We Haven't Got A Boat

MARGARET LISS:
A few years ago I scanned all of Dave Sim's notebooks. He had filled 36 notebooks during the years he created the monthly Cerebus series, covering issues #20 to 300, plus the other side items -- like the Epic stories, posters and prints, convention speeches etc. A total of 3,281 notebook pages detailing his creative process. I never really got the time to study the notebooks when I had them. Just did a quick look, scanned them in and sent them back to Dave as soon as possible. So this regular column is a chance for me to look through those scans and highlight some of the more interesting pages.

Last week we saw a page from Dave Sim's 29th notebook used in the production of Cerebus. On that page Dave wrote down the slide number used for the cover of an issue of Cerebus and some notes. On the next page, he continues.

On page 210 we see that slide #61 was used for issue #258's cover:

Notebook 29, page top of page 211
Cerebus #258 cover
From the Cerebus Cover Art Treasury book Gerhard said the location is "Agawa Canyon, Ontario". And yes, the paper is ripped so part of the text is missing. At the bottom of the page is the description that went along with slide #31 that was used for issue 259's cover:

Notebook 29, page bottom of page 211
Cerebus #259 cover
For this one, Gerhard said the location was "Long Beach, British Columbia".

Ger's camera is remarkably skilled. But, I thought that Dave had said that some of the cover photos were shot by his dad, Ken.
