? Thank you for your courtesy and support! Seriously, folks, if you get a shoutout from Dave on or near your birthday, if you're a fan (reader, supporter, whatever), you should let people know. Dave is one of the nicest, most polite, and generous persons you would ever want to know.
Even, I say, even when you're not the same. I am speaking about, of course, the last 30 years or so. But, anyone who denigrates Dave nowadays doesn't know Dave.
Thus, it's just best to ignore, delete, the trolls who pop up here from time to time.
Part 1
Peace. Jeff, thank you for posting your conversation with Dave, and Dave thanks for talking with him. Jeff, I am sorry for saying before or anywhere that I did not think that you would ask Dave any of the things I told you. I am sorry for telling Dave in my last letter to him mailed two Mondays ago, anything in relation to that that I have gotten wrong about you in regards to how I think that you like Dave and Cerebus, but not God, Jesus, or Dave's views on God and such. I will call Dave tonight or tomorrow when I can use someone's phone here and say the same, and will also add that to my letter being mailed to him tomorrow. Your talk to him was very helpful to me, and I thank Dave and you for the things said about me and how God used me in his life.
As for the Kingdom Interlinear I sent Dave, as I have said before, I rejoice that Dave loves God's word, but I regret that he uses it to more so believe how he does about YHWH and the two Jesuses, but as for how Dave believes, I have told him since then and I am telling you and everyone else, that I understand what Dave believes and wants, and I am not writing to him regularly to try and force him to capitulate to my thinking, but I do think that my thinking of Jesus and his kingdom is right, and I pray and have faith that Dave will come to his own understanding of Christ, but when I write Dave once a week, I am replying on his views of God, Cerebus, and such and how I think it relates to me. I am not saying that is what Dave, Cerebus, or such is, but I am saying that is how I personally relate it to Jesus for my life, and as Dave has recently written back to me in his first new reply back to me about my first new letter to him in some time, saying that he always likes hearing from me even if he pretty much does not agree with my thinking on God or such, I also enjoy hearing back from him and have faith our friendship will continue to grow in Christ as God is edified. Dave has always been very nice to me and others, and has always been straight forward with us in his thoughts in sharing them.
As to my long letters to Dave, you, David Birdsong and such, thank you for that being talked about too. I know that I write long letters, and all of you and others have helped me to recently only now in the future write five page letters or less to people (I mean five sheets of paper.), and Dave should start getting his after the one sent tomorrow, which was the last of the long letters written in advance. I agree with Dave's thoughts that David does not have to feel like he has to reply back to me because I sent him a letter c/o Dave. I have since gotten David's address from himself. I also agree that Dave, you, and David and such do not have to reply back to me if they do not want to, and that will not bother me at all, and if that is so, all anyone has to do is please reply back to me saying so, and I will understand and still love them.
Part 2
David has said he is OK with doing the art on a Cerebus story with me for CIH? if Dave is OK with it, or on our own for a solo issue, which he said Dave is OK with for anyone. But, if David does not want to do that, I am happy either way and still like him and the rest of you, but either way, I do hope that he writes back to me at some point when time is available to him, and lets me know and I have before sent him a SASE asking him to let me know what his plans are. Thanks David. Even if he does not, David, Dave, you, and others and your works have already helped me come up with future ideas for things, because David and Dave have already nicely replied back to me in the past, and David is a Christian and Dave believes in God, which I love and serve, and David loves Dave and me too.
Thanks for showing me that I messed up on who started the petition that Cerebus signed. I see your and Dave's thinking that a lot of my thinking is wrong and such. Thanks too for saying that I got the Strange Death of Alex Raymond wrong. I am sorry about those things. Concerning you replying back to people or me, I am OK with whatever you do, but you have gotten back to me by talking about me with Dave in your conversation and thanks. I do though think you have taken the responsibility to reply back to such people, with you doing AMOC, and I liked Dave's idea about sending me a yellow highlighted reply that would point out my mistakes, which would help me, while not responding to one at all would not help them. As for when one has time to do such things, I agree with Dave and I am not asking for anyone to put me over that or God. I understand that all of you are busy and have lives and such.
I agree with Dave's statement that in a certain kind of way I kind of had it right what his petition is about, when he said that it is not about how one must or must not sign it, but about making a choice good or bad. Yes, I agree with the petition and that it is simply saying Dave does not hate women. I always made that clear I think and apologize if I did not. I was also saying though, that I think that others and yourself have made it into a petition that one must or must not sign, and are ignoring that Dave basis his thoughts on it as a God thing.
When you before implied to us that you were about to give up on Dave or such and not talk to him if he wrote for Mr. Sciver, I think that is bad because you made Mr. Sciver not signing the petition seem bad, and you and others hurt Dave having a chance to share his views of God with others. I think that kind of attitude made the 13 year old girl story more than it would have been, and that made Mr. Sciver change his mind and take Dave off the project. If you would have let it go, I think that would have been the better decision. I agree though that Dave faced it the right way and answered every question regarding it, which also stopped in future questioning of Dave's character regarding it.
I am also against how you keep allowing people like Damian Llyod to hurt Dave and others by not removing him from this site. You love much gossip and that is what you do on such sites like Comics Gate or such, and that is being against God and Dave and not for him. Please feel free to share all of these things with Dave and others if you want. I know you love Dave and Cerebus very much Matt, but I am saying by your gossip and such you are almost as much an enemy of Dave as much as I consider Gerhard, Brian Coppola, and Carson Grubaugh now to be, by what I call being in secret, but wide open in how you do so. If you change these things, then you will do what Jesus wants you to do.
As for your talk with Dave, I have told each of you that I do not use social media and would not see it, and it is only by God nudging me to check here and see it, or I would have not known any of this. If I have missed anything else or such, please let me know and I will answer it. Thanks.
Weed is legal in my country, but I don't know about the wisdom of giving it to animals. I don't think that they can give informed consent. Would it have adverse effects on them?
David J.: Didn't you say a while ago that you were going away?
-- Damian
Okay. Um...my take on David Johnson's two posts:
a) He is THE king of run-on sentences;
2) He thinks, errantly, that I am the moderator here at AMOC;
C) I think he may be from Africa, based on his "speech" patterns, not that that matters;
And, well, Matt? You wanna take this one?
Whoa! Hold the phone! Is it true David Birdsong is going to do some kind of Cerebus story with David Johnson or something? Who is this guy? I mean I listened to the six part phone message, but I don't recall hearing of him anywhere before. But hey, three Dave's! Dave, David, and David. The trinity Damian. It should be quite the spectacle.
Seriously, any chance it will include Birdsong's unused Cerebus art used elsewhere on here? That's some interesting stuff. What did he call it? The Cerebus In Hell? prequel, sequel, or in-between or something? Cool. Maybe you can fit Vark Wars in there somewhere. The Rise, Demiss, and Lost In Translation Of Vark Walker.
I don't think David thought you were the moderator Jeff. Dave really seems to like him, but just told him he thinks he's wrong. It has been hard at times for me to try and follow David's 2 part replys here, but he seems to be a Christian. I only recall him mentioning you some time back as if to say, "Will my fellow Christians help defend Jesus with me?" So far not anyone has done that. Only Damian has answered him the most. He's one of the most responsive people here.
Whoa! Hold on Jeff. Now I see what you mean. I think he meant well though. Matt? Any chance you can yellow highlight David's mistakes?
Hazel,
Saturday.
It was gonna be tonight, but there's only so much time in the day.
Matt
(And I'm not "yellowing", I'm actually answering. With images too.)
If you want to highlight David J.'s mistakes, you can enclose his text in tags. (Sorry; that was too easy.)
David J. was obviously very influenced by the Bible and by Star Wars, and has kind of smooshed them together in his mind into his own one-man religion. It's a bit peculiar to read. I had not thought that, as Jeff S. suggested, David J. might be from Africa. His prose reads quite like that I have encountered on Christian RWNJ forums. He sometimes adds a little valedictory giggle to Dave's own Sunday comedy routines, but maybe that's just me. It's funny the way he can't go half a (run-on) sentence without dragging his imaginary friend into it; it's like listening to a vaping vegan crossfit new parent who doesn't watch Game of Thrones.
