Happy Halloween! No tricks, all treats!

Hi, Everybody!

Everyone sent me stuff today:

Mondays:

Then there's these things:

Then Dave sent:
Which dovetails nicely with the email I got from the Form & Void Kickstarter:
Shipping Update #1
Greetings backers,

A couple of big things to report in today's update.

First, the printer just notified us that the Form & Void books will be ready to ship on Friday!

From there, we should receive the books in 7-10 days.

Look for another update when the books arrive and start shipping to all of you.

The second bit of news is that we are publishing the remastered and expanded Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #8. This popular 1986 issue featured Cerebus and we are currently in the process of remastering the art. Dave Sim has created 3 new covers and we are working with some cool contemporary artists to create additional variants. We're super excited about this project and will share more information as we get closer to the March 1 Kickstarter launch date.

In the meantime, we are offering a preview ashcan edition of this book on the Waverly Comics website this coming Thursday, November 3rd. This will be a 24 hour flash sale and the Ashcan will not be widely distributed or sold in stores. Even if you don't pick up the ashcan, please visit the website and join our mailing list to receive updates about the upcoming TMNT #8 Kickstarter!

It just might be the comics event of 2023!

Enjoy these images of the 3 variant Ashcan covers which include green and gold foil wraparound covers!

Thanks again for your support and Happy Halloween!
TWP
And a bit of the details for just WHAT the Ashcan is:
  • 48 page preview of the entire book
  • All of Dave's Cerebus figures will be de-screened, like the Spawn 10 ashcan.
  • There will be                                                .
And:
During the 24 hour Ashcan sale, all other Waverly Comics on the site will be 25-50% off.

I wanna go Ink, so here's what I got...

Hi, Everybody!

Just spent the morning cleaning up Desk #1 (I only have four of them...):

"And this is Cerebus related HOW?!?"

Well imaginary AMOC reader who lives rent-free in my head, there's some Cerebus stuff on there. Just look closer...

But one of the things I found was a card Margaret sent me:

And my tracing paper sketch that I did to "finish it":

And then I spent an hour or so trying to combine them and redo the finished version I already made a while ago:
It was in the "wrong" folder on my external drive...

I should do something with this...

Anyway, Dave sent stuff:

I forget where you can get James' book. Ask here.

Larry Shell will be auctioning off two Dave Originals details as I get them. (Come on, dude's gonna lose his house...) I've gotten ONE entry to win a Manly Matt Dow Matisse original. ONE. (And he was getting one anyway...) Come on people!

(Will my Matisse cover be used? Dunno. So donating to Mr. Shell might be the only way to get your hands on it...)

ANYWAY, THURSDAY NOVEMBER THIRD! You can get the Turtles #8 Ashcan (Thanks to Jesse Herndon for reminding me, and the link.)

Dave Sim's Notebooks: Cerebus / X-Men Crossover Part 2

MARGARET LISS:
A few years ago I scanned all of Dave Sim's notebooks. He had filled 36 notebooks during the years he created the monthly Cerebus series, covering issues #20 to 300, plus the other side items -- like the Epic stories, posters and prints, convention speeches etc. A total of 3,281 notebook pages detailing his creative process. I never really got the time to study the notebooks when I had them. Just did a quick look, scanned them in and sent them back to Dave as soon as possible. So this regular column is a chance for me to look through those scans and highlight some of the more interesting pages.

Last week we saw three pages from Dave Sim’s seventh notebook: pages 155, 156, and 160. Though not in that order. Those pages, some of the last ones from the seventh notebook, are Dave’s notes on the Cerebus / X-Men crossover that never came to be. Though we did see some potential artwork for it on the cover to Cerebus the Newsletter #8:

Cerebus the Newsletter #8

Last week we left off with page 156, which was in a black ink and on page 157 we have blue ink, the handwriting is a bit different, and more plot points:

Notebook #7, page 157

Along with the plot points, we get Professor Xavier talking with Scott and Wolverine. One line stood out to me:

Xavier: A pure mutation of some kind, Logan - - I can detect no human genes whatsoever.

The line that puts me off is “Cerebus cowering” as I can’t picture that happening unless Prof X is controlling Cerebus. . .

The next page in the notebook the color of the pen again changes color, as if Dave worked on it at another time:

Notebook #7, page 158

About half way down the page is this bit:

X-Men Xavier: Reminds them him of that talking duck that was supposed to have appeared out of nowhere in Cleveland a few years back.

Cyclops: A mutant, sir

Xavier: In a manner of speaking. . .Actually he’s the essence of mutation itself.

Then the next page is a few different pen colors and types, so it looks like Dave would come back to this from time to time:

Notebook #7, page 159

Looks like we finally get an explanation for aardvarks: “Cerebus is less a mutant than the recurring after effect of an omnipresent quirk in our human genetic structure.”

Well, maybe not.

Most of the page is some more discussion of the logistics and promo work for the crossover.

So, Dave didn't send me the Monday Report like normal.

But I remembered that Dave sends them to Birdsong as well, so I asked him. But before he got back to me, I sent a fax to Dave. RIGHT as I sent it Birdsong got back to me, so I quick sent Dave a fax:
Awwwwww...

Anyway, Mondays:
