Dialogue for the First Five Pages of Cerebus #36

MARGARET LISS:
A few years ago I scanned all of Dave Sim's notebooks. He had filled 36 notebooks during the years he created the monthly Cerebus series, covering issues #20 to 300, plus the other side items -- like the Epic stories, posters and prints, convention speeches etc. A total of 3,281 notebook pages detailing his creative process. I never really got the time to study the notebooks when I had them. Just did a quick look, scanned them in and sent them back to Dave as soon as possible. So this regular column is a chance for me to look through those scans and highlight some of the more interesting pages.

Last week we looked at Dave Sim’s second notebook, which covers Cerebus #27 through 37, and saw some sketches of Lord Julius. Today we have two pages that cover the dialogue from Cerebus #36 pages #1 through 5.

Notebook #2, page 164

Notebook #2, page 165

On the first page it is all dialogue except for some sketches of a bundle with something in it. Something that we don’t see until later in the issue. The dialogue on this page is pretty much word for word what is in the finished issue. The next page starts off pretty dang close, but near the bottom of the page it starts to differ.
