Cerebus #102: Good Abbess Text Not Used

MARGARET LISS:
A few years ago I scanned all of Dave Sim's notebooks. He had filled 36 notebooks during the years he created the monthly Cerebus series, covering issues #20 to 300, plus the other side items -- like the Epic stories, posters and prints, convention speeches etc. A total of 3,281 notebook pages detailing his creative process. I never really got the time to study the notebooks when I had them. Just did a quick look, scanned them in and sent them back to Dave as soon as possible. So this regular column is a chance for me to look through those scans and highlight some of the more interesting pages.

Dave Sim’s twelfth notebook covers Cerebus #102 through #111 and 133 pages in that notebook were scanned. We last saw a page from it this past September in Cerebus #103 Cover.

Page #2 from this notebook is a wall of text with more than half of it crossed out:

Notebook #12, page 2
Notebook #12, page 2

The text appears, a bit modified, in Cerebus #102 page 3, aka Church & State II page 1021. Here it is along side the text from the notebook page. Note that the last two paragraphs of the text from the notebook was crossed out on the notebook:

Side by side text

On page 3 of the notebook, we get more text that appears as if it was meant for page 3 of Cerebus #102, but some of it was not used:

Notebook #12, page 3

At the bottom of the page is a thumbnail for the double page spread of page 2 and 3, but it in the finished page, the artwork is on page 2, the right side, and the text is on page 3, the left side.
