Dave Recreated the Cover to Cerebus #1 (Photos.)

Hi, Everybody!

(Ya know, Jeff Seiler was the only one to ever say something about me stealing Dr. Nick Riviera's trademark "Hi, Everybody!". Only guy. In four years. Just sayin'...)

NEW Cerebus in Hell?

Swords of Cerebus in Hell? Volume 11

And BTVRK:
Coming... soon?

Final Order Cutoff for:
Coming directly...

New Dave Sim Art!
Dave sent me:
Nice shirt...
(I think that's the original art to #1 in Dave's hands...)

Anyway, Dave recreated Cerebus #1's cover:

This is a photo of it. Click for bigger.

Here's a scan, it was in two parts, and I had to digitally assemble it into this image. If it's misaligned, remember that my name isn't Sean Robinson...

I think the logo isn't a pasted up stat:

Dave also sent me the "Drunk Cerebus" cover he did for Aaron Vogel:

And then there is this fax
I...I wonder what was in the package that Dave decided to throw it out?

ANNNNNND
Strange Death of Alex Raymond update from Carson:
I am so thrilled to hear all the reports of the books finding their way into your homes!

Another twenty to thirty copies of Strange Death were dropped off at the post office today; people I didn't have info for, people for whom I had a hard time matching addresses to screen names, etc.

If you still have not gotten an email notifying you of your book being shipped please reach out to me at clubgrubbug@gmail.com so we can clear up the last few outstanding orders.
................................................................................................................................................
We know the book is dense and will take a while to properly consume, but once you have finished reading it any and all reviews you post online at sites like Amazon and Goodreads, sharing snaps of your favorite pages on social media accounts, anything, would be MASSIVELY helpful in spreading the word and helping us rush towards a second printing. I don't know what the numbers are but last I talked to Sean about it we were not far away.
.................................................................................................................................................
On August 21st I took a copy of the misprinted book to my favorite book store, 2nd and Charles in Birmingham, Alabama. This copy was labeled - with a bookplate signed by myself and Dave - as the "Rare Misprint 2nd and Charles Surprise Edition" 1/1.
Thankfully their trade-in department took it, giving me a couple of bucks, and shelved it for some future lucky-buyer to find.

I also left a note and a "Blue Meanie" sketch on the misprinted spread.
Torie and I are HUGE 2nd and Charles addicts, and cave to a spending spree every three months or so.

We were there this last Saturday, Nov 13th, on one such spree and I was able to take this picture of the book on the shelves.
I have no idea how the book stayed there so long given how freaking gigantic it is and how gorgeous Sean's cover design is. It was so bold compared to its surroundings. BUT... I got the email I have been waiting for earlier this evening from Anthony Haddix, of Mobile, who was in Birmingham visiting family and grabbed the book just yesterday.

Turns out Anthony is a damned good artist in his own right, so make sure to follow him on Instagram

Swords of Cerebus Volume 11. So it's going past the original plan of 10 volumes.
What's the plan now? Keep going until it catches up with the monthly issues (around volume 15 or so)? Just wondering.

It's coming monthly up to volume 12, then it will slow down. Dave has plenty of extras if you missed out. Ask nicely and send him money.

BTVRK will be released next November, there's going to be a lot of ads and a lot of covers.

Our daily dose of Cerebus with a side of… masturbation advice???

Cerebus in Hell is so fucking dreary.

Those covers are so obnoxious and charmless. Why not make something interesting instead?

So... don't touch it unless urinating. Thanks, Cirin!

You know, there's a 'rub off on you' joke in there somewhere, but I don't think I'm gonna touch it...

Dave is always on thin ice when he attempts to dispense advice based on himself. His homophobia, gynophobia, and misogyny can lead him down some peculiar off-ramps from rational thought. Let us say that his experiences, opinions, and conclusions are not as universal or ironclad as he feels they are.

You know, one of my favorite issues of CIH? has to be BATVARK PENIS #1. Concerns with masculinity, impotence, and artistic license are all addressed with wit, and - believe or not - sympathy in BATVARK PENIS. That particular Cerebus #1 might have been a wee bit inscrutable to read at times, but the ending was a pleasant surprise: not so much a happy ending or even a “Happy Ending” considering the book’s title, but a much more contemplative, and satisfying, climax than a reader might originally have assumed to be possible or warranted just by looking at the cover alone.

Point being that it’s not always wise to judge a CIH? by its cover. I look forward to reading DEFECTIVE COMICS ANNUAL #1.

Speaking off DEFECTIVE COMICS ANNUAL #1: just saw this posted on Twitter FIFTEEN MINUTES AGO! Talk about ya comic book metaphysics!
