BTVRK #1 will be in stores in November. David Birdsong and I were thinking about running a Kickstarter for some variants, but Dave isn't into the idea. There are some faxes below that go into detail about it.
Here are the rest of the covers. The first three I made:
David sent over this one, a parody of the "Keanu with his fists up" BRZRKR cover:
And the Virgin Variant of that cover:
This is my take on it (bullet holes still in progress):
Dave sent this fax and Matt ran it here on AMOC last week:
I replied with this:
Dave sent this back:
If you can take the time, let me know in the comments:
1) If you're interested in the BTVRK variants.
2) How many variants you'd be interested in (And which ones.)
3) If a BTVRK variant cover campaign would effect your backing of TMNT8 Remastered in January.
4)If having multiple unfulfilled campaigns at one time is an issue for you.
Next Week: More faxes?

1. No interest whatsoever in variant covers. As a matter of fact, that's a great way to NOT get money out of me and has been a turn off the past few campaigns.
2. Not interested in any variant.
3. If a variant cover campaign is launched, it would pretty much kill most interest I have in projects moving forward. When the Kickstarters first started happening, getting the extra goodies wasn't that difficult. Now, it feels like I have to go to different places at different times of day to get a set of variant covers that aren't included in the Kickstarter but are only available on the Overload site or what have you (looking at you, Spawn #10.)
4. From Dave's correspondence, it seems he's hesitant to have multiple campaigns open and I am in agreement. Get one done, ship, and start another. I want to keep being a Cerebus fan. I want to get all the neat little stuff I can. I don't want to feel like I'm being taken advantage of.
Hi Benjamin!
1- I am interested at looking at all cool covers, but probably won't get them all.
2- Even though most of the variant covers look cool, having more than 1 is more than enough for me. Especially if it's going to have $20 plus price tag on it.
3- If a BTVRK variant cover or covers is/are offered in the TNMT 8 Kickstarter, I would probably get the TMNT covers first then the BTVRK variant covers last. Priority for me will be the TMNT/Cerebus stuff. I kinda know how much im.going to spend already and will keep to.my budget.
4- Dave and everyone involved in all the Kickstarters have not let me down. BUT! it kinda sucks that all my money is laid out on multiple open campaigns and having received none. Matt's right. When shipping starts on 1 campaign, start another. It'll be more satisfying.
I don’t think the BTVRK variants are (sorry!) overall funny enough or homage-y enough to be worth doing more than one or two. I’m still trying to catch up with the variants for other issues (let alone all the regular issues, since my preferred LCS shut down last year), so I don’t “need” any more stuff to crave. “Leveraging addiction” indeed.
Also, I’m definitely more interested in shelling out (I swear that was unintentional at first lol) for TMNT 8. So BTVRK unnecessarily cuts into that.
However, as I trust all y’all, I have no problem with multiple open/unfulfilled campaigns. But don’t go overboard.
As an aside, let me chime in about Swords of CIH? I think offering a monthly $20 collection on top of the monthly single issue (which was sometimes double size/price, I think) was a mistake, although I don’t know that offering the trades bimonthly would have been any better.
I’ve never been into variants, and probably never will be. I did get both CIH Penis, and CIH XXXXX because I thought it was funny as a comment on the whole Batman Damned bullshit. I did NOT get the 2nd ptg as I thought that was going too far. I did get both variants of the $8 Defenders issue, but I’d prefer the future price just to be raised to a viable price, instead of more variants.
As you’ll note I’m no regular backer of the kickstarters, so my comments may not mean much to you, but I am eagerly awaiting more news on the tourbook. That one will probably make me cross the line into kick-starter country.
Variants will never do that for me.
1) I'm always *interested* in variants, but there's been so many lately...
2) I'd like a few if they are distinct enough. For mainstream comics, I only buy more than one variant if they're *really* good images.
3) One campaign does not affect another. I back what I want, regardless of what else I am backing.
4) I always have multiple unfulfilled campaigns, even from much bigger operations (Coffin Comics is one).
On the issue of the hardcovers, I think any series that can hold onto half of its customer base is doing pretty good. It went from 111 to 63. Twelve volumes is a nice number to stop if that's not good enough, but it was always a dodgy proposition for a small share of an already small audience. I've loved every campaign.