I don't buy CiH because I find the chuckle-per-dollar ratio too low. But if David J. and David B. team up on a new Cerebus comic, I will at least look it over in the comics shop. Dave always said anyone was welcome to do their own Cerebus comic. (I'm not really a fan-fiction enthusiast; I tend to think that it's better to create your own stuff than play in somebody else's sandbox. But I know that there are people who would cut off body parts to write Batman, and who am I to deny them something they like?)
-- Damian
Oops again! My mark tags in my first paragraph (beteween "in" and "tags") seem to have disappeared. I guess the comment box accepted them as HTML; who knew?
-- Damian
Damian/Jeff,
David Johnson is from Indiana. Or, at least that's what Dave said in the last Please Hold.
Matt
Matt: Ah, missed that! Thanks.
-- D.
"Will my fellow Christians help defend Jesus with me?"
Um, WHAAAAT? To a Christian (e.g. me), Jesus is God. I am, to put it mildly, in no position to defend God.
Lord, have mercy!
Damian, I don't know if we're developing a bromance or not, but I got a good chuckle out of your line about David J., "it's like listening to a vaping vegan crossfit [sic] new parent who doesn't watch GoT."
It reminded me of the time I called Dave (back when he would call back; don't get me started) when I was on a break at my job of grading SAT essays for a company the name of which need not be mentioned. That was in the aughts, when I lived in Dallas.
Dave asked me about what it was like to read high-school SAT essays, and I thought for a moment, and then I replied, "It's like listening to Japanese fusion jazz."
Dave and I have laughed about a lot of things over the years, but that was definitely the biggest laugh I've ever heard him emit.
So, thanks for making me laugh, D.
"...what it was like to read high-school SAT essays..."
I bet Dick Cheney would approve of forcing suspected terrorists to do that...
I'm looking forward Matt to your David Wayne Johnson Yellowed Kid Awards. He's my new spiriual William Randolph Hearst guru! "You supply the pictures and I'll supply the war." I wouldn't be too hard on the lad though.
I reread his 2 part apology, and he seems pretty honest. I would if it were me though, yellow the parts about how he thinks it's your responsibility to cater to a view point. I think you make it pretty clear, here on the comments that topics going off topic can be deleted, and right at the top of this homepage about yourself, that A Moment Of Cerebus "I Am Not Dave Sim".
I don't recall you saying that you would disown Dave if he did Blood Honey. Maybe he's also confusing Ethan Van Sciver with you, when he said you were on Comicsgate.
Like Damian said, David seems to really be influenced by God. I think David's argument has something to do, with that not being discussed here much outside of Dave doing it. But again, this isn't a church page. But, I see his point that Christians who use this site aren't helping him out much. I like you Damian for one reason because you comment on almost every post here, and at least you talked to David.
I'm beginning to look forward too now to any future Dave Sim, David Birdsong, and David Wayne Johnson production. I too think it would be funny no matter what. Maybe someone could just do a parody of this parody.
Hazel,
I'm not actually "yellow"ing anything, I'm just responding.
Matt
(Sorry to disappoint.)
Disappoint? Are you kidding? I want box row seats. When and where Matt? I thought he left here. Are you taking questions for him too? If so, I got one, or maybe you can hold it for your next Hold For Dave Sim.
One, in his email to me, David Johnson said he sent Dave a peacock feather recently, and helicopter seeds. Why?
Two, David said he told Dave about his own theory for the unified field theory in that eighteen page letter that Dave mentioned. He wouldn't give any details, but said he named it after DC Comics' Zero Hour mini series from the mid 90s. And said, it's all about how Jesus is dying right before Genesis 1:1, and on the cross at the same time. And, how Jesus and Lucifer were twins, but Jesus entered Mary's womb and Satan fell out of heaven and God's bosom.
He said Psalm 18 and 139 led him to that conclusion, along with Dave's view on Gen. 1, John 1, and the two sons of fresh oil cherubim chariot in Zechariah. Apparently, this all somehow ties in with David's Strange Strange Death of Jesus Christ suggestion for CIH? or a one shot of his own. Dave has said that CIH? is funny first, and anything else second. But, I think this would be funny!
Three, David said he thinks the cover to Action Comics #1 points to Jesus kicking Satan out of heaven, and that it ties in with the cover to Cerebus #1, and the Dark Knight returns, when Batman jumps out of his car to fight the mutant boss. My question for Dave for all of these things is, what is he talking about?
