Say "hello" to my little lines.

Hi, Everybody!

Got a follow-up:

That's the scan.

When Dave sent the image, he also sent me:
It's large for you Turtle lovers. Click for bigger.

Which leads to Matt's Stupid Project #2:
So, somebody asked me if there was a way to get a copy of Pieces of Turtles #8.1?
Well, no. Dave did the Canadian and American editions, and they're limited editions, so a reprint isn't gonna happen...from Dave.
BUT, Dave did extend the offer to Josh Even's Cerebus and Barbarian Turtles artists to do their own copies. And I have the PDF. And an idea for a cover:

It's not finished. I'm still tweaking it, but when it's ready, I'm gonna print it out at 11x17 (hopefully with non-reproducible blue ink) and ink it.

Then I'm gonna figure out how many copies I want to sit on for the rest of my life and have Alfonso print them and get Dave to sign and number them.

It's not the first time I've "done" Dave. I did an ad in Cerebus Readers In Crisis #4:

The TEXT on my cover is what's gonna sell it, but I'm saving that for when it's finished...

Anyway:

My buddy James Windsor-Smith has a Kickstarter too. You might remember him as the guy who had a stroke or two and sent Dave a Cerebus Sketchbook full of Cerebus drawings he did AFTER the second stroke. He's looking for $2000, and he needs another $556. Help a 'brudda out.

The Kickstarter for the Cerebus #4 CAN Portfolio 6-7/78: Get your surveys in, pay if you haven't:

Hi everyone!

Wanna see what Dave sees when he sees the work in progress? All cut in half and faxed to Dave in 12 pages for proofreading. It's in black and white because that's how the faxes come in (not because Dave is color blind, excuse me, colour blind. Actually he isn't colour blind at all).

The good news is that the six pages of commentary are done and the files are in the hand of the printer. Sean Robinson will be putting the Cerebus No 4 comic book together this coming week and it will be ready to be printed. Everything else is done or has been done for a while. So now the printer will be feeling the eyes of all of Aardvark-Vanaheim's vast staff and 160 backers on him. No pressure, Alfonso.

Everyone's pledge has cleared so there are no drop outs this time and while we still await 8 responses to our survey we can see what they ordered and fulfillment can go forward. However, if we do not have an address for those 8 backers we can't send your items until you, everybody say it, fill out your survey. Only then will Kickstarter release your address to us.

But it's going and going well despite a cross-country move and a bout of insomnia and any number of technical diffculties (Adobe, we're looking at you. If you don't know Adobe, don't torture yourself, all their products are great until they aren't and your hair turns white).

If you filled out your survey you saw a question about the kind of Kickstarter campaign you would like to see. We don't have the final tally yet, but it's breaking into three camps: 1) We want it simple, 2) Surprises are fun and keep me engaged, 3) I don't care. No 1 is probably the big winner but Dave came up with an interesting compromise just today, here it is:

That's it for this time. We probably won't be updating again until we have pictures of the fulfillment in progress in a week or two. Yes, we got all the messages about the excessive emails on the last day. Emails probably do not physically impact anyone on the planet but they can drive your brain to distraction so sorry for overloading everyone on the last day. Will we do again? Maybe not.

P.S. We got a bunch of messages today from around June 24. Fortunately most were something that was already cleared up or answered. If you sent a message to us that we never answered please let us know so we can let Kickstarter know. Every little bit helps to make it all run better.

Living the Line got a new series with Carson Grubaugh  The Abolition of Man #1. It's a comic "drawn" by an AI. Sean says:

Hello everyone!

I hope this message finds you all well.

This is just a quick message to let you all know that this Friday, Carson and I were on The Gist with Mike Pesca, discussing our new series The Abolition of Man, and the technical, social, and ethical implications of the emerging AI technology.

It was a very interesting discussion, a great introduction to the topic, and a true pleasure to participate in. You can listen to our talk here!

Lastly, we just put up a teaser video for AOM#1, which you can take a look at below. This was put together by Matt Battaglia, whose OWN Living the Line book is entering the prepress stage! More on that and other future releases in the coming months.

The Abolition of Man #1 — The world's first entirely-computer generated comic book PREVIEW

The Abolition of Man #1, a special double-size 48 page introductory issue, is available to order right now from YOUR local comic store!

They also published The Strange Death of Alex Raymond, which has the website of annotations.
